HTC Incredible :: WAV File Player - Player Does Not Support This Type Of Audio File
May 19, 2010
Every time someone leaves me a voicemail on my home phone number, VOIP home phone voice mail box sends me the voicemail as a .wav file attachment. When I try to play this .wav file the phone refuses, saying "Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file".
So, I take it the .wav files cannot be played on Android phones. Has anyone found a workable and simple workaround to this yet?

Has anyone else had this issue while trying to play MP3's through the Music player? I downloaded this album the other day (legally of course), the first track plays fine but the rest of them just throw up this error.
"Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file"
The tracks play fine in media player so I'm a little stumped.

I am getting the following error when I try to play some song using the standard "Music" App: "sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file" So far I have only had this happen on .ogg files. I can play some .ogg files with no problem but other will not play. Often there is one I can play and one I can't from the same album which I ripped from my CD in the same ripping session so the encoding parameters should be the same. Another weird thing is that I sometime can succeed in playing a song by finding it in OI File Manager and selecting it there. OI File Manager opens in in the "Music" App and it plays not problem, but I cannot open it from within "Music" App!

Music101 question: Im new to Android and I have a CLIQ.
I just copyied music files from my Windows-based pc the they all copied with no problem. The issue is when I go to play the music I have to force close the app repeatedly then I get an error message saying "sorry player does not support this type of audio file".
Is there an app available to convert files or did I mess up the path in someway that the songs, all mp3's btw, just aren't being located properly?

I do have an unused Xperia X8 which would perfectly fit as an extension for my HiFi. The X8 should be plugged to the HiFi using a normal stereo jack and should provide the music to the HiFi.
The music should be stored on a network share or/and on the MicroSD card - and in some rare cases on some cloud service.
To find a player which is supporting these things is not a problem - but I do not want to get up every now and then to change music or to skip to the next track or change my playlist.We do have other Android devices lying around as well incl. a tablet So is there a way to control another Android Device which acts as a music player - from another Android device or PC to change music, to skip songs and so on ?!
If you are on PC - that is easy - you get a Web Interface for nearly every piece of software but hey - what about the android eco system - how they play together ?!

Isn't there ANY MP3 programs that have a file explorer so I can open certain songs and folders on my micro SD card? Or am I screwed till they release the Coreplayer for Android?

I am looking for a media player - to play all kind of music formats, mp3, wav, etc. Also it would be good to have a player that have a simple search through folders capability to go to navigate to phone's internal memory. The player that comes with Incredible has the capability to search through folders in the internal memory, but I don't think it plays all formats. On the other hand I see that "market" place is full of different players, but all that I downloaded only search on SD card and does not have capability to navigate to internal storage. I know one of the simplest solutions would be to put all music on SD card, but heck we have 8Gb of internal storage why not to use it?

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried this new stock music player. I found (here:MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service or Mirror:new stock music.rar in the .rar file I included 2 things;
1. A Program called system app backupper
2: Data file for System app Backupper.
In order to install the new music app you have to either push the music.apk file in the sysAppBackup folder included, or you can fallow these steps.
Warning: I am not responsible for any bricked or broken phones.
*requires root*
1. Download .rar file included in this post.
2. Unzip
3. Copy contents of the "new stock music" folder found in .rar to root of sd card so that the folder titled "sysAppBackup" and the file called com.bg.sab.apk is sitting in the root of your sd.
4. Install com.bg.sab.apk to phone. this will install system app backupper to phone.
5. Open the app you just installed. when open it will ask you if you want to be in "backup" or "restore" mode.
6. Choose "restore"
7. On the screen it will just say "music.apk" (unless you already use the app) click on that to check it.
8. Press the menu button, and than press restore.
9. Restart phone.
10. All done.
If phone goes into boot logo loop, reboot into recovery and than clear cache/dalvik cache and fix permissions! I did not make any of these app, nor know who did. I would give credit to the developers if I knew who they were.

Is there any support for avi and other media formats except mp4 and 3gpp? If there is no support may I develop a support through correct the program? Will that be too difficult ?I don't know where to put my hands into first, should I correct programs in opencore first or should I just correct programs in directory frameworks/base/include/ media . I want to have a clear mind how I can achieve my goal, I need a roadmap to guide me how to do it.
I am trying to get familiar with the SDK 1.0 now. another question, my chip is from freescale and it supports hardware codecs of mpeg4, h.263 and h.264, I don't know whether I can change the program or the architecture of mediaplayer to utilize my hardware codecs instead of software codecs provided by android opencore. I once implement an mplayer to my platform, there is problems about sync of audio and video due to the quality of my chips(CPU can support software codecs but is not fast enough to make sure sync of audio and video), So I am worried about when the android is implemented, there would also be the same problem, and for this reason, I am thinking whether I can utilize my hardware codecs for mediaplayer.

I ripped my songs off cd's using windows media player, and I was just wondering why every song now plays on a loop. If I go into the music player and select by album or by artist and hit play, it just plays the one song on a loop-never advancing. I tried "play all" but it doesn't work.What im wondering is; What is the proper way to import songs? I either dragged whole albums, or selected multiple ones from my computer and dropped them into the music folder of the eris and it still plays only one song at a time. Of course I can hit the next arrow and it advances but it never does it on its own. What am I doing wrong?

I'm using JB 1.4.2 on Razr i. There's one thing that's annoying me a lot. I've installed the SNES Emulator SuperGNES and I've found that every single file type that have no app associated is showing SuperGNES icon and associated with it. Example: .log, .db, etc. Even files that have no extension is associated with it. The same problem occur when ZArchiver is installed. I don't know if it's a bug of these two apps or Android's in general. Remembering that this associations are shown only inside Android's native file manager. It's like every "unknown MIME type file" act like being the same.

From the opencore, we can see the aac file is supported to be played back. But the aac file can not be recognized in the music player.
From "http://groups.google.com/group/android-
framework/browse_thread/thread/ed9f788504c3d35a/42d9c78a38235a19? #42d9c78a38235a19 "
And after I reading the mediascanner sourcecode I think if I want to make the AAC file can be recognized in the music player I should to add following code to mediafile.java:
public static final int FILE_TYPE_AAC = 8;
private static final int FIRST_AUDIO_FILE_TYPE = FILE_TYPE_MP3;
private static final int LAST_AUDIO_FILE_TYPE = FILE_TYPE_AAC;
addFileType("AAC", FILE_TYPE_AAC, "audio/aac");
Because the AMR file is also be handled in this way. And form
mediascanner.jave sourcecode, we can see if the aac file is only be regarded as a only aac file not the mp4 single audio. I think the mediascanner.jave should not be modified. But after I modified the mediaFile.java , then I opened the music player the aac file also cannot be seen.

We've a mpeg4 source that we would like to play in the media player. Our source is not in a file or on an rtsp server. It is hand coded to generate mpeg4 source on the fly. Imagine the data is coming from an unix pipe stream instead of rtsp or a file. How can I use that stream in media player?

Is there anything the Dalvik VM supports (in terms of bytecode) which is not used currently because the .class files don't have it?
As an example, if people would write their own Source-to-DX converter for their functional language XYZ, would they be able to implement e. g. full tail calls although the .class file does support tail calls only under certain circumstances?
