General :: How To Completely Change Theme
Oct 10, 2012
I want to change my theme. However, I want to change ALL themes, so this includes everything about the phone. What I mean is:
- HomeScreen
- Settings
- Dialog Boxes / Buttons
- Messaging
- Contacts / Phone
- etc.
I have GoLauncher EX, GoSMS, GoContacts downloaded on my phone. But I've yet to find something that I can use as replacement for the Settings screen as well as how to change the Dialog boxes button colors, toggle switch colors, etc.
I'm running Xperia P on ICS.

CM10.1 or AOKP theme where the only thing that changes from stock is that the status bar icons, specifically signal, battery and wifi are white instead of Holo blue? Either that or a theme that replaces the status bar with MIUI bar icons but maintains the rest of the UI would be great as well. I tried one called HoloWhite, as well as a couple other minimalistic ones, but with those some of the icon styles changed.

Is there a difference in performance with the themes offered in BB 1.0? I've read posts of Nextheme being incredibly fast. Is it any faster than the "completely stock by google" theme that is offered?

I am trying to resolve following task: smooth change of brightness from 100% to 0%, but can't gain effect of smoothness. Want to emphasize that I am using following approach of brightness change. The recommended one.
WindowManager.LayoutParams lp = window.getAttributes();
lp.screenBrightness = floatPercent;
// 0 - 1 window.setAttributes(lp);
Well, it obviously works, but not smooth. I will describe logic. I have a thread that changes brightness:
while (isRunning()) { Thread.sleep(sleepTime);
spentTime+=sleepTime;
view.post(new Runnable() {
public void run() {
changeBrightness();
} } );
}
We have duration of brightness change, for example 10 seconds. I calculate next value of floatPercent (see code snippet above) the way, sleepTime should always be less than 50ms. So looks like it had to be smooth. But I always get not smooth transition. It relates specially the range of 0% - 5% of brightness. Smoothness is completely lost on this brightness range. What can you propose?

I'm changing the theme of an activity in onCreate using setTheme (I'm doing that even before calling super.onCreate(), as this is supposed to be more reliable).It does work in the sense that it changes the background and foreground colors. However, my layout has a few elements that use styles like textAppearanceLarge. Now Android's textAppearanceLarge internally uses the textPrimaryColor - which is still unchanged by my theme.I tried to override the primary text color in my theme, but that doesn't seem to work.

I have a Image button which doubles as a play and stop button. I need the image in the button to change when the user click on it the first time, so that it now looks like a stop button. But this won't happen till the thread completes playing the song.

SetBackground wont reflect on the view as the invalidation does not occur. Where and how should I invalidate this?

I just picked up the phone yesterday and love many things about it however I do not like the look of the UI at all, it looks very amateurish and "cheap". I know there are many themes available out there but do they work on this phone? Does it require a custom ROM? I assume it needs to be rooted to get a custom theme, right? I want something that will change the look of every screen...dial pad, text messages, menus, settings. Imam really not liking the white text on black background.

I made this for myself.It is not an approved theme.It is put together different then the others I have put out (for 2.2.2).Please check the Change log at the bottom of pics. I just booted it on 2.2.2 and am up and running fine so far.It is still in the testing faze. Do not apply this and then cry to the guys at Fission about problems.Do read the change log before applying. Its the same theme I always like with a little lighter application.It does not have a base in black out any longer. The base was taken from one of the direct 2.2.2 download themes.

I'm just trying to change my boot animation to go along with a theme i have for bugless beast 0.4...i was told to put the bootanimation.zip in the data/local folder which i did..then i used terminal to load it up and it says no such directory or something.
So to be clear i was supposed to create the local folder myself right? data is in the root, then i make the local folder inside the data? it seems i'm doing everything right but when i power on the phone i dont even have an animation..it just goes from the M symbol to the phone on.

I've had a Motorola Droid since April and I am still new to it. I want to change my icons/widgets to something like this. I think it would look better. I like how the icons are a different color and such. The dialer and internet icons are at the bottom too. Dunno if it is rooted or not. Is this just some basic widget app or something?

No idea if anyone knows or if theres any info out there as haven't been able to do so myself as yet - but hey, i'm northern and stupid so probably looking in the wrong place, An absolutely awesome user on here - Android Forums - View Profile: X10iUser - showed me how to do the rooting and offered some new fonts which i was really after. However after watching THIS. http://www.go2album.com/showAlbum/387996. i really think i wanna change the whole style of the phone - the question is, how do i do this. can it be done from a one click app root or do i need to do it "properly" Even if its just getting rid of the CRAP blue UI i will be happy as i ONLY use EMAIL and SETTINGS menu from the stock sony UI.

I have a question on how to change icons back to the theme version after an app update. So after an app updates it changes back to the stock icon. Can I just reapply the theme and get the icons back to the themed version or do I have to wait until the dev updates the theme?

I want to have a "change theme" feature in ma app. If I call setTheme() in onCreate(), there is one problem.
The moment after I launch my app, a plain white background appears for a second (because I have set light theme in the manifest). After that, the complete layout of my Activity is displayed - it is either with white or black background, according to user's theme preference.
Is there any way I can change whether white or black background appears after launch?

I'm trying to create a basic AlertDialog using an activity with a theme of Theme.Dialog.What I want is for there to be a horizontal bar between the title and the message. However, the bar is not being resized correctly. Rather than being the width of the activity, the bar is the width of the message text. This means that if the activity is being expanded by the message, then the bar will fill the whole activity, so it looks correct. However, if the message width is less than the activity width, the bar only displays above the part of the activity with the text. I've tried every single combination of "fill_parent" and "wrap_content" that I can think of, and none of those work.I've also tried using RelativeLayout and placing the bar above the message text, but that also doesn't work. If I use the RelativeLayout approach and set the bar to fill_parent, it causes the activity to expand to fill the whole screen width, which is also undesirable. Ideally, I want the text placed, the activity width computed, and the bar resized to that width (without affecting it). Is there some way to flag a view to fill the parent view but not to affect its size?

I use themes in my apps, which generally just extend android:Theme and then set a bunch of styles. I use dialogs made from layouts, but since I set the theme for the application, they have inherited all of the regular styles and no longer carry a border, etc. My question is: How do I say, "I want everything to use this theme which extends Theme, except dialogs, which should use this other theme that extends Theme.Dialog"? It seems like that's how things work by default but when you set the theme to your own, you lose the dialog theme!
