General :: Android Device Freezing All The Time
Feb 13, 2012
Have been having issues with MyTouch 4G freezing. According to community area, minimum amount of available internal device space for Android device is 25 MB. This amount was first determined by Android to be for the G1 which only had 126 MB of internal device available space. My question is, with Android phones having more available space ie: MyTouch 4g 4GB ROM and 512 MB RAM, should the available internal phone storage be higher than 25MB in order to run properly? It would seem to me that if the phone had more available internal phone storage, the available space needs to be proportionally greater to run properly.

For the second time in a month I had to 'fix' text messaging by shutting my Droid Incredible down and rebooting. This was Verizon's suggestion.
I'm thinking an auto-reboot app, set up to reboot the DINC once a week, or even nightly, might be a smart thing to install.
Is there an auto-reboot app out there?

Does anyone know know how to programatically get the local date and time of the Android device? With that local date and time, does anyone know how to convert that to milliseconds from 1970 in UTC time?

i need to know about the LocationListener() working in the real time. Does it expect the user(device) to move in order to update the current location details or it automatically updates when ever the gps is enabled? Another query is regarding the getLastKnownLocation(). When is that last known location will be lost and thus returns null... (in realtime).

Is there some way to have Eclipse NOT present the Android Device Chooser dialog every time I run the Android application I'm developing? I'm using a running Android device, not an AVD. There's got to be some place I can set my default device to be the Android device so that I don't have to double-click on the device entry in the ADC dialog everytime.

I currently have a phone based on mt6577 where I started to modify the kernel to improve performance but I have a big concern about the swap. I want to enable zram.I turn on when I swap it ends up freezing the system reboots instantly or with a random delay. Kernel 3.0, 4.0.4 ICS
I tried to create a swap file system, the result is the same.I have been looking for a while or could be the problem but without result.

I got a samsung galaxy S2 I love this phone. I've had it since early this year and it's been the best phone I've had in a Long time. But the past few weeks it keeps freezing up I either have to just leave it alone for a few minutes or pull the battery. And then I leave it alone and it resets it's self when it comes back the time is always of by s few hours and most of my apps that I have on my sd card are not there. And it takes awhile for everything to go back to normal. What are my options? should I just do a factory reset? Or is there something else I can try. It is rooted but I don't think that had anything to do with it because this started well after I rooted. And since it is rooted is there anything I have to do before doing a factory rest.

Finally decided to bite the bullet and make an account.
Yesterday I bought my first android phone (LG Optimus 2x). Rooted it succesfully today and downloaded Bloat Freezer. I froze several applications successfully, but I think I went a step too far and froze somthing vital. Now my phone will not get past the intial 'StarHub' screen when turning on.
I have tried several things to try and fix this. I have tried unrooting the phone - this has not worked. I have also tried running the NVFlash and this has also yielded no results. I've tried the hard reset (holding volume keys when turning on) however it seems to freeze and nothing tends to happen.
My question therefore is, is it possible to defrost/unfreeze applications via computer?

I have a LG Optimus G2X (p999), running CM7.
The phone got waterlogged being in a backpack during a thunderstorm. The common "overnight-in-rice" remedy worked to dry the phone. On power up everything seemed fine except for one thing, the notification that says "Safe to remove SD Card". Upon further inspection it seems to be irrelevant to the real problem, as the sd card is still readable and writable by the phone.
The phone "freezes" after allowing the phone to sleep (locking not necessary for the problem to occur). After the screen goes off for more than a few seconds, then next wake action will turn on the screen but the system will not respond. Only hitting the power button seems turn off the screen. From that point onward, no key is responsive (screen will stay off). The cause seems to be caused by the following logcat message
[ 09-12 16:36:26.434 1110:0x495 W/SharedBufferStack ]
waitForCondition(LockCondition) timed out (identity=67, status=0). CPU may be pegged. trying again.
This warning is spammed from the point of "freezing" untill I pull the battery. Also the following message seems to be an indicator as to why the phone won't wake again.
[ 09-12 16:36:26.991 1110:0x497 D/KeyguardViewMediator ]
wakeWhenReadyLocked(26)
The problem is difficult to debug because I cannot debug it, literally. The problem only occurs while on battery power. Connecting the cable to a usb port stopping this problem from occuring.
Things I've tried
-Airplane mode (to eliminate any communcation device as being the problem)
-Loaded an entirely different rom (Paranoid Android CM9 Based)

The quick start guide says 3 hours to charge, where as here.
HTC Desire - When I first receive my phone, do I need to charge the battery?
It states 8 hours. Which should I follow? Also, can I have it switched on while I charge so I can set it up? And I imagine I should let it fully discharge before charging it again, but how many times is this appropriate for? The first 2 or 3 or more times?

I have an Ematic eGlide Steal 7 inch tablet. It is unrooted (it's factory but the Flixter app insists it is Rooted) running 4.0.3. I try to install Chrome from the old Google Market app (play won't work on this device) and when ever I try to run it it locks up the entire tablet with in 30 seconds of launch forcing me to press the reset button. The only place i have seen on the forums with anything close to this was with the beta versions which I am not running.

While using network provider for location updates, I found that it is the same time that I set on my device. Can it not be that provided by network as it goes when it is GPS. Or if network provider cannot provide time , then atleast location.getTime() should return 0 instead of device time. Is there any way to avoid device time, as I want to distinguish it.

How can I determine if the current time is between two other time objects?
For example: current: 15:23, startTime: 22:00, endTime: 06:00. So the current time is not between this two other times, but this "23:47" is.
*I don't care about the date, only the time
I tried to do it like this:
Code:
Time startTime = getStartTime();
Time endTime = getEndTime();
Calendar c = Calendar.getInstance();
Time now = new Time(c.getTimeInMillis());
[Code]...
but it dosen't work well. their aren't any errors but it just dosen't work.
To be more precise the problem is that 15:35.after(22:00) return true... and I don't know why. I think that the problem is something with the dates but I don't know what

Basically I have an old iPod touch 2g on iOS 4.x and a Nexus 5.
I want to use my iPod as my media player but I'd like to be able to control music from my Nexus (only basic controls).
Is there an app on either device that allows this? I know tsk skipping can be done by some Bluetooth headphones so I'm hoping there's a way to make iOS accept command from my Nexus

I have recently experimented with creating an easy way to open a ProgressDialog up in a second thread, so if the main thread freezes the dialog will keep working. Here is the class: public class ProgressDialogThread extends Thread
public Looper ThreadLooper;
public Handler mHandler;public ProgressDialog ThreadDialog;
public Context DialogContext;
public String DialogTitle;
public String DialogMessage;
public ProgressDialogThread(Context mContext, String mTitle, String mMessage)
{ DialogContext = mContext;
DialogTitle = mTitle;
DialogMessage = mMessage;
} public void run()
{ Looper.prepare();
ThreadLooper = Looper.myLooper();
ThreadDialog = new ProgressDialog(DialogContext);
ThreadDialog.setTitle(DialogTitle);
ThreadDialog.setMessage(DialogMessage);
ThreadDialog.show();
mHandler = new Handler();
Looper.loop();
} public void Update(final String mTitle, final String mMessage)
{ while(mHandler == null)
synchronized(this) {
try { wait(10); }
catch (InterruptedException e) {
Log.d("Exception(ProgressDialogThread.Update)", e.getMessage() == null ? "MISSING MESSAGE" : e.getMessage());
mHandler.post(new Runnable(){
@Override
public void run() {
ThreadDialog.setTitle(mTitle);
ThreadDialog.setMessage(mMessage);
public void Dismiss()
{ while(ThreadDialog == null || mHandler == null)
synchronized(this) {
try { wait(10); }
catch (InterruptedException e) {
Log.d("Exception(ProgressDialogThread.Dismiss)", e.getMessage() == null ? "MISSING MESSAGE" : e.getMessage());
mHandler.post(new Runnable(){
@Override
public void run() {
ThreadDialog.dismiss();
public void Continue()
{ while(ThreadLooper == null || mHandler == null)
synchronized(this) {
try { wait(10); }
catch (InterruptedException e) {
Log.d("Exception(ProgressDialogThread.Continue)", e.getMessage() == null ? "MISSING MESSAGE" : e.getMessage());
mHandler.post(new Runnable(){
@Override
public void run() {
ThreadLooper.quit();
However it sometimes work perfectly but other times the application simply freezes and crashes eventually.Here is an example of use:ProgressDialogThread thread = new ProgressDialogThread(this, "Loading", "Please wait...");
thread.start();
// Do Stuff
thread.Dismiss();
thread.Continue();It generates a lot of warning and even some crashes sometimes: eg. Handler: Sending message to dead thread.and exceptions like ANR

This morning I had a system update waiting for my on my G1.... It took quite some time to download just like the last update (Cupcake).. now I am having problems loading my phone.
I have the aHome application installed and I use that as my primary operating system (if you can call it that).
Now when my phone restarted after the update downloaded, it keeps giving me errors such as:
"The application aHome (process mobi.bbase.ahome) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
The application Messaging (process mobi.bbase.ahome) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
These errors repeatedly pop up and will not let any of my desktop load up or will it let me get into the system settings menu.
What should I do?! I've spent too much time customizing my phone for this friggin' update to just come along and destroy it all...

After the animating logic implemented in powermanagerservice.java file this issue is observed.
Problem: In unlocked state(no call guard screen) press three time end key. Sceen is getting freezed i.e phone is not accepting any touch events.Screen is getting blurred and lines are getting shown.Keep the phone like that and whole screen goes for a toss.
However if you press end key again.Phone is getting back to normal state and starts taking touch events.
