General :: Android App That Shows Battery Life Remaining In Notification Bar?
Jun 29, 2012
I'm looking for an app that would show the battery life remaining in my notification bar (similar to battery life remaining on mac computers), I've searched and searched and searched and cannot seem to find an app that does so. I have found apps that can tell me the time remaining, just not in the top bar of my phone. I'm running a Galaxy S3 w/ ICS.

First off, I read these forums like every day for 2 months (nearly drove my wife insane!) leading up to the release of the X. Stood in line and bought one in the store on the 15th. Had nothing but iPhones until now - loving my DroidX!
BUT
As of right now my battery is down to 60% after having been unplugged (when I unplugged I was at 100%) for 1hr 46m 9s!
It shows display at 93% and cell standby at 7%.
I'm running smart battery mode, auto screen brightness, not that many widgets, and I rooted it and have autokiller running on Aggressive.
Do I just have a bad battery? And if so will Verizon (or Moto) give me a new one?

Anyone know of a widget that shows the battery life in smaller increments, preferably 1% increments.
i have "Batterylife" But it only tells you every 10% which is annoying to me.

Today i found a new battery issue with the phone. I tried searching the forum but as you can probably see from the title could not find the right words to define it. At night i left the battery at around 70% and when i woke up it was shown as 5% (no i did not sleep for 24hrs straight.). with the sync, bluetooth, GPS, wireless and Data (through Quick Settings) off.
but thats not the fun part yet. it comes when i plugged in my car charger the battery level jumped from 5% to 60% within a millisecond. I know the the charger box said "Fast Rate Charger" but this is ridiculous. unless i got one of those freak hyper super fast charger (which i doubt, hardly that lucky), there is a software bug. Does anyone know how to remedy this cuz now i dont think i can trust the battery level thingy. It fun when it happens this way but i dont think i would be laughing if the battery dropped by 50%.

Searching old posts reveal that no one knows a way to get the current battery level without using intents. Is this true? There's no method to just return the current battery level?

62 hours and 24% battery still remaining. This is after my initial period of hammering on the phone and back to my normal daily usage pattern which is like a blackberry user (some phone calls in and out, lots of email, at least a few every 30 minutes during the day and early evening). What this means for me as a blackberry user is that I can now confidently switch over from blackberry to the Evo as primary phone and get through a normal day (16 hours) without needing a mid-day charge.
Here are settings from my testing experience that I wish I had known when I first got the EVO at Google I/O:
1. Add to home sense screen:
widget: Power Control Android
widget: settings, 4G
widget: settings: Hotspot
2. Install android market apps (free):
Advanced Task Killer
Spare Parts
K-9 Mail
3. Run Advanced Task Killer (some disagree, do what you want. I'll revisit and retest this when 2.2 gets released by HTC for the EVO. I don't need sprint navigation, sprint tv, etc. to ever be running since I will use google navigation. I haven't had time to do another endurance test without using ATK and I'm not planning to do another endurance test)
Deselect things you actually want to keep running in the background, e.g.:
voice dialer
voice search
google voice
calendar
k-9 mail
gmail
....
Kill selected apps
ATK will put a notification up at each boot and remember your selections so it's easy to re-kill off all the sprint and other apps you don't normally want 'running' in the background.
4. Turn off 4G and hotspot on the main page with widgets installed.
Note: I found I don't need to disable gps or bluetooth since with streamlined apps running nothing is using them unless I want it to and I want my bluetooth to automatically pickup when I get in the car.
5. Turn screen brightness to low or medium using widget icon. this disables auto brightness but the lower screen brightness seems fine for me. When outside in the sun just click it up if needed
6. Settings Wireless and Networks, Wi-Fi Settings, <menu button> Advanced, Wi-Fi sleep policy, Never.
It's a bit counterintuitive, but I've tested it out both ways and confirmed the articles that recommend this. The phone uses dramatically less power in this state as opposed to auto sleeping wi-fi which turns on the 3G radio. Dramatic as in without keeping wi-fi alive overnight my battery went from like 70% to almost nothing during earlier tests.
7. <optional> Run the battery from a full charge to completely drained once. I'm not sure if this had an effect or not, just putting it in because I did it once before this current long runtime since charge to make sure the battery was properly profiled. It's easy to do with 4G on and watching HD youtube videos.
8. K-9 versus gmail client. I'm seeing much more cpu usage from gmail client versus K-9. I have work email on a host service that supports imap idle (rackspace). The imap idle push seems to really save on cpu usage and my work email delivers as fast to the Evo as it does to my blackberry. I like the gmail client for my personal mail but may end up switching my gmail.com to deliver via K-9 instead to really save on battery. Needs more exploring but it appears the gmail client 'push' is not as efficient as the imap idle.
9. Summary, when you want to show off your 4G Youtube HD or use the phone as a mobile hotspot, just click on the 4G and away it goes. But normally keep that radio off since you don't actually need it and it's a huge power drain. With the widget installed this becomes an easy habit.

There is some app( presumebly ) that is sounding my default notification sound at ( seemingly ) random intervals, however no app shows up in the notification center. How to track down what app, or what notification is doing this.
What could sound off without actually showing you the notification ... I mostly only have notifications on for Gmail, Voicemail, GoSms. I have several other apps installed ( Foursquare, Facebook, and maybe a couple others ) that are capable of notifications, but their all turned off ... and even if they were sounding, wouldn't you think I would see something in the notification center dropdown?

I'd like to know if it's actually default google now behaviour or not. When ever weather cards / traffic updates show up, I only get to know about it if i pull down the notification panel. No icon (the car and the cloud) appears on the status bar. Is there any way to enable this? I notice it appearing only when I select it via the halo (Nexus 4 - ParanoidAndroid / CrDroid] Is it like this for everyone?

how come none of the roms for the droid don't display the battery remaining in 1% increments. I just put a new ron on my girlfriends eris and it has this ability, just wondering why we don't have that, it would be nice.

As I remember the issue got started from my fault about wipping my battery state. my battery never charged to 100%.I tought I can solve this by wiping when it's fully charged(99%).so I charge my phone to 99% and wipped.but after that my charge percentage got wrong.for example it shows 50%,but it gets off bcoz of low battery.or I plug my charger when it's at 30%.it jumps to 90%rapidly.I have changed my rom.but no results.I tought maybe it's from relation of hardware(battery)and software(ROM) data.so I decide to try my idea.
My idea was:wipe and format all things at recovery.draining battery to 0%(by entering the downloading mode and remaining to it untill phone gets off)then pluging it to charger and let it fully charged.and then odin and installing a ROM.but I have wiped and formated all ghings.but when I plug the charger now a battery icon appears on the screen, but it doesn't get green as it is charging.

just always wondered why booting into recovery (any recovery, CM, EE whatever) completely annihilates battery life. This has been true for both android phones i've owned. Just now I booted into CM recovery just to check something, i did no flashing, deleting or anything. I was in it for maybe 10 seconds before i restarted my phone and i went from 46% battery to 12%. This is fairly typical whenever i use recovery..

I just got a new Droid Bionic last week. My brother got one about a week before me as well. I feel like his battery last so much longer than mine. What can I do to extend my battery life. I feel like he uses his just as much as me, but I feel like his last much longer. My first Bionic was defective and wouldn't charge past 40% so I returned it, and I feel like this one doesn't last as long as I want.

I have had my Samsung Galaxy S phone (Samsung Fascinate to be specific) for a full year now, and it wasn't until just recently that i have been having battery life problems. I could get a full days worth and more in the past, but now, my battery has been acting odd. I would usually charge it while I was sleeping, then wake up and go through my day just fine. But now, the minute i take it off the charger, it goes straight to being only half charged, and this is after 5 or 6 hours of charging.

how to improve battery life on AOSP ROM. I tried other ics ROM for my phone, which had the best battery life ... Do you think I should decompile "boot.img" (from ROM, which has a good battery life) and move kernel into the boot.img on AOSP ROM? Or do you know how to improve battery life on AOSP ROM ?

I'm at the end of the day now and I'm going to list my battery usage on here. The battery life is definitely better then my old android but I know people getting over 15 hours so called 'heavy usage' If theres anything you see that I can turn off or lessen the usage of something. I feel like I'm either unaware of something running the background that's sucking up battery life like the music player or maybe possibly not getting full potential. I've already done a factory reset and added apps back in slowly but still same kind of battery life. I've turned off date connection and turn on wifi when I'm home and it hardly improves, also use smart actions. I'll accept the fact that I'm expecting too much. But I'm just curious about what other Maxx users are getting?

It's been 9 days since i bought my galaxy wonder. Its battery is too weird for 3 days.Because 3 days ago 2.5 hours passed until %98.Now once i unplug its charger, it downs to %84 in 2.5 hours
Why is it too unstable? I didn't calibrate. (If that means charging it 12 hours after it discharged for the first time, i didn't do it.May it be the reason?)
BTW, important note : All settings are off (Wi-fi,bluetooth,gps,syncronization) and screen brightness is about %30 or %35 i guess.I don't even use live wallpaper and only widget i use is battery widget.(A simple widget 100 kb)

I have been using HTC Desire S for about 2 yrs now, but since I am not a power user, I just use it as it came. Now considering to root it and was looking more closely at things and I see there are many services running in the background under "Running".
I don't know the inner workings of Android system, so would like to know if more services are running (especially from apps which I don't regularly use) then does it effect battery life and does it make the phone slower ?
For example under Calendar, 4 services are running - AutoSettingService, ImmediateModeService, DashboardService,ConnecttoPcService.
Google Maps has TrafficAppWidgetUpdateService and PrefetcherService ( I rarely use Google maps because I use offline rmaps)
Another thing is I have a prepaid connection without a data plan so I would like to control which apps connect to the net when i switch on 3G - i mean I would prefer if only the app which I want to use the data should use it, while others should not.
And there are some things taking data, which i don't really understand - but since they are related to Android system I am not sure whether to try to restrict them (Android System, HTC Function test, HTC Checkin service, Settings storage, VPN, Status bar, Bluetooth, Google backpp transport, etc, Phone, Dialer Storage, SIM toolkit)
Any general idea about these services - battery and network usage and effect on responsiveness ?

What roms could I get that enhance battery life? Or change the overral theme of my phone? I was expecting some drastic changes when I rooted

I'm really having a hard time understanding about the undervolt in SetXperia application. They say it will improve the battery life (not battery lifespan) of my phone but the problem is... I don't know how to set up the undervolt to manage the battery life of my phone.
I'm using Xperia Neo V.

All Access, however really hating the battery drain I am getting with the updated app. My battery drain problems started immediately after updating from the pre-All Access version which I never had trouble with. Now it hogs all my battery. Even overnight when I'm sleeping, and the app is not be used and fully exited using the back button, I am getting a loss of 10% battery life per hour. Actually using my phone is even worse. In fact it's rather unusable at this rate of drain. In about 45 minutes of GPMAA use, it lost 25% battery life!
Unchecking the Google Music sync from their account section in settings. I did that, but still getting horrible battery life. Short of uninstalling this app, and losing a service I am really starting to like, what can I do?

I've been watching my battery life recently as I hate my phone dying during the middle of the day and was wondering if battery life would be affected by playing large music files?
I listen to spotify quite a bit and haven't really noticed my battery severely affected by playing music for a long time but this week I was listening to a podcast which was 160MB (2Hr music podcast if you were wondering) and my battery life plummeted. This would also correlate then to why my battery life plummets when listening to other large podcasts.
