Android :: Raketu Vs Skype & VOIP Programs

Apr 27, 2009

Raketu has a online program for G1's at Raketu Android - Log In BUT when I tried to use it it wants to call my phone. Is this a Call back service? Website says 1 cents to call the USA but when I tried it wants 17 cents a minute so I tried a 1 800 number and again it wants 17 cents a minute. If I am using WiFi and connected to their website in the USA and making a call in the USA why are they trying to charge 17 cents a minute? Skype STILL will not allow Vietnam users with G1's call at all. Its been a LONG TIME.Can someone make a VOIP Program that works and does what it should.That is using WiFi I should be able to make a cheap US Call!

Android :: No VOIP With Skype

Oct 15, 2009

I just bought a HTC Hero yesterday and downloaded the skype application only to find out that android phones do not support VOIP and therefore no free skype-to-skype calls! Will this ever change, or is there a workaround already?

Android :: Can Fring Really Do Real Voip Skype Calls?

Dec 18, 2009

So I'm a little confused about Skype on Android. As I understand it, it's not really running Skype at all, it's just a fancy way to call their local Skype number, which you can actually do on any cell phone, right? So you still use minutes. If you make long-distance calls, you'll also use credits. If you make local-calls, I assume you don't? And do you use credit if you make Skype-to-Skype calls? What if someone Skypes you -- do you still use credit? Second, can Fring really do real voip Skype calls? Just using my wifi and no minutes? Can I see all my Skype contacts? Can they see me?

Android : Trying To Make VOIP Calls On My Skype Account Through Nibuzz

Aug 18, 2010

I have nimbuzz on my milestone 2.1. I am trying to make VOIP calls on my skype account through nibuzz. When using wifi it works great. When using 3g I have a weird prob.

I can receive calls fine but I when I call someone I can't hear the person answering and he/she can't hear me. It won't work even with echo sound test. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen. I tried uninstalling and re installing and all that so.

HTC Hero :: No Skype Or Anyother EASY VOIP App

Sep 28, 2009

Please do let me moan in my grief as Android (atleast HERO) has so far let me down..Issues that I have encountered so far:

1. As I press "home"-button it might crash and say "loading" with black(/transparent) background and a circle that loads ooon and ooon and ooon. For the first two days it crashed so I had to boot the entire device. In that point there was no additional apps installed

2. Exhcange capability is there but it ain't that good. Using folders (as I use with my email) is very stupid as it shows ALL the folders in one list even though many of the folders are sub folders

3. Huge lag all the time. Like when I call some number and it goes back to the "made calls"(or whatever its supposed to be called) it might take more than 5 seconds to refresh the list and after the looong wait the last made call appears on the top of the screen. Other types of lags that are really frustrating are also appearing. If you wanna know more about my bad days with it please let me know

4. Audio issues. I mean how frustrating it is to listen to music and suddenly the song just stops and start and stops and start and stops.. It is very annoing. I am no "gold ear" or anything that really can tell a difference between a good and bad sounding audio, but I guess I can tell that listening to music sucks.. Also as I listen to music with my koss spark plugs and there is a calender notice - WHAT WAS THAT?!? Damn the sound is so loud that I am afraid I will drop some heavy weights on me some day when listening to music at the gym... Other than that audio is fine.. Umm yep...

5. No MS Office edit capability.. I just cant understand why..

6. No skype or anyother EASY (dont start talking about sip for android or what ever the name is called) VOIP app. Most of the mobile platforms has app that can do this - why not android?? And yeah I have read about VOIP apps but: skype lite= no use for me, google voice= uuuuh.. Great software but why hell they wont let me register or what ever was needed to get it to work.

7. Overall Google issues.. Google docs - whats the current story? Google Voice - hopefully they can provide it at some time..

8. IM apps. I just wanna use MSN ok? how hard that can be? Every app that I have used has proven to be unreliable. Why god?u why?

9. Latest issue is with home screen.. One day suddenly calendar, favorites and media player (didnt notice others - would not be suprised if there were more..) lost their text. Meaning that my calendar, favorites and media player showed the graphics but no text. I mean how could that even happen? It was removed by rebooting.. NICE!

So heres my "short" list of things that annoy me - there might be more but I dont remember at the moment.I was really hoping this phone would substitue my old WM phone. Too many problems at the moment that I have considered destroying hero.PLEASE HEAR MY STORY! Let me have still hope that android MIGHT be a great platform for mobile phones.. And also please let me know how to fix these issues I registered just to complain - how cool is this!And hopefully some one will find joy when reading this At least some sadomasochist might enjoy when I am truly in pain

Samsung Galaxy S : Battery Life For VOIP Skype - Fring - Nimbuzz?

Aug 2, 2010

I am getting a Galaxy S end of this week or early next week. Wondering how good it will be for VOIP. I am thinking of using either Skype, Fring or Nimbuzz in the background 24x7, connected mostly over 3G but sometimes (at home and at work) over Wi-Fi. If Wi-Fi is going to drain the battery faster, then I can have it on 3G all the time. I'm more than happy if I can get one day out of it. What do you guys think? Has anyone tried it?

Android :: App To Talk With Contects Skype-to-skype On Droid Phone?

Aug 19, 2009

Here is what I would like to do:

I have an HTC Magic and I have a couple of contacts who I frequently talk with on skype. Is there anyway to talk with them skype-to-skype on the Android phone?

The Skype Lite app does not allow calling.

I don't mind either calling using my local minutes OR using my data plan.

Are there any other applications that could assist me with this?

Android :: PBX App VOIP

Feb 2, 2010

We use a hosted PBX solution that is VOIP. There is no VOIP andoid app from our provider but there is one for the iPhone.

However, we can call through our PBX by dialing our direct dial number, passcode and dial out - end result is the same, we call clients from our PBX with our company number displayed on caller ID.

The manual process is accomplished as follows.

1 dial our personal direct dial number
2 pause pause
3 enter #
4 pause pause
5 enter our mailbox security code (4-8 numbers)
6 enter #
7 pause
8 enter *
9 pause
10 enter #
11 enter 91 (9 for outside line, 1 for US)
at this point we enter the 7 digit number and are connected

Can someone write an app or is one already written that will simply let us choose a contact to dial and have a popup as done in Google Voice

Call with Google Voice
Call without Google Voice
Call from PBX

I am thinking if you select call from pbx the app would simply dial steps 1-11 above and then enter the contact number to complete the call.

This has to be incredibly easy for guys... it would sure help us outside sales guys from dialing in through our corporate pbx's.

Android :: VOIP

Sep 4, 2010

I've been on the same phone plan for close to 17 years, same # same carrier etc. It's been a sweet deal for the most part since I'm a light user of phone time.

I pay $10 a month for 'service', I only pay .11 a minute for time talked which normally runs around 100 minutes a month. Average phone bill before getting an android phone was around $25. Well I added text for $5 and now the monthly data plan for $30. Out of the 5gb limit i used .160gb on average per month.

I've had google voice for a while so i turned off texting and now use that number for texting(which works really sweet) other than people complaining that I have a new # to text/call to.

Is there anyway to utilize the data package to use some sort of VOIP calling instead of my per minute charge? Either to reduce or eliminate the per minute charge?

Android :: True VOIP App

Feb 4, 2010

I got a mytouch 3g figuring it would handle voip like iphone and wm phones. But to my dismay, it appears there are no true VOIP apps for android that will allow me to call over wifi/3G from Germany.

I have read about sipdroid, truphone, skype lite, iscoot and others, but they all make a local call first, even to members of the same service -totally defeats the purpose. You'd be better off using a calling card!!

Anyway, just wondering if I am missing something. I got an android phone because I wanted to be part of something different, with great potential. I just didn't realize that it would be different in such a disadvantageous way...

What do others recommend using for their VoIP needs? Is there a service that already has an outgoing plan like SkypeOut? And an incoming number like SkypeIn?

Android :: Implementing VoIP Program

Nov 14, 2010

I have some design questions that I want to discuss with people interested in helping me. I am planning to develop a simple VoIP program that allows two Android phones in the same network to use VoIP. My goal is simply to capture sound, send the data with UDP, receive UDP data and play sound.My current design is to have 2 threads: one captures the microphone and sends the data; the other one receives bytes and plays them.I was starting to implement that using MediaPlayer and MediaRecorder. The issue that came up is how do I record and play sound? By that, I would like to know if I need to use a file, although that seems slow, or if there is anyway to have the recording automatically sent to my UDP socket please?Basically, I wonder if I have to record to a file, then to be able to play it, or if I could just pass a socket (for recording and playing).

Android :: True VoIP Applications That Work

I have been looking around today and am trying to find a VoIP application that will actually work.

Let's say, what if I got my phone shut off from VZW, would there be a way to make VoIP calls over wifi? I have seen posts about using Google Voice in conjunction with other programs. Also, Nimbuzz? Anyone have a positive approach they have used for this?

I will be going out of the US for a while and will be getting my VZW account inactive for a while. I am looking for a way in which I'll be able to still use my Droid Incredible to make calls to the US using wifi. I'd even be willing to make calls just to Skype friends or Nimbuzz friends. I am hoping that someone else has found a way to accomplish this.
