General :: Nexus 7 - How To Build Latest Linux Kernel For Android Device
Mar 24, 2013
How to build latest linux kernel from off site for Android device (for example Nexus7)?
I have: AOSP source code
Android build for device (from aosp)
Downloaded kernel 3.8.4 from off site
The question is: How can I build latest kernel using all described stuff (aosp source, kernel config, latest kernel)?

I just bought a rooted Nexus One with a FRF83 build preinstalled. It's been working great but I keep getting messages about installing OTA updates but they always fail (says E: No signature (575 files) E: Verification Failed) I tried manually downloading the FRF85 and FRF91 update, copying as update.zip to my SD updating from the recovery menu but it still gives the same error. From the little info I've found online it may be an issue with the ROM but I can't tell for sure. My ultimate goal would be to go back to stock Android with the latest official Froyo build.

I like to send back a Nexus One device and I like to ask how accurate is the build in function to clean up the device. The one located at Settings->Privacy->Factory data reset.
Is this the same with the "Delete Option" located in the recovery mode?
In general what method advance user use to clean up their device and perform a hard reset?

I am trying to do some low level performance testing related to device processor cores through adb which I feel it is affected by Android background services and system stuff.
As I know that the Android boot sequence stages are as follow:
1.Execute Boot ROM code.
2.Execute the boot loader.
3.Load the Linux kernel.
4.Launch Zygote, which initializes the Dalvik VM.
5.System server which loads the Android system.
So my question is how can I interrupt this sequence to force it stop on stage 3 to load Linux kernel. This can implement my intermediary performance testings before loading again Android system.
Does Fastboot or Clockworkmod recovery can load my device to a kind of Linux kernel?

As I've heard from Google IO 2010 session, Dalvik JIT compiler just support ARM processor.Do this mean my own build of Android source on Linux X86 or Mac OS X can not support JIT compiler?Should I use some target board with ARM processor to test Dalvik JIT compiler?

Is Android is going down a dead end?
When will Google rejoin the Linux kernel community?
Is it Goodle's business model (spyware by any other name?) clashes with the ethics of the open source community?

I'm trying to set up a VPN connection between a Linux Mint 10 PC (server) and a Nexus 7 (client).
All I'm getting so far is a "Connecting" status from the Nexus 7, followed after a few seconds by a "Disconnected" one.
As it is my first attempt at setting up a VPN (both on the server and client sides) I was wondering if there was a log file generated by Android on the Nexus that would give me a clue as to where I'm going wrong.
A similar file on the server side

I would like to try cyanogen's latest build (although still not sure which one that is) but after trying to google everything I need answers to I am just getting more confused so I thought someone here could help.
I only have used sprecovery so this whole clockwork recovery is confusing. Says I need it but if I don't like cyanogens how hard is it to revert back to my adamz smoked glass that i have now with sprecovery? Don't even want to try and tackle the titanium backup thing.
Does Cyanogens come with busybox? Will I still have wifi tether and a kernel that supports it? What is this thing about having to install google apps in some special way as i read they are left out?
What I am looking for is all the cyanogen goodness (the ability to flip the phone and have screen rotate 180 degrees)with a smoked glass theme, stock theme or green theme, wifi tether(a must), moving wallpaper, overclocking and the ability to load my custom boot animations.
I like my Adamz smoked glass rom a lot but want to be able to rotate the phone and have the screen change. I have everything listed above except phone rotation now.
I have not had a single problem running Adamz rom or any issues with sprecovery. I can use these with ease so I am hoping someone can point me to an easy guide to make the change and answer a few of these questions.

I want to build AOSP from sources. Specifically on the Nexus 10.
I downloaded the proprietary binaries from the Nexus Binary Download page. [URL] .....
I followed instructions how to set up the source code and build it but i am not too sure how to correctly extract the proprietary binaries. [URL] .....
I used the self-extracting shell scripts to extract the binaries in the root of the directory i executed "repo sync" in. (in my case: WORKING_DIRECTORY)
The binaries were put to "WORKING_DIRECTORY/vendor"
My question is whether i did it correctly and whether the binaries will be included in the build when i hit "make".

Everyone probably has the exact same Build Number, but than again, maybe a couple don't. So after a search, I was not able to find a thread like this, so here it is. I just received my X10 yesterday and per Sony Support, my X10 has the current OS. So here is my info:
Firmware Version: 1.6
Baseband Version: 1.1.32
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-rel
Build Number: R2CA016

I want a pocketable android device mostly for wifi use. It can be a phone, but I would only use it with a prepaid Sim and no contract. It doesn't have to be a phone.
I also want to be able to track the latest android software without interference from the provider (currently 2.2)?
Does anything fit this bill other than the $529 Nexus one? It seems like a lot of money for a device that is about to go out of production.

If you have received the 2.1 OTA from Verizon, can you tell us your baseband version, kernel, build #, and software #.
Just to compare those to the 2.1v3 leak to see if they're the same.

I seek instructions for buiulding Android on the HTC Nexus. I have tried looking atthe OpenMoko ones, but could not find any useful guides. I have the Android SDK and Java JDK and this is it. All the guides on the Android site refer to installing Eclipse, which is for build Java apps so not a lot of use. Has anyone got some links? Please note that this is a question about building the kernel and the distribution around it. It is not about building applications for Android).
