General :: Auto-hide Status Bar In JB
Nov 24, 2013
I've been using various ROMs (including various Xposed modules) in the past and most of them allow me to auto-hide the status bar.But whenever I swipe down from the top and the statusbar is displayed, it resizes the entire content on my phone.
What I was looking for is a statusbar that will show up above the content, like the immersive mode in KitKat but for JB so it doesn't resize my content but overlap it.
I know there are some apps that give you this kind of auto-hide status bar but it will only work in fullscreen apps, so I tried to make everything on my phone full screen (using expanded desktop) but it doesn't seem to work...

I'd like to have the following:
In Portrait mode: normal size keyboard in Landscape mode: big size keyboard, should use about 70 -80 % of the screen.
Currently I am using Hackers Keyboard, 4 Row, 70% size. There are 2 lines left to see, when typing.
Is there a way or an app so the android status bar (clock, battery, etc) is hidden when turning the phone from Portrait to Landscape so the whole screen can be used for typing?

I finally uninstalled Home ++, as bad as it killed me to do it, I couldn't tolerate the force closes and bog down any longer. My Droid is screaming fast now, but I plan on reinstalling Home++ when the issues get worked out. One of the things I liked was the way it hid the status bar. Is there any other app or option out there to hide the status on the stock home?

I am creating a WebView which is being launched from an activity named StartUpActivity.java. My intention is to hide the status bar at the top when the WebView comes to the front, so that the WebView remains full screen (no status bar). I can hide the status bar when I launch an activity using this code : getWindow().setFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN,WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN ); Is there any way to hide the status bar when using WebView?

I used the following theme to set fullscreen mode in Android 1.1, but the same code doesn't hide the Status Bar in 1.5. The Activity goes fullscreen, but the Status Bar always stays on top of it. The theme used:

Is there an app, or a zip file to flash, to where i can choose to hide certain icons from the status bar? i like to just turn my screen on to see if i have any notifications, but i hate it how i get the "more" icon, where you have to drag the status bar down, only to find out it was just an update notification.

For the sake of keeping this from going the way every other thread I've seen on the subject always goes: Yes, I am fully aware that adw launcher and launcher pro give you the option of hiding your whole statusbar. No, that is not what I am after, nor is that what this post is about. This is a question for theme developers... Is there anyone out there that knows how to hide the statusbar clock in FroYo? I've been poking around for the past two days trying to figure this one out on my own, but it's not going as smoothly as I would like it to be.
Most of what I've been reading points to the Services.jar file. (Specifically comandroidserverstatusStatusBarIcon.smali)... but any of the threads I've found mention changing the border. I can't find anything in the StatusBarIcon.smali file that indicates border spacing at all. Am I even on the right track here, or am I looking in completely the wrong place?

I've looked all over the forum, but don't see any recent posts for my question. So I'm hoping someone can help... I would like to hide or remove unwanted icons from the left side of the notification/status bar. I realize most programs give you this option, but some don't (such as the latest version of Norton security program). It just sits up there and hogs up real estate. Ideally, it would also be nice to be able to rearrange the icons, or make them larger if desired..

So I just got the Swype beta, and I have a small problem. If I ever decide to cancel typing (say I have text input open and the Swype keyboard is covering the bottom half of my screen) the keyboard stays open and I have to tap home again for it to disappear. Are there any workarounds for this or is it simply because its beta? I noticed that even if I revert back to the default Sense keyboard it does the same thing.

I'm trying to limit my mobile data usage with out jumping through hoops.
I'm looking for a widget, that with one click of a button, it can restrict background data, disable auto-sync and enable mobile data, and when pressed again, enable WiFi, disable background restriction and enable auto-sync.
This function, no matter how trivial, would save time and effort.
Is there anything like this out there? Would something like this require root?

Let's say you have some media on your device that you don't want prying eyes to stumble across in your Gallery. As it is right now Android does a stellar job finding your media and adding it to your gallery. I found this video showing how to hide a folder by renaming the folder using Astro and adding a "." to the beginning of the folder name.

I just got Samsung galaxy tab plus for test drive. Cool tablet but coming from Blackberry Playbook (still own it) it just kills me that the taskbar (i think this is how it is called) is always visible whether watching a movie or playing a game. My samsung is supposed to get ICS update soon and i am wondering if it has option to hide taskbar? Having it always visiblereally ruins whole experience playing games or watching movies.

My company has a policy for our company email application (Good) that doesn't allow the application to run if a phone is rooted. Brilliant, the application is password protected and has remote wipe capabilities, but that still isn't enough for them! Which means I'm stuck carrying two phones around. I would like to either hide superuser/su/root from the phone when I'm not needing the escalated rights, or just block it from seeing it completely.
I'm currently running (about to upgrade to a new ROM, but not sure which):
Samsung Galaxy S Captivate
MODEL #: SAMSUNG-SGH-I897
FIRMWARE: 2.2
BASEBAND VERSION: I897UCJI6
KERNEL VER: 2.6.32.9
BUILD #: COGNITION.V2.3B8
One last thought if I can get this accomplished. I might be that I might be looking to get the new Samsung Infuse 4g (AT&T), since I'd finally be consolidating to 1 phone.

I have a galaxy nexus and I am wondering if there is a way to permanently hide the Softkeys whilst retaining the status bar (yes I know about expanded desktop). I use LMT's PIE feature to navigate and I find it much more useful. I personally like PIE better so I have more screen space.

I've got this piece of code from an xml in my settings.apk (SecSettings actually) that contains tutorials on motion settings.
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<PreferenceScreen android:title="@string/motion_tutorial_settings_title" android:key="parent"
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<Preference android:title="@string/turn_over_title" android:key="turn_over" android:summary="@string/turn_over_summary" />
[Code] ......
In there, all the red parts contain tutorials on settings that don't actually work on my device, and for OCD sake, I don't want them appearing in my settings because of it. But simply cutting them out of that file will make the settings app crash whenever i open that menu
So question is: is there a way to hide these settings without impairing their functions?
