Mar 27, 2014every time I reboot or shutdown my phone one of my hot seat icons seems to disappear.Started happening more frequently after changing the standard DPI of the phone.

Jan 16, 2014I have been loosing icons on my home screen whenever I update an app that will also update the icon image. Most of them are non -google apps. If it is a google app, and the icon changes, then the old icon is updated without problem.

Oct 31, 2010I just bought my new Epic, it's my first smartphone, and I am loving it so far. I only have one small complaint. This has happened to me a good couple times now and it's slowly becoming a bit of a nuisance. I set up all my little icon shortcut thingys and all my widgets on all my different screens, getting them just the way I like them. Then if my phone is powered off and then powered back on, they will ALL be gone. The only thing that is still there are the widgets like the clock and calendar. But all my little icons disappear. Is there something I can do to keep this from happening? Is it because of the Advance Task Killer?

Sep 11, 2010I'm using Launcher pro, and at random times, I go to the home screen to see all the icons missing. The dock's still there, but yeah. Only way to fix this would be to restart Launcher Pro, after which I'll have to wait around 30 seconds to even a minute at time for everything to come back. Is there some fix to this/maybe better alternative for launcher/quicker way to get the icons back...?

General :: S4 - New To Android And Emails Disappearing
Jun 21, 2013I've just move from the Iphone 4 to the S4 and am trying to set it up. I'm failing miserably with email.
I use Virgin.net email but have it downloaded to Outlook and it is deleted from the server when I do this.
I want to access the same emails on my phone - well, those emails that have not yet been downloaded from the server. So for example, if I'm not at home and laptop is switched off (not accessing Outlook) then I can get the emails to my phone until I get home and download them to laptop. When I download them to my phone I want to leave a copy on the server for Outlook to get.
So............... I've manually set up email using pop3 settings on S4.
An email will download to my inbox on the phone...... but then when I next go in to check emails on phone those that have been downloaded just disappear?
Delete email from server is set as never in the settings. And outlook on my laptop is turned off so emails are not being downloaded there.
Why are my emails auto deleting and where re they going. How do I stop this?

I've transferred a few file by ftp from my machine (running linux debian) to the mobile. Everything seemed ok, except that after a while the file disappeared.
I've ftped to the mobile with nautilus. Do I need to "cleanly" close the ftp connection on nautilus to avoid this issue?
General :: Contacts Disappearing After Reboot On ICS?
Jul 28, 2012I've got an HTC Desire HD that's been rooted and have tried out several ROMs, the last couple have been ICS. I would like to stay with an ICS ROM but there seems to be an issue with contacts. I sync my contacts (and calendar) with Outlook via MyPhoneExplorer, Google isn't in the running here. On GB all is fine and both contacts and calendar go into a 'phone' memory. With ICS this 'phone' memory has gone and you have to sync with your gmail account locally. With ICS the calendar is fine but if I reboot the phone (it gets switched off most nights) this causes all contacts to disappear. I usually use Contapps as my contacts app but the stock People app also shows the same behaviour. Tried all the settings I can think of, and SEARCHED the forums (and further afield) so far, but still the same.
In all cases I've set up my Google account but then turned off ALL synchronisation, as I want to keep things local to my phone and PC. The calendar works fine, it's just contacts. I've checked with my gmail account online and it does NOT have copies of my contacts or calendar so it would appear that 'not syncing' is not the issue as my phone's calendar keeps it's data intact.
Also, call history doesn't seem to get deleted either but you obviously just get the phone number in each entry, with no contact details.Using the stock People app to check (though other contact apps show the same lack of contacts!). I've tried 3 different ICS ROMs and at least two have shown the problem (the 3rd may have done but that was the first I installed and may not have checked). I've seen other comments both on xda and the wider interweb that indicate that I'm not the first to see this but there doesn't seem to be a consensus on the solution, if any. how Google changed contacts operations in ICS?
Oh, I know that I "could" sync with Google, but I don't want to. I know all the arguments for and against and I'm in the "against" camp on this one so comments along the 'just sync with Google' line aren't that useful. No disrespect to those that think differently ...
General :: Media Volume Disappearing On S3 And Note 2
Mar 7, 2013I've found this annoying bug that makes the media volume go to mute and I'm unable to turn it back on unless I restart. It happens if I have headphones in and go a while without listening to music. It doesn't happen every day but the bug does rear its ugly head at least twice a week.
Having same issue with the S3 and Note 2 or any other phones? Both of them are on at&t, not rooted and have the latest OS updates on it.
General :: PowerAMP - Songs Disappearing From Playlist?
Feb 5, 2013Never happened before but i flashed a new rom and of course the playlists that i had before were still there (no data wipe needed). i added some songs to the end of my gym playlist and alls fine. every day i need to re-add all the songs though. if i check around mid day, then some of the songs are disappearing and by the eve - the play list is back as it was when i flashed the rom. the songs themselves are still on my SD card though

General :: Exchange 2007 / Activesync / Disappearing Emails?
Jul 5, 2012Interesting problem that I seem to have had out of the box (and which has started when I traded my old treo in for this android device): emails regularly disappear both from my Note, the exchange server and thus everywhere else as well, without any intervention on my part. My Note notifies me of new email, I glance at the overview, and sometimes no more than a few minutes later, that new email is completely gone.
Another interesting feature that popped up during testing is that emails sent from the device to this very account do appear in the sent items list both on the device and on the exchange server, but *only* at the inbox on the android device. And as with some of the regular incoming emails, these too disappear. As external emails (i.e. sent from for example gmail) thus far seem to stick, I am suspecting an issue with either activesync itself or exchange and activesync, but I can't be sure.
Noticed a few other threads both here and elsewhere about disappearing emails, but most (if not all) of these seem to be about POP3 where part of the default routine is of course deleting from the server. apps at issue:
- Android 2.3.6 and 4.0 (problem stayed after the upgrade)
- Default mail client on both versions (this particular exchange account has thus far proven a bit troublesome to configure with for example k-9 and touchdown)
- Exchange Server 2007 server / activesync

May 27, 2012I have a Samsung nexus 1 and every time I go into Google chat (I have never logged out) there is less and less history...right now this is the only way I can go online. Wondering why this is happening! Is my chat history saved in my Gmail? (Haven't been able to check yet)

May 13, 2012I used to use two Gmail accounts and had both sync the information, with exception to one's contact list since it was empty. However, I've noticed that my contacts, after awhile, disappear from my phone.
At first, they had disappeared from my Google Contacts as well, but a simple restore fixed that and now they are still there (this was around the time Google started to move info to Google+). Now, the contacts disappear from my phone, leaving me with it saying "No contacts", until I reboot my phone again (where it all loads back in again).
I use WhatsApp, ChatOn, Skype, Google+, and Facebook apps.
General :: Droid RAZR MAXX Background And Notification Bar Disappearing
Jun 17, 2013my Droid RAZR MAXX (4.1.2, not rooted) .So basically, whenever I have a notification in the notification bar (be it from the SMS app, WhatsApp, etc.) and I go to slide it down, the bar at the top disappears and then the background (the apps and widgets remain in place) goes to black for a few seconds then returns to the normal background repeatedly for several minutes. This keeps happening until finally the notification bar returns and the background returns to normal. While all of this happens, I cannot open any app. Upon selecting an app, it simply crashes right away. Doesn't matter which app it is. They all crash.
I should note that the exact same thing happens when I long-press the home button to bring up the running apps.
There have only been a few occasions where everything worked properly in the past few days. That is, I long-pressed the home button or dragged down the notification bar without any issues. I am not eligibile for a new phone upgrade until March 2014 so I am kind of stuck with this phone for now.

Mainly the email and browser. How do I turn off or at least severly limit the data that goes to and from my phone. I do not have wireless and am just a bit paranoid about going over my data limit. I got the phone from work and this is my first smartphone so I am a bit nervous about anything I do on it.

I looked up her Google Contacts [URL] and there is no "Starred in Android" group, as it should be. I think it should be automatically created when she fovorites a contac in her phone. But instead, it deletes the starring of the contacts in the phone each time it syncs.

Aug 23, 2013I am a new user of android phones, having previously used iPhones. I got this phone from someone, so there were some apps installed. Thinking uninstalling was as simple as deleting the icon on the menu, I did just that, only to realise the apps are still installed (when I went into my installed apps to check the list). I have also encountered some incidents where I have installed an app but the icon does not appear in my menu, or has disappeared somehow. How can I get these icons back? I understand I can uninstall and reinstall but is there an alternative?

Feb 16, 2012I somehow ended up with as many as three icons on my tablet screen (a TF-201) for one application.
I uninstalled the application using the app manager and that leaves 2 non-working icons on the screen. If I click either I see a pop-up message telling me the application is not installed. The app manager no longer includes the deleted app.

It's awesome, but I have a problem with the icons, especifically the VIDEO icon, I move it to one place, and after I download an app or move another icon it moves itself to the last page of icons. This happens like twice a day. I also have a folder with 27 icons, did a battery pull and the folder was empty and all the icons where roaming different pages.
