General :: Change Skype And Voip App Output Sound
Jun 7, 2012
Any app who can select output sound device ?
Like if we plug a headphone on the jack, let us choose to force audio output to external speaker ?
Actually my problem is that skype and voip app have sounds going throw external speaker and not internal speaker.

I just bought a HTC Hero yesterday and downloaded the skype application only to find out that android phones do not support VOIP and therefore no free skype-to-skype calls! Will this ever change, or is there a workaround already?

Raketu has a online program for G1's at Raketu Android - Log In BUT when I tried to use it it wants to call my phone. Is this a Call back service? Website says 1 cents to call the USA but when I tried it wants 17 cents a minute so I tried a 1 800 number and again it wants 17 cents a minute. If I am using WiFi and connected to their website in the USA and making a call in the USA why are they trying to charge 17 cents a minute? Skype STILL will not allow Vietnam users with G1's call at all. Its been a LONG TIME.Can someone make a VOIP Program that works and does what it should. That is using WiFi I should be able to make a cheap US Call!

Please do let me moan in my grief as Android (atleast HERO) has so far let me down..Issues that I have encountered so far:
1. As I press "home"-button it might crash and say "loading" with black(/transparent) background and a circle that loads ooon and ooon and ooon. For the first two days it crashed so I had to boot the entire device. In that point there was no additional apps installed
2. Exhcange capability is there but it ain't that good. Using folders (as I use with my email) is very stupid as it shows ALL the folders in one list even though many of the folders are sub folders
3. Huge lag all the time. Like when I call some number and it goes back to the "made calls"(or whatever its supposed to be called) it might take more than 5 seconds to refresh the list and after the looong wait the last made call appears on the top of the screen. Other types of lags that are really frustrating are also appearing. If you wanna know more about my bad days with it please let me know
4. Audio issues. I mean how frustrating it is to listen to music and suddenly the song just stops and start and stops and start and stops.. It is very annoing. I am no "gold ear" or anything that really can tell a difference between a good and bad sounding audio, but I guess I can tell that listening to music sucks.. Also as I listen to music with my koss spark plugs and there is a calender notice - WHAT WAS THAT?!? Damn the sound is so loud that I am afraid I will drop some heavy weights on me some day when listening to music at the gym... Other than that audio is fine.. Umm yep...
5. No MS Office edit capability.. I just cant understand why..
6. No skype or anyother EASY (dont start talking about sip for android or what ever the name is called) VOIP app. Most of the mobile platforms has app that can do this - why not android?? And yeah I have read about VOIP apps but: skype lite= no use for me, google voice= uuuuh.. Great software but why hell they wont let me register or what ever was needed to get it to work.
7. Overall Google issues.. Google docs - whats the current story? Google Voice - hopefully they can provide it at some time..
8. IM apps. I just wanna use MSN ok? how hard that can be? Every app that I have used has proven to be unreliable. Why god?u why?
9. Latest issue is with home screen.. One day suddenly calendar, favorites and media player (didnt notice others - would not be suprised if there were more..) lost their text. Meaning that my calendar, favorites and media player showed the graphics but no text. I mean how could that even happen? It was removed by rebooting.. NICE!
So heres my "short" list of things that annoy me - there might be more but I dont remember at the moment.I was really hoping this phone would substitue my old WM phone. Too many problems at the moment that I have considered destroying hero.PLEASE HEAR MY STORY! Let me have still hope that android MIGHT be a great platform for mobile phones.. And also please let me know how to fix these issues I registered just to complain - how cool is this! And hopefully some one will find joy when reading this At least some sadomasochist might enjoy when I am truly in pain

So I'm a little confused about Skype on Android. As I understand it, it's not really running Skype at all, it's just a fancy way to call their local Skype number, which you can actually do on any cell phone, right? So you still use minutes. If you make long-distance calls, you'll also use credits. If you make local-calls, I assume you don't? And do you use credit if you make Skype-to-Skype calls? What if someone Skypes you -- do you still use credit? Second, can Fring really do real voip Skype calls? Just using my wifi and no minutes? Can I see all my Skype contacts? Can they see me?

I have nimbuzz on my milestone 2.1. I am trying to make VOIP calls on my skype account through nibuzz. When using wifi it works great. When using 3g I have a weird prob.
I can receive calls fine but I when I call someone I can't hear the person answering and he/she can't hear me. It won't work even with echo sound test. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen. I tried uninstalling and re installing and all that so.

I am getting a Galaxy S end of this week or early next week. Wondering how good it will be for VOIP. I am thinking of using either Skype, Fring or Nimbuzz in the background 24x7, connected mostly over 3G but sometimes (at home and at work) over Wi-Fi. If Wi-Fi is going to drain the battery faster, then I can have it on 3G all the time. I'm more than happy if I can get one day out of it. What do you guys think? Has anyone tried it?

I just flashed my Galaxy S2 i9100 with the PureICS v6.1 ROM and almost everything is fine except one problem:
Whenever I start a skype call there is no sound, if I start a video call there is video but there is still no sound, neither party in the call can hear anything.
I was just wondering if this was a ROM specific bug which just needs to be ironed out, or something to do with skype generally misbehaving on ICS ROMs which don't belong to the Galaxy Nexus or whatnot.

my s4 recently developed a problem where both audio and microphone are disabled ( speaker, headset, earpiece.. all audio input and outputs ) during phone calls using the default 'phone' app , but works fine using vibr , Skype ect. There is no other issue with the sound everything works fine.
I have tried....
-a factory reset
-certain apps that divert sound to one output
-plugging and unplugging a headset
-contacting my service provider ... for no reason as its the phone that's at fault.
I have run out of options and am not tech savy with phones / android

I have both a Droid and a Nexus One. I have both of them set up for VoIP calls, and both are set up the same way. Here's how I set them up:
How To Set Up VoIP on the Nexus One Google Phone using Sipdroid for Free Calls | Dave's Tech Shop
How To Set Up VoIP on the Motorola Droid on Verizon Wireless using Sipdroid for Free Calls | Dave's Tech Shop
The call quality on the Nexus One is much worse than the Droid. I did repeated tests with both. And I used WiFi, so it can't be a difference between VZW and T-Mobile.
Anyone else tried VoIP on the Nexus One yet? I wonder if I have a defective phone or if this is a bigger issue.
The VoIP call quality problems are worse when using a headset on the Nexus One! VoIP quality on the Nexus One is marginal to poor without a headset, but with a headset it is unacceptable. I have tested four different headsets now. I have also tested those headsets on the Droid, and they are good. So the problem is the Nexus One, not any particular headset. My first thought was that I had a bad headset jack. However, after more trouble shooting I tend to think its not as simple as that. Music sounds fine through the headset. It is only VoIP sound that sucks when using a headset. The problem is so bad that phone calls using a headset are not workable.
Summary of Nexus One and VoIP:
* VoIP sound quality is marginal on WiFi with no headset.
* Music sound is good with headset on Nexus One.
* Headsets I'm testing with are good with VoIP and music on Droid.
* VoIP on Nexus One with a headset has poor sound quality.

Is there a way in Android to force output through the phone speaker, even if a headphone is plugged into the jack? I know there has to be a way because when you are talking on the phone, you can put someone on speaker phone, even if there is headphones plugged into the jack.

On my Incredible, all of a sudden the audio output when you are texting using the keyboard is inaudible. All the options are turned on accordingly and my sounds are up to full. I am not using a 3rd party keyboard either, im still using the Android one. I have rebooted, battery pulled and checked any updates, but still nothings.

I've recently come to the conclusion that the sound quality on the Droid Incredible is sub-par. I'm talking about the headphone output when playing music MP3's or Pandora streaming ... not call/reception quality. The sound is just not as clear, bass is very muddy, and treble is compressed.
Anyone else make these observations? Maybe it's just my phone? Fwiw, I compared the Inc against a Creative Xen Micro MP3 player and a Nu Force USB DAC on my PC. Headphones I tested were with decent Westone UM2 and Grado SR80. Most of my audio sources were electronic / trance MP3's at high bit rate, which tend to have a very full range of bass & treble.
I'm assuming this is just HTC's electronic design ... choice of DAC's, opamps, etc.

I have Wildfire with 3 network and they have installed Skype on it. But whenever I get calls from Skype I don't know who is calling since it only gives a specific number but not the name (ID) of the person. Anyone knows how can I change the settings of Skype so that instead of number the name 9ID) should appear?

I'd like to find a way to change the sound files Android uses to play back MIDI files. Ideally, I would like to be able to playback MIDI files and have them sound exactly as they do on my Windows PC.
I can only assume that this would require finding where the Android MIDI database is stored and replacing its default soundbank with the Microsoft gm.dls file. I don't know if Android uses .sf, .sf2, .dls, or some other kind of file for its bank, but I'm fairly resourceful and I'm sure I can find a suitable replacement for the stock file.
how to find this file and how to replace it. My phone is rooted and I'm fairly familiar with how ADB works.
My problem is that the stock midi is just... Just terrible. Me and my band use Guitar Pro to write up our songs and show them to each other and I would really like to to be able to show my stuff to my bandmates on the go. The problem is that it's really hard to get a picture of the song without that familiar Windows GM sound. We've been using it for so long that we can almost picture how the song will sound when we play it if we hear the Windows MIDI. We (or at least I) don't get that if we use the Android MIDI sound.

I've just upgrade my S2 from andriod 2.3ish to 4.1.2. Before doing so I changed the default system sound to that droplet sound (in the normal settings view, no root, nothing special with this phone) but now I've upgraded the 'normal' setting to change 'system sound' has gone. Have they really just scrapped that option?

Here is what I would like to do:
I have an HTC Magic and I have a couple of contacts who I frequently talk with on skype. Is there anyway to talk with them skype-to-skype on the Android phone?
The Skype Lite app does not allow calling.
I don't mind either calling using my local minutes OR using my data plan.
Are there any other applications that could assist me with this?

I have a Google Voice number local to my area code that forward to my pbxes.org account, which in turn takes the call and sends it to my phone via the SipDroid app. I can make incoming/outgoing calls all day long for free, but have a problem with call quality.
I have linked two voicemail files. I placed a call from SipDroid out to the same number in both cases, but one was done over WiFi and the other over 3G (2-3 bars, average signal). The WiFi one is acceptable, but the 3G one is not. Listen for yourself (For the message, I read one of the opening paragraphs from the US Declaration of Independence, same on both so you can compare accurately.)
Setup: Google Voice number -> pbxes.org -> SipDroid app
Wifi VOIP Voicemail: [URL] ....
3G VOIP Voicemail: [URL] .....
I am wanting to use my Google Voice number for work, as my off-hours support phone, so I do not accrue charges on my personal cell plan (not covered by employer, and they do not provide work mobile phones). So, since I am usually on the go, I will not be connected to WiFi, thus I need a reliable VOIP option that will get acceptable call quality over 3G. There are multiple options out there, and I do not have a problem with a monthly fee, but they all come with caveats. For example, if I got an "Online Number" from Skype, and just forwarded my Google Voice number to that, it would work through the Skype app, no SIP app needed; however, the Skype voicemail cannot be disabled, so I can no longer use the Google Voice app to easily see my support calls/messages from my home screen. I have use the Skype app (or website) to listen to voicemails. Skype would solve my quality problem (based on reviews of other users that use it over 3G), but introduce the new voicemail issue. The setup I have now (GV->pbxes->SipDroid) allows me to use the GV voicemail, but quality is lacking...catch 22. Is there a better more reliable solution out there for VOIP on Android?
There's also the Google Callback app, that I have been trying to avoid at all costs, since it is kind of hotkey, and I tried the GrooVe IP app, but it has a lot of echo for the person I am calling, and no setting change could fix it.
I will be updating my phone from the DroidX (3G only) to the Bionic (4G). If you think that will make a difference, and make all my concerns moot, then just say so, and that's what I'll do.
