General :: Change Phone Model Number
Oct 8, 2013when the Optimus V came out, I found a thread either on here or XDA about how to change the model number to think it was a different phone. I did this to allow for the usage of Netflix, and I think I may have changed it to a Nexus model..
My current phone, the Optimus F7, is rooted and running stock Android 4.1.2 JB. (I rooted in order to allow for uninhibited tethering from my carrier.)I have browsed here, XDA, and countless pages on Bing and Google... yet I have found nothing about doing this... to any phone.My only desire (not the phone) is to make my F7 think it's - at least - a Galaxy S3. Many of my friends, coworkers and family have the S3 and I figure out things and solve problems on their phones, yet I find nothing on my own, so I simply wanted to turn it into an S3.
I am aware that I could simply get an S3, but I have had horrid luck with Samsung devices (not software) in the past, but have had wonderful luck with LG devices.

Oct 19, 2010My contract with T-Mobile UK is up for renewal & i think its time to upgrade from my beloved G1 to something else, Question is, What to? Over the past few months i have been looking at many different phone's and i have no idea what to go for. Basically I'm after the following from my phone:
*Android 2.1/2.2 Based device
*Physical Keyboard
*Vanilla/Stock Android (No UI)
*Better Battery Life then my G1. The phones I've been looking at are the Motorola Milestone, Milestone 2 & the HTC Desire Z/T-Mobile G2. The only thing with all all of them is they all feature a new UI (Either MotoBlur or Sense) which I'm not after. I thought i had solved all my problems with the T-Mobile G2 (the Desire Z but with just Stock Android) until I found out its for the US only. Is there any other models that anyone can recommend or am I just going have to put up with not having Stock/Vanilla Android?

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: Other Downsides To Getting AT&T Phone Over Import / Unlocked Model?
Aug 30, 2010After three years of iPhones, I'm all set with that ecosystem and I want to move on the Android. I followed the Rachel UI since it was demoed last fall and have had an interest every since. Now that the phone is finally in the US I have a couple of questions:
1. Why is AT&T's No Commitment Pricing $349.99 while Sony Style's is $499.99? Neither price involves a new contract or extension.
2. I've read something about Android devices on AT&T being limited in terms of apps. Does that mean I can only install apps from the Marketplace? If that's the case, is it that big of a deal? I've never felt the need to jailbreak my iPhone, for what that's worth.
3. Other there any other downsides to getting the AT&T phone over a import/unlocked model?
4. Anything else an iOS convert should know?
I've poked around on these (and other) forums but couldn't really find black and white answers to my questions.
General :: Wrong Model Bootloader Installed
Mar 7, 2014I just picked up a refurbished AT&T Galaxy S3 (i747) and it appears to have the T-Mobile (T999) bootloader for some reason.Putting a T-Mobile sim in registers on the network and for some reason I get H+, which I didn't think was possible with the I747 AT&T model. Don't have an AT&T sim to test with at the moment.I've tried flashing the I747 4.1.2 bootloader but I get different error messages depending on which recovery I use to flash it.
My primary concern right now is how can I fix this boot loader issue so I can get a more recent rom like AOKP 4.4 on it?

Jun 11, 2014I used the recovery mode first time - it worked, second time playing with NoBloat - it gets stuck in boot screen.I can go to the recovery mode menu, both chinese and english, can do a full clear cache, data, format, but phone still won't boot.
I can use ADB shell, but Smart phone flash tool does not recognize phone, MTK droid tool recognizes it, but I can't backup it.

General :: Downloading ROM To Flash / Update Directly To Phone?
Feb 28, 2014I've recently been getting into more security cautious habits with encryption and what not, due to this whole NSA/Big-brother is watching business... But I have a question (more may pop up as this discussion goes on).I am still getting a hang of all this encryption business. If I go ahead and do a full phone encryption with my GN2 where will I stand as far as backups to Dropbox/Copy/Google Drive/etc.?
I currently have photos and such backing up to copy, and I often move backups made through recovery to Dropbox and such. If I were to have photos automatically sync to copy or move system backups to dropbox wouldn't that render them basically useless as I am assuming they move out of the phone encrypted (not being decrypted as they exit).
The photos would be unusable anywhere besides my phone right? So moving them off my phone to share vacation photos for instance would be impossible, and if my phone were to crash they'd be irretrievable? Making the backup process pointless.
Wouldn't the back up be rendered useless as well, exactly when I might need said backup? If my phone were to ever crash or die for some reason, I would lose the encryption key, would even be able to do a full system restore through the recovery? It would seem that the encryption key wouldn't be kept with those back up files, so while it might place everything back in its correct place, it would still be unreadable. Or does it maybe keep the key in system files somewhere so that a full backup would restore the key as well?
I am also under the impression that I would not be able to flash through custom recovery either as the internal SD would be inaccessible from the recovery being it doesn't have the encryption key. I am currently running OmniROM and it is in a nightly stage still for my phone. I wouldn't be able to update nightly would I? I am assuming since it basically flashes/overwrites system each time, that I would be losing my encryption key and making everything besides system unusable then right?
And what about downloading ROMs to flash/update directly to my phone? As I download them from in browser or another app and they go to the default /downloads folder they would be encrypted. They wouldn't be accessible from there in recovery, but if I were to try and move them out of internal SD to the external SD they would retain encryption and still be inaccessible? So the only way to download ROMs and updates would be from PC and only move them to the external SD?
