Android :: Usable USB Ports On N1?
Aug 22, 2010
Assuming I have a USB device I want to attach to a N1, would it be usable? Lets assume I have the drivers or can write them to interact with the device. Is the support for USB that extensive on Android devices? I can find information about making the phone a host, charging, ect, but I can't find information beyond that.

Anyone know what special ports android uses to browse the web? Of course it must be port 80, but there has got be an additional port or something. My web server is accessible via computer browsers but not by android unless I turn off the software firewall. Something about the android connection, the firewall doesn't like.

I was looking at the API, and Ive tried to determine this:
On a given port, check if it's available or already some application listens to it.

I've had an inquiry about whether my Android app can interface with a serial device via USB cable. Before I invest too much time in this path, I'd like to know: Is this even possible? Some previous threads indicate Android won't do host USB. Would it require root access and/or the NDK? Would it be better to advise the potential client to look for a serial blue tooth adapter? I can see that there is a Blue tooth Sock class which may do the job.

I have been trying for weeks to try and tether my XBL with my Android. I have been trying it wireless type and wired. The wireless type I've been using the WiFi tether app along with the xbl WiFi. When I turn on the WiFi router on the XBL, the Droid tether shows up and connects just fine, however, It will not connect the profile to xbl. Any one have any ideas here ?
The other I've been trying to get to work is doing the wired route and by going into all my settings and changing them over like you would doing the open server deal. I dunno threw the properties and adding the XBL ports. Now the problem I have with this I can change just about every port to one another by port 2 and port 5. Port 2 needs to be 53 TCP / UCP < that one. When I switch to accept it tells me that I have the same ports being used. I've tried this method on a friends computer who is using Windows 7 and it works just fine changing ports wise.

I know I could use it and I think others have mentioned they would like to use it in their apps. Currently it is "internal" so we're not supposed to use it and we have to "roll our own" which is a pain (I've done it). Also why does DatePicker only have a 200 year range (1900-2100)? Even the date gadget that the Pocket PC has goes back as far as mid 1700s. Add a range option on it.

I added around 6 gb of music to my 8 gb microSD card. After that the Camera updates the SD card for 20 minutes initially and after each picture is taken, and the Gallery says "Please wait..." for 20 minutes each time a new picture is added. If I remove the music files the slowdown is almost gone. I still think the Gallery is slow updating, but I can live with a few seconds. 20 minutes between each picture is just insane. The SD card works fine otherwise, and I have tried to reformat on the phone also. Same problem. What is wrong, and is ther anything I can do except for not having music on the phone?

I am playing around a bit with peer-to-peer communication with android devices.I have written a basic program that creates a listening ServerSocket on each phone using the application. Using the application you can also connect to other devices that is listening, by connecting to the remote ServerSocket. Nothing strange about that.My problem is that it seems that the listening port is not open for connection on different devices. I can connect to my HTC Desire, works like a charm. But connecting to a HTC Hero I get timeout, same if I try to connect to the emulator. But connection FROM the emulator to the Desire and FROM the Hero to the Desire works like a charm. Whats up with this? No security apps is installed and both devices(and the emulator) is running 2.1.

I defined a white color in mycolors.xml under res/values as below:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<resources>
<color name="my_white">#ffffffff</color>
</resources>
In my code, I set the text color of a TextView as the white color I defined:
TextView myText = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.my_text);
myText.setTextColor(R.color.my_white);
But the text in the TextView turned out to be a black color. When I use @color/my_white in layout xml files, it works fine. I check the generate R.java, and see: public static final int my_white=0x7f070025;

My Android phone is soft bricked it is an VS870 LG 4G Lite Lucid II.
This is the second time my phone becomes bricked due to my last incident with my samsung. It has nothing to do with it being rooted, but uninstalled some apps in the phone which I thought had nothing to do with the system. IDK last one I uninstalled was zappos. I know how to un-brick my phone, but my only problem is getting the phone to be recognized by my computer. I tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers, removing the battery from the phone, using different USB ports still no luck . Could it be that the battery percentage went below 75%? if so I have no way else to charge, it does not seem to charge anymore?

Has anyone figured out how to play audio from the HTC EVO (mp3, Pandora, etc) through the USB or HDMI ports?I've looked seemingly everywhere and have not found anyone who has done it.I want to be able to amply drive my Grado SR80i headphones.I believe I could do it with a portable amp like HeadRoom's Total AirHead through the headphone jack, but if I'm not mistaken, the headphone jack is sonically inferior to a line out jack. The problem is, the EVO doesn't have a line out jack.my inquiry regarding harnessing audio from either the USB or HDMI ports.Let's assume the answer to my question above is NO.I'm relatively satisfied with the sound quality I get from the EVO using Sennheiser PX 100 headphones and the tiny FiiO amp. The problem is, I blew the Sennheisers. That's why I bought the Grados.Undoubtedly, the Grados will handle more power. Unfortunately, my tiny FiiO amp won't power the Grados. So my second question then is will a better amp sufficiently power the Grados through the headphone jack?

I am using two ics phones, Galaxy Nexus and Htc Sensation stock roms. I am trying to connect to my DVR devices through a 3g router using well known network ports numbers (>1024) for the dvr devices.
The network consist of 3 devices:
3g router: my domain com : 80
Dvr Device1: my domain com : 7687
Dvr Device2: my domain com : 5054
I can connect to the 3g router which is listening to port 80 from my android phones but not to the dvr devices using a 3g network.
But I can connect using the android phones if they are connected to a WIFI network or an Iphone (2g,3g,wifi), a Nokia symbian phone (2g,3g,wifi) or a Pc using adsl internet connection.
There isn't a port forward issue since I can connect from every device except android phones.

I just made a private comment to twospirits, suggesting that he sticky the "What Apps Do You Have" thread. His response was that he didn't want to sticky too many threads, as to overwhelm the main page with a dozen stickied threads. Instead, he's relying on the "Forum Guidelines" stickied item. I think that's great but in my past experience, new users don't usually check that. In my experience, new users will simply come on in, maybe glance over the thread titles of the first page to see if any pertain to what they're interested in, then simply start a new thread to get their questions addressed. And that new thread is often redundant. twospirits suggested that I start a discussion to see what others in the community thought. If you have a specific thread that you think should be stickied
My nominations:
EVO Screen Protectors Thread
What apps to put on your EVO 4G
Ultimate Screen Protector-Body Skin Thread

I have some light leakage from the ports on the bottom of the phone. It only happens when the capacitive buttons are lit. The screen seems solid, not separating from case. Will this eventually lead to dust under the screen or not an issue to worry about?

I just noticed yesterday accidentally that you can press and hold the search button on the lock screen and perform anything Google Voice Actions is capable of. I am using a Droid 2 unrooted. This may affect the Droid X as well. This is a huge security flaw in Motorola's modified pattern/PIN lock screen. Hopefully this thread garnishes enough attention so that this can be patched soon! Steps to reproduce:
1. Lock your screen
2. Press and hold the search button "magnifying glass"
3. Speak any voice action and the phone will respond. Note: you will not get any visual or audible cues (in Google Voice Actions) that it is working, but it is!

One thing though I cant get over was the keyboard. Being so off center I found that I could not type as normal becuase my right thumb could not reach to the "yhn" row (middle of the keyboard). I know many have said you get used to it so this is my question. In getting used to it, does that mean you learned to hold the phone differently? Did you type more with your left thumb? In all honesty, I found the keyboard to be bad enough that I questioned weather its worth having it at all. In which case the Nexus might be a better alternative once it comes out on Verizon.

What is the lowest % my battery will go on the EVO before the phone dies and is unable to power on until charged? I've ran it down to 20% but that isn't even close i'm hoping. My old palm pre would be very close to death and cut-out anywhere under 16%. I'd just like to know in-case I get into an emergency battery saving situation.

I've been doing a bit of research, and it seems that Samsung Kies is not meant for (or supported) for North America. Apparently, the older versions of Kies could work on our Captivates and was available to download through Samsung's Europe site. However, the newer versions of Samsung Kies can apparently detect that we've got North American Captivates and will not connect. Anybody have links to the older versions? Doesn't proprietary-ness totally defeat the reason we bought androids in the first place?
