General :: Google Speech Recognizer From Jelly Bean To ICS
Jun 29, 2012
has "Google Speech Recogniser" built in so vocal commands are completely offline. Is it due to an apk in this new s.o.?
Can we port that apk in 4.0.3. ?
I hate s-voice beacause my internet connection is not so good... and so it calls wrong people or simply it doesn't work... so I must use Cyberon. But if s-voice could be offline... maybe it would be better...

I am developing an app that uses the speech recognizer but I only want the speech recognizer to listen for speech for x number of seconds regardless of when the last speech input was or was not recognized. I looked through the speech recognizer documentation and I didn't see parameter to set the exact time the speech recognizer runs for. How I could accomplish this?

I have an issue with Tal kto Me on the Milestone (EU Droid) where it continuslly says:
"It seems that speech recognizer is not available on your android device. You can still use the application by typing your text in the first text box and then press Translate."
I have downloaded all the text to speech packs I can think that would be relevant, namely:
SpeechSynthesis Data Installer
Text-To-Speech Extended
...and yet it still doesn't work.

Is it possible to use Google Now in English, without changing the phone language?
I know it works with other languages, but then it gives only search results and it doesn't 'talk back' like in English...
Also will Google Now support other languages to 'talk back' in the future?

I'm aware that by default, we cannot access the Google Voice Search used in Google Now by using a bluetooth headset and that it instead uses the old Voice Dialer. In my opinion, the Voice Dialer is horrible is recognizing names and commands.
It would be amazing if when we pressed the button on our bluetooth headsets, it would use the Voice Search/Google Now so we could dial, send a text, check weather, sports scores, and all the other great things Google Voice Search in Jelly Bean has brought us.
Are there any developers out there that can make that possible in their ROM? Is there any way that we can make this work at all?

On my Droid X, I was able to add my CSUF (@csu.fullerton.edu) email by the following process: 1. Add existing Google account, 2. Menu button -> Browser sign-in, 3. Enter my email address and then select a Google Apps link near the bottom of the page, 4. sign in with my school info, 5. ta-dah! The problem I'm having is that I don't see a similar Google Apps link in the Jelly Bean version from step 3. I've tried a variety of combinations of signing in, without it, but I end up with failure every time. I was just receiving school emails today, on my previous phone, so I'm pretty darn sure it's just an issue with the new setup system.
I'm aware that I can set it all up through the other Email app, but I really prefer having it through Gmail.
I have now successfully added my CSUF email as an existing Google account, by following these steps...
1. Add Existing Google account
2. Don't enter any info, as one normally would to register a gmail account, and instead press the Menu button and select Browser sign-in.
3. On the following screen, enter the email only and press sign in.
4. For me, here it took me to the CSUF sign-in page and I did so.
5. I actually browsed the site a bit, from there, which leads me to believe that if your sign-in is failing by all of these other steps, the missing factor may be spending enough time signed in through the browser.
6. I pushed the back button until I was greeted with the "Signing In" message.
I've done this before, and it only exited me back out to where I could enter my email and password for an existing account, so as mentioned, success might be due to spending enough time signed in for the connection to register.

I own a MI-BOOK MI3 tab. I'm able to surf the internet using browser but, couldn't login into gtalk app, youtube app, googleplay app, can't signin or sync the device with google and, I tried factory reset couple of time changed modem settings, reset modem settings no chance whatsoever and also login with another gmail account which was created for this purpose. Also when I login into play.google.com browser it shows all the apps that or wiped after factory reset as "INSTALLED". What do I do? Also how can I upgrade to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean? I followed your tutorial and gained root access to my tab.
Also if I factory reset again will the root feature enable will be gone? Do I have to root again after one more factory reset if done? What about Android 4.2 Jelly Bean upgrade? Can I root again using same method if I get it to upgrade? Can I change the [url]... settings showing apps as installed even though they were lost after factory reset? If I upgrade to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and do another factory reset will it reset to new installed Android 4.2 Jelly Bean or will it go back to earlier version of Android? What will happen to apps that came with tab by default? Will the apps that came with the tab be lost after upgrade?

I'm currently using a Nexus 7 (2012 model) running Android Jelly Bean 4.3. I've been having a strange issue where the Google Play app keeps saying there is no connection. This has also occurred in the Youtube app. I have tried changing my time manually, rebooting my device, and uninstalling updates, to no avail. I am currently unlocked and rooted, and using TWRP as my recovery.

I heard that I have to root the device, and then find a ROM for stock Jelly Bean to load onto the device?

Currently when you tell Google Now to call a contact, it will first pop up a picture of the contact and then prompt you to press the call button to execute the call. Is there a way to get Google Now to just call the contact without the prompt?

I currently use GTasks and it works well. I've looked into Wunderlist, RTM, Any.Do and a host of others.

I haven't seen anything about the privacy implication for me as the recipient of the picture.I do not have a Google+ account. I have sync turned off for contacts because I think that Google has proven themselves too untrustworthy to have that information.
The only way I can see that the pictures get into my contacts is that on each incoming call the phone app takes the phone number in the incoming caller ID and queries Google to see if a picture is available. In the process, this gives Google a complete list of everyone calling me, an unacceptable privacy violation as far as I'm concerned.
Is there a way to disable it so that my incoming calls are not leaked to Google?

I have a G2 running stock 4.2.2, I have had intermittent problems with Google Services eating up battery. Until a couple of weeks ago turning of network location seemed to fix the issue but now even with network location turned off Google Services are constantly shown as eating 40-50% battery in the general settings. I have not changed any settings or installed any new apps.

I get a message saying "Google Maps does not have permission to use your location". I try and follow the directions under "help". No luck.
HTC location information is turned on as is Google location information. I have had the phone for a few months but never used anything requiring location (my cars have navigation, I don't really need it on my phone).
Phone is HTC One, the phones OS and all the Google software has been updated. The location on the start screen has never been accurate (I leave my home in town X, arrive in city Y, phone still shows town X as my location until some period of time elapses. This is generally a non issue, because I know where I am) .

So the recent update for Google Now introduced the new feature that gives you cards when a "website" updates, much like RSS. Trouble is, I can't find where to activate this, change settings, or specify what websites to watch etc, I can only find news reports of such a feature. Or is this only for 4.4 KK?

Best way I could describe it. On ICS the dialer would allow me to type a number and come back to it later, now when I multi-task the number disappears. I am running 4.1.2 on a HTC Desire 300, and the dialer is stock to the best of my knowledge.
