View 9 RepliesIs there a way to store my Gmail contacts on my Droid X2, so that if I delete a contact from the phone, it makes no changes to that contact synced in Gmail?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy mom recently upgraded to a D2, and when switching phones, a Verizon rep. copied all her contacts from her old phone to her new phone. Since Android has the ability to sync Gmail contacts, I exported her phone contacts and imported them to Gmail online. The problem is that now her phone seems to be confused on what data to use (contacts physically stored onboard vs. Gmail contacts online). We have changed the view under Contacts to only show Google contacts, but that doesn't solve the problem. Since she no longer needs the contacts physically stored on her phone, how do we delete those WITHOUT deleting the Google contacts also... where are they physically stored on the phone?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI thought I understood that there was no capability to sync with Outlook via the USB cable so I imported all my contacts and my calendar to gmail and that worked fairly well. Except for contact updates being a pain.
The I discovered HTC Sync and installed that. The result was duplicate calendar entries and some, but not all, contact duplicates on the phone.
I deleted the duplicate contacts and re-sync'd so it removed those contacts from Outlook. Luckily I had just backed up my PST file so I was able to get them back.
How to delete all contacts and calender entries from the phone so I can try again.
Just bought a Desire and synced my Contacts with Outlook but result is not to my satisfaction. I want to start over again.
How do I get rid of all my Contacts (they seem to be called People in Desire-speak) in one fell swoop. I know that I can go into the list and select contacts to delete but there are over 1500 contacts there and I'm not going to spend the next 2 weeks deleting them one by one. There must be some way to select them all and then delete them.
Oh, and I don't want to do a hard reset and spend the next few hours re-entering my other data.
I use Outlook/Exchange as my primary contact database, so I only wanted to sync my DX with Exchange for contacts. However, before I was able to get to my Google account settings on the X to tell it not to sync Google contacts - it had already synced them. Now, my contacts are a mess because of the damn "linked profiles", so practically every contact has some trash from my unmanaged Google contacts. Old email addresses, dupes, mislabled phone numbers (work, home, etc.) It's ugly and frustrating, since I keep my Exchange contacts perfectly edited and managed.
My problem is that I can't figure out how to delete the Google contacts from my DX other than doing it one at a time. (Since I have over 1500 contacts, that would be a huge pain.) Is there any way I can purge these? I'm a power Gmail user, so I can't just delete the entire Google account. (Not sure that's possible anyway.)
Im having some issues with my epic 4g and i think restoring it might help, but before i do i want to know if my contacts will be deleted.
View 2 Replies View Relatedgot my BRAND NEW Galaxy S3 yesterday and so far I'm loving it. I'm having the "duplicate contacts" Android problem like a lot of others. I just couldn't seem to get it fixed no matter how much merging, joining, splitting, importing, exporting, manually deleting, etc., so I finally just deleted all my contacts. I deleted ALL OF THEM from the phone. I deleted ALL OF THEM from my gmail account. When I look at the Contacts list in my phone now, they are GONE. No more effing DUPLICATES, right? Wrong. Let's say I want to send a text to someone. I open "messaging" and start typing a name, and lo and behold, a list begins to populate with a bunch of %$#@! duplicate names. WTF do I have to do??? THIS IS A NIGHTMARE that has lost me literally DAYS worth of time trying to figure out. I have sync OFF.

I made a complete arse out of syncing my contacts and would appreciate a bit of help I use my google contacts for all my phone numbers (about 500 numbers) but i have managed to sync with my pc (old out-of-date outlook address book), which (without my meaning to) has populated the "phone" contacts on the desire as well with another 450 contacts - mostly duplicates and old numbers now i can set the view to only show google contacts but i'd prefer not having the 450 dupes there at all so finally my question - is there an easy way to delete all "phone" contacts but leaving my "google contacts" in the phone? ie not doing it individually one by one deleting. most important i want to make sure that whatever i do doesn't delete all my google contacts online mimicing any action i take on the phone
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have just bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 - very nice looking device - to replace my old and clunky Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. And I want to transfer all my phone contacts across. On my Xperia, I've got "Phone contacts", and gmail contacts. I tried to import all my phone contacts by first exporting them to a simgle file, and transferring that file to the Samsung. And now I've got this vast list containing, it seems, everybody who I've ever called or emailed, including various names who I don't recognize at all. Is there any way (maybe a specialized app) of keeping my phone contacts and gmail contacts separate? And how do I manage my vast list of contacts?

When I connected my cellphone to the internet my cellphone contacts got contaminated with all my gmail contacts. This really pisses me off.
Aside from manually going through and deleting them, how can i turn this feature off?
I don't want my contacts to be synced with Google. IIRC, this was possible in 2.x. Having upgraded to 4.0.4, I'm not able to disable Google contacts.
I'd like to:
1. Disable contact sync (this works)
2. Change all contacts from Google contacts to phone contacts
3. Add new contacts as phone contacts by default.
Using the "Accounts and Sync" settings, I'm only able to deselect "Sync Contacts", but I can't find a way to move the contacts and disable the creation of new Google contacts.
how google accounts work. I got a phone previously owned by a family member and all his contacts are still in the phone. I was wondering if it is possible to delete all the contacts on the phone but not affect his google account contacts? Also, if i reformat the phone, will this delete all his google contacts?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have contacts on my Droid with phone numbers that the same contact in Gmail do not have. Some history:
I have a Droid 3. My Accounts include my main Gmail acct, a gmail acct I hardly ever use (no contacts issues there), a pop3 account and a Touchdown-Exchange account which I dont need because Im not connected to that Exchange server any longer. Some time ago, since I wasnt on the Exchange server any more, I deleted the Touchdown account. Then I realized some or most of my Google contacts had disappeared from the phone. Thinking that this would delete the same contacts from the Gmail servers when it synced, I immediately restored the Touchdown account, restoring the lost contacts to the phone. Are these 2 issues related?
I decided to just stop using Outlook to sync via HTC sync and to just use Google. That means that I want to clear out all of the contacts that I imported from Outlook. How the heck do I do that? I know that you can disassociate an entire "account" like Google or Facebook, but I don't use Exchange. I had just manually synced all the contacts over. What do I do?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've deleted Facebook but I've still got thousands of phone numbers of Facebook users. The strange thing is these numbers are NOT in my contacts, I click "phone" and all the Facebook numbers are there.

Is it possible to delete Google Hangouts from my phone completely?
I don't use it, nor will I ever use it, so why does it have to be on my phone? I am so sick of having it pop up in Play Store reminding me to update it, when I don't even use it. I would rather it be deleted from my phone so I will never be prompted to update it again. The saddest part is they must know what a complete dud this app is as they've removed the uninstall tab on the play store page (well for me its removed and I can't uninstall it from the play store) but they remind me the needs updating ...
does any one know how to delete my all list of contacts from my htc magic i have 698 contacts and i want to delete them all
please help
So I did a factory reset after getting 2.2. I got most of my contacts back thru Facebook and Gmail syncs when I set them up at the beginning. I foolishly "Imported from SD Card" my "Phone" contacts that I exported pre-factory reset thinking it'd just add the ones I didn't have synced with Google or FB. Now I have like 2-3 of the same for each person and sadly, there is NO way to undo this that I can see... unless there is? If I delete ALL contacts, will it automatically restore the ones I sync from Google and Facebook so I can lose all the dups and trips? Any better way to handle this? I can't stand when I type a friend's name in Handcent, I see his/her name and number show up 3 times.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm on HTC tattoo, and my contacts are duplicated on the people application. This is strange, as they all say phone contacts (thus aren't sim or google contacts or anything), but on view settings, it says I have 300 or so contacts which is how many I have if they were NOT duplicated. I have tried restarting my phone. For some reason, it shows fine then when it loads fully, the duplicates are back. I also noticed that only contacts synced with Facebook seemed to be duplicated, though not all synced are duplicated. I have attempted deleting one of two of a same contact, but this resulted in the other entry being deleted too.
