How do I use Google Maps app to calculate the driving time and distance from Chicago to Los Angeles? *ONLY* Chicago to Los Angeles.... not NYC-Chicago-LA
I can do this very easily using my Macbook Pro by firing up Google Maps in Chrome browser.(or any browser)
However, I just can't figure out how to do this using the Google Maps app on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Sure, I can use use a browser to do this, but I want to do it inside the Google Maps app for Android.

I am developing a game. In which the user controls movement using the accelerometer. Sounds effects can also be enabled. However when laying the phone flat down and playing the game without the accelerometer gives nice 0,0,0 values. However when play WITH SOUNDS on, i get a buch of weird values: while the phone is NOT moving.
This is really a big bug that makes life hard for Game Developers. I tried to take an avarge of the last 5 values from the sensor.. but this is not enough.. The harder the sounds plays: the higher the weird sensor values. When using the headphones: almost no weird values. Seems that sounds interferes with the accelerometer sensor.

I want to make a apps that check what's the nearest place from where the user is. I can easily get the location of the user and I have a list of places with latitude and longitude. What would be the best way to know the nearest place of the list against the current position. I could not find anything in the google APIs. I am worried I need to resort to my calculate and have to do math to calculate it.

I have used the algorithm on http://www.movable-type.co.uk/scripts/latlong.html to find the distance between two points.
My two points are
long1 = 51.507467;
lat1 = -0.08776;
long2 = 51.508736;
lat2 = -0.08612;
According to Movable Type Script the answer is 0.1812km
My application gives the result (d) as 0.230km code...

1) I have not been able to find out in which units Location.distance Between receives the latitude and longitude. Is it degrees or micro degrees? Whats the unit for the distance returned? 2) In windows XP using Eclipse 3.3.2. Emulator does not send coordinates properly. Either it by hand or by loading a gpx file the location Listener is not invoked. This same code I have tried it in Ubuntu and works fine. Does someone know how can I solve this? In the office there is no linux installed and I can take my personal laptop.

I am implementing an application to search for nearest local venues from a gps coordinates database.
I am using the Location class distanceTo() function to calculate distance between two location the current one and the one from the database.
CODE:............
This work fine and i am able to use this distance to calculate proximity in the rest of my app, but the distance it self is not apparently in meters i am getting result like 4134801.4 i am sure that the distance is 3200meters in this case.

When I develop an Android map application, I want to draw a circle on the map whose radius is 1 meter. As you known, I can't draw 1 meter directly, I should convert 1 meter to the distance of two pixels depend on the zoom level. How to I convert it, is there anything API I can use.
Canvas.draw(x, y, radius), what value should I put to this method ?

I am wondering if the Location.distanceTo method will use the accuracy field of the Location object when approximates the location, or do I have to add by my own the errors to these fields. The usage is to compare the distance against a proximity value.
Float dist=currentLocation.distanceTo(loc2); Would this be if (dist<100meters) or
if (dist+currentLocation.getAccuracy()+loc2.getAccuracy()<100meters)

I need to calculate a rotation vector out of the data i get from Sensor.TYPE_ORIENTATION. The sensor data is defined like this: the values have to be recalculated to become a correct 3d position: values[0]: Azimuth, angle between the magnetic north direction and the Y axis, around the Z axis (0 to 359). 0=North, 90=East, 180=South, 270=West values[1]: Pitch, rotation around X axis (-180 to 180), with positive values when the z-axis moves toward the y-axis. values[2]: Roll, rotation around Y axis (-90 to 90), with positive values when the x-axis moves away from the z-axis need all three values like the Z axis value (from 0 to 360 degree). I tried a lot but cant figure out how to do this :/ So i bet there is a simple solution how to recall the values of sensor.TYPE_ORIENTATION to make them a 3d rotation vector, but i just dont know how to do it. If you know the answer please tell me. Code...

How much space does a TextView take?
When I declare a TextView, is it possible to calculate how much space (height and width) it is going to take when actually rendered on the phone?
I have noticed that based on the different screen sizes of phones (or density), the TextView is rendered accordingly. I want to be able to calculate the exact height and width rendered.

So I'm developing an app for android, and before I get too much into it, I want to conceptually get my arms around what I am trying to do. Is it very difficult to calculate or track the most frequently accessed apps? Any ideas or insights about how I might go about getting this done would be greatly appreciated! I'm used to iphone development, and am quite new to the android platform.

In my app I am displaying a table where the individual cells are editable text fields (i.e. EditText objects). I am currently struggling calculating appropriate widths for these.
If I set the width to be as many "Ems" as the displayed text has characters, my fields are much to wide by about a factor of 2 and the table looks ugly and wastes lots of precious screen space. Setting the width in "Ems" is essentially like assuming the worst case, i.e. the width of a string under the assumption that it contains only the broadest characters in a font, usually 'M' (hence the name of the method), 'm', 'W', or '_'). But on average strings contain narrower characters and so most of these fields are half empty and much too wide for their actual content. I am thus desperately seeking a way to calculate a better fitting width, not that worst case width.
The "normal" way to do this in Java (in AWT or Swing at least) is to asks a widget's current Font (actually a Font's FontMetrics), to calculate and return the width that will be necessary to display a given string in pixels. But how does one obtain a TextView's Font? I haven't found any method to obtain a (Text)View's font and/or calculate a more appropriate width given the actual content of a cell's text string. How does one do that in Android?

I'm building a text at runtime that will be put into a TextView. This text has composed with different size fonts. I must calculate the width in pixels of this text. I have tried to use Paint.measureText, but it does not consider the different font sizes.
How can I calculate the real width?
this is an example: code..
In this example, if I set the relative size to "2f " or "3f"(for example), the total size that returns "MeasureText" is the same.
