Looking through the Market tonight and I come across this little gem.
How come this is the only file manager on the market (that I've found... I went through quite a few) that can open an HTML file from your SD card? I was a loyal user of Estrogen until I found that it couldn't.

Let's say you have an apk file on your SD card. How would you install the apk file? Terminal emulator, using which commands or another way?
By the way, ASTRO File Manager vs. ES File Explorer, which one and why?
I am new to android and thought it would be fun to develop an app that goes out and checks woot.com. The idea I came up with is for the app to be a widget that refresh woot.com once a day and displays a picture of the item and price. If the widget is clicked on it would open the browser to woot.com. In theory this seems like it would be easy but I am having trouble figuring out where to begin.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I have been hearing/reading about File Managers, and I am just not sure if this is really a necessary thing? Am relatively new to the smartphone scene, but so far am enjoying my HTC Desire immensely. What are the pro's and con's of a File Manager? As a noob, is this something I even need? My phone is not rooted.I assume a file manager is to look at the contents of the SD card and move things around, but since my phone is so smart doesn't it do this already, putting things where they should be? Maybe I misunderstand the File Manager application? How many users have a File Manager?

Astrid seems to be working fine without such a file manager installed. And finally, once installed astrid download is listed under my internet downloads. Is there any way to move this file or will it just remain under downloads on Internet? If I clear Internet downloads, then astrid will be gone?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI was at the AT&T Store last night trying out this phone during Woot.com's woot off. I tried going to Woot.com and every time the browser shut down and kicked me to the home page. Scared me off the phone a bit. Then, by chance, I was on Woot.com's boards and found out that two other Captivate users had the same problem. Not sure what this means, but is this a problem with certain sites on the Captivate?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was wondering, is there anyway a developer can hide or exclude a certain app permissions from being seen by Android market users? And are the permissions for an app controlled or regulated by Google? Another question I have - Is there anyway to restrict PDF files from opening in the default browser? This is a problem when I am on a search engine and accidentally click a link that's a pdf file- I don't want pdf's downloaded without asking me permission atleast. And my last question, is there a way to view current extensions that are installed in the browser.? Where is androids inbuilt file manager? Does uninstalling an application completely take off everything related to that app from your phone?

I need to install a program on my phone. But I don't have a file manager, and I deleted my gmail acct so I can't access the market. Is there a way to manually install apks (maybe with the help of a computer)?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI barely ever get it to work accurately. It's easier just to jump to the contact list. I would like to use it in the car, and this is through the handset not bluetooth. Otherwise it's AWESOME. I am humbled so far, especially at the app selection.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm at a loss trying to get Astro to communicate with my Windows XP home computer. I downloaded the SMB module for my MotoDroid, but am not really clear on how to configure my Windows Networking settings and what exactly needs to be entered in Astro's configuration settings. Is there a guide on how to do this on the web?.. if so, I haven't been able to find it.
View 24 Replies View RelatedJust downloaded a file manager (two, actually - deciding which one I like best), but in accessing my SD card, I notices a bunch of folders with nothing in them. I'm wondering if this is possibly due to when I switched from my Motorola Droid, they allowed me to take that 16 gb card and put it in my Eris since I had some downloads and photos on it (and, yes, I had to buy a replacement 16 gb card for the Droid, so now I have an extra 8 gig card just laying around doing nothing). So I was wondering, does anyone else have these files? Are they safe to delete? Should I delete them or just leave them? Here is the "tree." I've indented sub folders five spaces and put in parenthesis if the folder/subfolder contains any files/info.

One is 6KB, the other 163KB.) - When I play the .wav files, they give me "directions." I think it's to a place when I went when I had my Droid, but I don't remember and I certainly don't remember saving the location.

My lil brother has a Samsung epic and it has a built in task killer. I was wondering do I need one for my HTC Evo. If I search google and then go back to home page google is still running in the background right? I saw somewhere that the astro file manager has a built in task killer.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI've been messing around with my Droid and I stumbled upon the Files app which lets you add a server. Is this for FTP servers or like a local computer connected to Wi-Fi? I have an FTP server I'd like to connect but it says it cannot be reached, even though I'm 100% sure the details are correct.
And another thing: what is the best File Manager/Explorer app? I found like a dozen of them and honestly, I don't feel like installing them all to find out which one is the best.
