Android :: Setup/calculate Texturebuffer In GlTexCoordPointer When Importing From OBJ-file
Nov 20, 2010
I'm parsing an OBJ-file in Android and my goal is to render & display the object. Everything works fine except the correct texture mapping (importing the resource/image into opengl etc works fine).
I don't know how to populate the texture related data from the obj-file into an texturebuffer-object.
In the OBJ-file I've vt-lines:
CODE:.......
And face-lines: f 127/73/62 98/72/62 125/75/62
My draw-routine looks like (only relevant parts):
CODE:............
Output of the counts of the OBJ-file:
CODE:..................

So I had a 5 yr old blackberry, was able to use the blackberry software to output my phone book (name,addy,ph#, all kinds of data) to a comma delimited txt file, which i then imported into an .xls excel spreadsheet. is there a way to use either of those files to populate my phone book on my new phone (droid x, android 2.2) instead of typing up hundreds of new entries?

Some classes are NOT PUBLIC like android.os.ServiceManager, android.view.IWindowManager, etc, they are implemented in the mobile devices, but not present in the SDK .jar. This is because these classes are private APIs . now please tell me is there any way like compiling source code or importing private class file into android.jar so that i can use this private APIs.

I've read various answers to similar questions on StackOverflow, so I apologise if I'm repeating another question, but I can't seem to get this to work.
I have a standard java project in which I've written code to parse some BBC Radio XML data from the internet. The project is called BBCSchedules and the class I'm interested in is called BBCChannel.
I'm now trying to use the BBCChannel class in an android application. How should I go about doing this?
I've tried various things, following various bits of advice on the internet, and the place I've got to at the moment is compiling my BBCSchedules project to a .jar file, and importing that to the Android project using the Build Path/Library/Add External Jar option. However, Eclispe still doesn't recognise the BBCChannel class, and won't let me run the application because of this.

I followed the instructions here on how to create an Android library project, and use it in an Android application:
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/eclipse-adt.html
But it is not working. I can see the library project is added to my application but I cannot reference anything in it because it won't build. The R.java file from the lib is NOT being added to my application project, so the lib project contains tons of errors, everywhere it tries to reference it's own R.java file.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but in the console there are messages stating that the there is "No resource identifier found for attribute 'X' in package 'Lib Package'. My library package has a a few styleable attributes defined for a custom view I made, all of which are being complained about in this console message. The library builds just fine, and I don't get those messages in the console until I hook the library to my application, so I don't know what's up with this.

I have an XMl file like below which I will use to set background for Textview:
row.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:shape="rectangle">
The above Xml I will set as background for TextView in main.xml as below:
main.xml
<TextView
android:id="@+id/rowtext3"
android:text="Availablity"
android:layout_height="25px"
android:layout_width="60px"
android:textSize="10px"
android:textStyle="bold"
android:textColor="@color/black"
android:gravity="center"
android:background="@drawable/row"/>
But I want this to do from code rather than Xml.I have done everything that I have done in Xml like font,width,Height,font dynamically through code , but not able to set Background that I mentioned in Xml file . How can we set content of Xml file as background to textview similar to how we set background as XML in main.xml.
In the code I have done like this:
t1=new TextView(this);
t1.setText(ed1.getText());
t1.setHeight(25);
t1.setWidth(60);
t1.setTextSize(10);
But I didn't find how to set background i.e. how to set XML content as background?

I've given up on finding an automatic OTA sync for my photos so I figured since I plug my phone to the computer once a day anyways, why not just use that. I'd like to have a program that would automatically sync my photos/videos or a specified folder/directory to my computer.

I downloaded the SMB module for my MotoDroid, but am not really clear on how to configure my Windows Networking settings and what exactly needs to be entered in Astro's configuration settings. Is there a guide on how to do this on the web?.. if so, I haven't been able to find it.

I need to calculate a rotation vector out of the data i get from Sensor.TYPE_ORIENTATION. The sensor data is defined like this: the values have to be recalculated to become a correct 3d position: values[0]: Azimuth, angle between the magnetic north direction and the Y axis, around the Z axis (0 to 359). 0=North, 90=East, 180=South, 270=West values[1]: Pitch, rotation around X axis (-180 to 180), with positive values when the z-axis moves toward the y-axis. values[2]: Roll, rotation around Y axis (-90 to 90), with positive values when the x-axis moves away from the z-axis need all three values like the Z axis value (from 0 to 360 degree). I tried a lot but cant figure out how to do this :/ So i bet there is a simple solution how to recall the values of sensor.TYPE_ORIENTATION to make them a 3d rotation vector, but i just dont know how to do it. If you know the answer please tell me. Code...

How much space does a TextView take?
When I declare a TextView, is it possible to calculate how much space (height and width) it is going to take when actually rendered on the phone?
I have noticed that based on the different screen sizes of phones (or density), the TextView is rendered accordingly. I want to be able to calculate the exact height and width rendered.

So I'm developing an app for android, and before I get too much into it, I want to conceptually get my arms around what I am trying to do. Is it very difficult to calculate or track the most frequently accessed apps? Any ideas or insights about how I might go about getting this done would be greatly appreciated! I'm used to iphone development, and am quite new to the android platform.

In my app I am displaying a table where the individual cells are editable text fields (i.e. EditText objects). I am currently struggling calculating appropriate widths for these.
If I set the width to be as many "Ems" as the displayed text has characters, my fields are much to wide by about a factor of 2 and the table looks ugly and wastes lots of precious screen space. Setting the width in "Ems" is essentially like assuming the worst case, i.e. the width of a string under the assumption that it contains only the broadest characters in a font, usually 'M' (hence the name of the method), 'm', 'W', or '_'). But on average strings contain narrower characters and so most of these fields are half empty and much too wide for their actual content. I am thus desperately seeking a way to calculate a better fitting width, not that worst case width.
The "normal" way to do this in Java (in AWT or Swing at least) is to asks a widget's current Font (actually a Font's FontMetrics), to calculate and return the width that will be necessary to display a given string in pixels. But how does one obtain a TextView's Font? I haven't found any method to obtain a (Text)View's font and/or calculate a more appropriate width given the actual content of a cell's text string. How does one do that in Android?

I'm building a text at runtime that will be put into a TextView. This text has composed with different size fonts. I must calculate the width in pixels of this text. I have tried to use Paint.measureText, but it does not consider the different font sizes.
How can I calculate the real width?
this is an example: code..
In this example, if I set the relative size to "2f " or "3f"(for example), the total size that returns "MeasureText" is the same.
