General :: Dell Streak 7 / CM9 Port - Device Fails To Boot
May 19, 2012
Here is my vold.fstab WHICH I think is the problem
dev_mount storage_internal /mnt/sdcard 7 /devices/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/mmc_host/mmc1
dev_mount external_sdcard /mnt/external_sd auto /devices/platform/sdhci-tegra.1/mmc_host/mmc2
dev_mount external_usb_disk /mnt/usb_storage auto /devices/platform/tegra-ehci
This is for a Dell Streak 7 ( a tegra 2 device) for a CM9 port.

I've recently won a Dell Streak 5, but it appears to have been shipped without the Market or Play apps - when trying to download through the Google Play site, it tells me to open the shopping bag icon on my device - unfortunately, their isn't one!
I had a Dell Streak previously (until some git stole it on a train - I will find you Mr Thief, if you're reading) so i know market is available on the device - my g-mail account even contains all the old apps i have paid for when i was last using the same device
i'm aware i can probably install non-market apps using apk files, but due to laziness i really want to avoid this.

I have update our game to be able to handle devices with rotated screens (http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2010/09/one-screen- turn-deserves-another.html#links). I used a Motorola Flipout as a reference device and that one works great. The problem is that when the update with that fix came out I started to get reports that our game had stopped working for Dell Streak.
Do anyone know if there are special problems with screen rotation related to accelerometer output on Dell Streak?
And do anyone know what Dell Streak returns on the android.view.Display.getRotation() function call?

I used a Nokia 770 for over a year, and the difference between a 3.5"-3.7" screen and the tablet's 4.1" screen is pretty glorious. Now that such a screen size is making it's way to the modern fold (first with the HTC Evo 4G, and now the hotly anticipated Motorola Droid X), I can't help but feel the humble increase isn't enough to feign serious interest over your run-of-the-mill screen size. Certainly, it's bigger, but is it enough? When the Dell Streak first showed up, I instantly knew I wanted it. 5" is the perfect gap between large screen pocket device, and 9"-10" non-pocket device.
Yet, it seems the Streak's coverage is little, even though it's already out in the United Kingdom, and showing up here stateside in under a month. Why is it? Am I beyond the fray, and am alone in thinking that 5" is perfect rather than overkill? Or are people afraid Dell might jump the shark (since this is their first phone, and is putting a lot forward)? Or am I not seeing the bigger picture here, at all?
Why are the 4" phones getting all the drolling mouths and oh-la-la's, while a 5" phone is coming in no time at all to shut down the competition?
For comparison, a little evidence before I sound like a look spouting off:
Here, even on this forum it seems evident:
Dell Mini 5 (32/265)
Motorola Droid X (126/2,940)
HTC EVO 4G (5,132/92,865)
The Droid X forum has more than ten times the post activity, even though the Dell Streak has been a tangible product for twice as long. The EVO 4G forum has well more than that, but excuses to it, since it's been available to the public for longer than the Streak has.
Google Trends: http://www.google.com/trends?q=Dell+Streak,+Motorola+Droid+X,+HTC+Evo+4G
Streak's popularity on the internet has nosedived down after it's hands-on at D8, and quickly Droid X's searches are taking it's place. Meanwhile the non-Dell phones increase in both news and search activity.

after receiving the recent update for my HTC One X (stock ROM, now Sense 5.0 and Android 4.2.2), the Notes Traveler app for my work e-mails is causing problems (it seems to lose account information regularly and notifies me of failed sync). Since it is about to be replaced soon anyway, I wanted to uninstall the app, which is not possible.
I tried to deactivate the device administrator for Lotus Notes in the system security settings. The checkbox remains checked after deactivation, although there was no error message.I tried to uninstall the app using the app management in system settings. However, the button for uninstalling is still deactivated.
When I go to device admins again and tap Lotus Notes in the list, it asks me if I want to activate it as administrator again. So here it seems as if it was removed from the admins, although the checkbox in the list is always checked. The same happens when I start Notes Traveler while Lotus Notes is seemingly not an activated administrator. I can then re-enter my password and the sync works for a while (less than 1 day) before it loses the password again and re-entering won't fix the problem unless I try removing Lotus Notes from the device admins (which causes all Traveler data to be wiped).
So it seems that the removal of Lotus Notes from device administrators does not work properly. Although I am asked for reactivation when I start the app again, the administrator is still active somewhere in the system and prevents uninstallation of the app.
I already asked HTC support but they only wrote that the system update often cannot be extracted completely and the only way to fix it was to wipe the phone. However, I never received any error message during or after the update and everything else is working perfectly well. Therefore I doubt that it is caused by a failed system update installation.

I've just started looking into porting ROMs (more specifically, ICS themes to Gingerbread), and I found a few tools that port the ROM for you. If it were really that easy, isn't it possible to port any ROM to any device?

Currently I'm trying to port several modules on a non-native android device (Beagleboard XM). I'm syncing my sources from rowboat. However, I came across this problem which had me stuck for more than a week. How do I compile modules into a .ko file? Whenever I try to compile the modules, it would be listed as .o, e.g. for a wireless driver I am working on, i would get RT2800USB.o instead of RT2800USB.ko that I need.

I have a Chinese clone of Galaxy S4 called No.1 S6 with MTK6589 Cpu and Android 4.2.1 (Odexed Rom), well, I tried to replace some system app like contacts, phone and mms with the same apps taken from the Slim bean 4.2.2 Rom for the Google Nexus 4 that has the same screen resolution.
I odexed the slim bean apks with dexopt-wrapper as explained here [URL] ...., I signed them with auto-sign software, so I put them into system/app folder with right permissions, deleting old apks first, rebooted the phone, wiped cache in recovery and when the phone booted the apk I replaced was gone, so I think there's a compatibility problem between my system apps and nexus 4 ported apps, maybe I have to take the slim bean (or other ROMS, whatever) sources and edit the apks and make them compatible with my phone...
How to port system apps from other devices with different software?

If I take the SIM out, the device will boot and give me access to contents, (obviously, phone is off).BUT if SIM is in, I cannot get past the pin input screen, and this is exactly what I want to do.
I want to be able to give the device to my son to i.e. read a pdf, but I do not want him to be making / answering calls on my SIM. Sure, I can take it out, but do not want to if I do not have to.

Sure, I can take it out, but do not want to if I do not have to. (I might lose it too!)
In other words, if no pin is entered, one must be able to use all but the phone on the device.
After all, the lock is for the SIM, not the device!

Very often I find myself needing to reset or get around someone's Windows Password, the easiest way of course is with one of many available linux boot cd's that'll edit the windows system hive. However most of the time I'm not carrying this around, I have a USB stick that can be used but I noticed earlier that while my Nexus One was plugged into the USB port on boot it is detected by my bios.
So the question is - Can the android USB interface act as a boot device? If so I assume it'd need a different partition since it's already got an OS?
(Also while I have your attention: 1) Did they ever fix the +1 area code problems with contacts?, 2) Why don't half my contacts show up in Send MMS dialogue (and others)?, 3) How do I tell if I have an SLCD or AMOLED screen cos sometimes the screen looks really crappy (dithering or off colour banding) AND FINALLY 4) can you set notification sounds differently depending on time of day (ie; I don't want a new gmail alert to wake me up at 2am.

I had made changes in S/W as suggested in post : [URL] .....
The device I am working is also having wake up lag about 2 sec.It varies from 1.2sec,0.8sec,1.8sec..etc. I implemented the new wake log to prevent the phone from deep sleep as you have mentioned. Now the time required for wake up from deep sleep is reduced to 0.8s and its quite consistent. Although I have to yet check for battery consumption during deep sleep.
However I have found that now when the phone is reset the battery consumption is more during the power up of the phone. For Ex. from 36% before power up and 24% after powerup.
Checked with another device and its only taking 3% for boot up.

I wiped inner SD, recovered image, complementary of marvin, however I am still hanging on dell logo. Inner SD is confirmed to be working (at least on the surface), because it can still transfer files with fat32 partition.
I can access recover, fastboot, everything, just no qualcomm.
I flashed DSC 2.0 and streakmod recovery, still no go. WHAT CAN POSSIBLY BE WRONG WITH MY PHONE???
I bricked my phone and wiped EVERYTHING from the INNER sd card, which in hindsight seems to be a terrible choice.
How do I repartition it to the original condition??
I also don't know how to name them, or put them in the right location
I believe when all is finished I can finally use stock recovery + rom... Right now it just gets stuck at dell logo no matter what recov/rom i flash.
