I was just wondering if android suffers the same browser exploits and drive by downloads that windows does. I ask because some programs such as lookout only scan apps, not the entire file system.

This is a general question that should be in everyone's mind who might want to root a phone or tablet or any Android or other mobile OS device:
Is this root exploit or bootloader going to be spyware and collect any and all data of mine (login credentials, keylog my every character, account/bank numbers, identity information, use your evil imagination)?
So, I searched this forum for key words like "trust root" "secure root" "security" and found nothing related to this topic.
So, how am I to trust ANY of the root exploits or bootloaders created and posted to this forum for ANY device?
Have any of the developers developed an audit process using firewall rules to ensure that a posted root exploit or bootloader does not attempt to keylog, report captured information to some obscure IP address (thief/hacker's machine of course)?
Do any of these root exploits or bootloaders or custom unofficial builds of entire android (like Cyanogenmod and the 3rd party variants) get Security Audited?
How am I to believe that the whole lot of you making the root exploits and bootloaders are not a big community of identity thieves and financial fraudsters?
Am I just supposed to trust you?
I used Titanium Backup to backup my apps with data and system files. How do I restore those bookmarks and saved pages?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to replace the Browser.apk with a different browser..I read up and people said just rename the new browser to browser.apk and replace it in system/app I removed the stock browser and replaced it and there's no force closes or anything just the new browser don't work..I tried replacing it with chrome btw

I have a Motorola droid (orig) that when you are web browsing there is a bar that comes up on the bottom right with +/- to adjust zoom level. Does this still exist on the Droid 2 Stock Browser?

View 12 Replies View Relatedthe Android Browser is not streaming the video, it forces it to download it first to play it in the Android Player or some other video app I have on the phone (The Daily Motion website won't even play videos, it shut plays audio). On my old iPhone, I would touch a video and it would stream through the browser, Chrome, Dolphin, Safari, etc. But with Android, it always wants me to download or try to play through an app which doesn't work or it just doesn't work. I have tried, Dolphin, Boat, Chrome, Opera, Baidu... none of them just play the video with problems. I didn't have this issue with iPhone, and it's kinda upsetting that I have such powerful hardware (Galaxy Note 3) and stuff just doesn't work like it should.I thought it was just my phone, but i tried it on my friend's HTC One and got the same results, so it must be an Android issue.

I have an HTC Inspire with Android 2.3.5. Last night my stock browser kept crashing on two particular Wikipedia pages. I cleared the cache and even went to Menu > Settings > Apps and cleared data for the browser (which also erased my bookmarks). It still crashed on those pages. Wouldn't you be surprised if you kept crashing on ordinary Wikipedia pages? No other pages crashed.
(1) I've read that anti-malware programs for Android are not very good - someone tested them and the free ones found only 10% of malware they should have found. Paid ones were slightly better. Are there any malware scanner apps that are good? I prefer ones that aren't always running.
(2) Are you supposed to update the stock browser? If so, how do you do it? It might be automatic.
(3) Do you think I should upgrade to a newer Android? When I went from 2.3.3. to 2.3.5, it took a long time and I didn't like some of the changes.

I am developing a network that will have a welcome screen right after the Wifi connection of the device. The welcome screen is an html file that is downloaded from the router. When i try this system on IOS platform a captive portal screen (pseudo browser) is launched and read the HTML file.

Open the browser and go to Bookmarks. Now you can see all the Bookmarks that you have in desktop browser in your Android Smartphone browser as well.

I already have the root explorer application installed on my viewsonic gtablet, I know there must be a way to go in and edit that information, I just don't know how to do it. With Android 4.1.1 I had a browser with 1-finger-zoom...will say, I could swipe left or right on the side of the screen to zoom in and out.
Now with 4.1.2 this feature isn't there any longer...
Any way to get this version of browser back? An app to flash or something like that?

In browser settings, under bandwidth management, "Load Images is ticked". Google displays images if I do an image search.
Turning off anti virus and firewall makes no difference.
