General :: File Manager With Widget Support?
Jan 29, 2012
Any file manager app that also has widget functionality? There are a few folders on my SD Card that I occasionally need to access (I currently use Root Explorer for this), which have various types of files in them. I would like to place a widget on one of my home screens so that I can directly have the file manager open up to a desired folder location.

Let's say you don't have internet access at the moment. Let's say all you have is fresh install of CyanogenMod 9, which for some reason, does not come with a File Manager :
Let's say you have an apk file on your SD card. How would you install the apk file? Terminal emulator, using which commands or another way?
By the way, ASTRO File Manager vs. ES File Explorer, which one and why?

How come this is the only file manager on the market (that I've found... I went through quite a few) that can open an HTML file from your SD card? I was a loyal user of Estrogen until I found that it couldn't.

Is there anything the Dalvik VM supports (in terms of bytecode) which is not used currently because the .class files don't have it?
As an example, if people would write their own Source-to-DX converter for their functional language XYZ, would they be able to implement e. g. full tail calls although the .class file does support tail calls only under certain circumstances?

Music101 question: Im new to Android and I have a CLIQ.
I just copyied music files from my Windows-based pc the they all copied with no problem. The issue is when I go to play the music I have to force close the app repeatedly then I get an error message saying "sorry player does not support this type of audio file".
Is there an app available to convert files or did I mess up the path in someway that the songs, all mp3's btw, just aren't being located properly?

I'm writing a bitmap editor. Each document consists of about 3 bitmap layers and documents are, at the moment, saved as a custom file with a .bme extension. These files can be converted to standard jpg/png files by rendering each bitmap on top of one bitmap and saving the latter. I need some way for the user to be able to select .bme files they've created already. Is there anything in Android that can make this easier for me? The only option I can see is to write an activity that creates a list view and write a list adapter that looks for .bme files on disk i.e. a copy of the standard "Media Gallery" app that works for my .bme files. The list adapter will either have to generate a thumbnail preview of the image to show to the user or I'll have to package such a preview in the .bme file when they're created. This is the only option I can think of. I thought I'd ask in case there is more Android friendly way of doing this. For example, can you add custom file support to the "Media Gallery" app?

Every time someone leaves me a voicemail on my home phone number, VOIP home phone voice mail box sends me the voicemail as a .wav file attachment. When I try to play this .wav file the phone refuses, saying "Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file".
So, I take it the .wav files cannot be played on Android phones. Has anyone found a workable and simple workaround to this yet?

So I have been hearing/reading about File Managers, and I am just not sure if this is really a necessary thing? Am relatively new to the smartphone scene, but so far am enjoying my HTC Desire immensely. What are the pro's and con's of a File Manager? As a noob, is this something I even need? My phone is not rooted.I assume a file manager is to look at the contents of the SD card and move things around, but since my phone is so smart doesn't it do this already, putting things where they should be? Maybe I misunderstand the File Manager application? How many users have a File Manager?

For instance, a real innovative one (with drag-and-drop, continuous zoom in all view, advanced multi-touch support and much more unique features) is ScaliCommander. If you have tried some file managers, which do you like most and why?

Now that I've had the phone a month I can see that I need a file manager app. Went out to the market and did a search on File Manager and a ton of them came up. Did a search here on the Forum and didn't find a whole lot about what people are using... just that they use them. So I'm wondering which one is the best.

I installed the old version of astrid via their web site as the new version's alarms and reminders will not work on my Droid Incredible (Froyo).Do I need to install a file manager such as astro to use apps installed off market? Astrid seems to be working fine without such a file manager installed. And finally, once installed astrid download is listed under my internet downloads. Is there any way to move this file or will it just remain under downloads on Internet? If I clear Internet downloads, then astrid will be gone?

I want to change the alert sounds for various events: email notification, SMS, power status, Google Talk, etc. I can change the alert sound via Settings->Sound & display->Notification ringtone, but the sound is identical for all the various notifications which seems ridiculous. Is there an app or widget which allows me to assign different notification sounds to different events?
