Android :: No Big Players
Oct 17, 2010
Seeing that Android is now selling more then Iphone in some regions, why haven't we had any real big players like Tesco, Argos, Amazon release apps yet?
I know Amazon is releasing a marketplace but can we really expect to see a massive improvement over the coming months?
My birthday is coming up soon and after currently owning a Desire, I'm now thinking of getting the IPhone 4 as this seems to be getting all the major apps at the moment.

Got a Droid Eris, love Sense, don't really like the music player. Too laggy for me, I tried Mixzing, and also is too slow. Anyone else have any other players that are speedy?

I just put out a new app into the market place called Fantasy Football On the Go for all of you who play Fantasy Football. I use Yahoo, CBS, and ESPN for the leagues I am in. There is a yahoo app which is fine. But the ESPN one is 5 bucks. The intent for my app is to have a quick and easy way to get stat updates for players you are interested in when you are not at home on Sundays. The idea came to me tailgating last season when my buddies and I had no way of getting updates. The app has a custom list of players that can be modified at any time. For each player in the list my app gives the time and score of the game, their stat line, and the fantasy points scored. The app has custom scoring options so you can configure it to whatever your league settings are to get accurate score totals.I have gotten a few downloads already but I will have to wait until Sunday get real feedback. I was hoping some people would be willing to give it a try this weekend to provide any improvements, suggestions, or report any problems. And if you dont like it for some reason then you have the 24 hour window to return.

I've been using doubleTwist to sync & manage my music on my HTC EVO 4G (and Palm Pre) and I've had just about enough of its slow iTunes syncing, slow device syncing and overall clunkiness (yes, I'm a previous user of the iPod/iTunes and Zune/Zune Software systems). Though I love the doubleTwist player for Android I'm done with doubleTwist. And no I'm not interested in Salling Media Sync (especially since its not free).
If I manage things myself by manually syncing/copying music to my Android (i.e., artist/album/ folder structure under /sdcard/music/):
[1] Where do I place the playlists (in .m3u format)?: /sdcard/music/playlists OR /sdcard/music/playlist1.m3u, playlist2.m3u, etc.
[2] what Android players are compatible with this format/structure (i.e., that'll pick up the playlists just fine)?

For the life of me I couldn't get any of the players besides Doubletwist to play my m3u playlists! Doubletwist worked but it was just waaayyyy to slow. I come from the iPhone and iPod where it was super easy to get your music on your device. So with that said, and this may be knowledge that most of you already know, but Im gonna post it because it may help someone.
I created a folder titled "Music" in the root section of the SD card. Opened up iTunes and found the playlist I wanted to have on my EVO. Right clicked on the playlist title (in itunes) and exported the playlist as an m3u file on my desktop. Opened the Music folder on my EVO and simply dragged and dropped the m3u file into the music folder. Then, I went back to iTunes, selected all the songs in that playlist, and dragged and dropped those songs into the Music folder on my EVO.
Disconnected the EVO after the transfer was complete and fired up Btunes. BOOM! My playlist and all corresponding songs were there! I checked Doubletwist and the playlist showed there too! So I hooked the EVO back up and transferred a bunch more playlists (about 6 gigs worth) and Btunes and DoubleTwist showed those too! So right now, Btunes and DoubleTwist (the only two I tried) work with this method. While it may not keep track of playcounts and things like that, it does work for now.

What does everyone think is the best mp3 player out there in the market? Personally I like the one that came with the phone as it is very slick, although it doesnt have great audio set up features. Also, does anyone else find that some of the songs on yoir phone can sound excessively "bassy" at times? Like it has bass boost on to the pepsi max?

II am using Fantasy Guru for my Yahoo Fantasy Football. But, does anyone know of a widget that I can use to track my players from my home screen? I just want to be able to track their stats on gameday from the home screen without opening up the app.

After setting the overclock widget to reduce the CPU when my screen is off I find the mp3 player distorts the music when I listen. I have had to increase the screen off min speed to 480000 to stop this happening. This of course means I'm not getting the battery saving bonus that setting to 112, 160 or 245 would give me. Does anyone know a better way to set the overclock widget to give me the battery saving effects without distorting music? Or perhaps an mp3 player that uses less CPU? I'm running SenseHero 2.1 b4 and using the stock HTC music player.

I should have posted this here instead of over in apps. i know the "best MP3 player" debate has been beaten to death, but i want to know whick player does the best job at randomizing your playlists? I have a large collection on my 16g card and mixzing still likes to stick to one or two albums ... the only things i need are great random (i like to shuffle all my songs and let it play) and a album cover and forward, backward, pause buttons like mixzings ..

I know the stock music player on the Incredible isn't the most robust, but I love how Last.FM can scrobble the music I play on it. Do any of the 3rd party music player apps do the same?

what music players does everyone use and how do you sync them? i think i've got a pretty good set up with my mac. I used to use the Double twist player with double twist installed on my mac to sync with iTunes. works pretty well, just wish it had landscape on the device. then i heard about WinAmp being on the android so i switched to that. better device playlist management, plus it still works with the double twist files so i can still sync with double twist on my mac.

I've been having problems with all the music / podcast applications. They close without warning and usually when I'm not even touching the thing, but has happened when I am using it. Any way I can monitor what is causing this? It's not getting hung up and needing to be forced close. Could my headphone jack just be horrible?

I tried a few different players from the market including a few that I had to use an app installer to install. So far I have had no luck playing AVI's & MVA's, does anyone know if Android 2.0 includes a universal player like VLC? If not is anyone working on a player? I understand you can convert files to MP4 & 3GP but I would rather find something that can just play the standard format my camera records in.

I am developing a game and I would like to create a leaderboard with the scores of the players. The problem is that I do not want the High score of each player, I want the sum of all the scores of the player, and I cannot find any server like scoreloop that provide me this feature.
Is there any score server that allows me to do it? I have searched a lot but I cannot find nothing.

I got the X10 2 or 3 weeks ago, previous phone was a Samsung Jet. I watch quite a few films but so far I can't get the quality. The files are mainly divx encoded but I have been converting to mpeg4 to play them in Mediascape. The video is skipping / jumping even though it is not at a super-high resolution, bitrate etc. Does anyone know what the best settings are to get video that's watchable? The Jet would play divx files no problem at all and I assumed the X10 would be at least as good...

I have a Droid Incredible, and I have music stored on both the phone and the SD card. Meridian and Cubed only read the music that's on the SD card, and while the music player that came with the phone reads both, it can't play FLAC or apple lossless files (DoubleTwist does neither). Is there any way to either reconfigure Meridian or Cubed, is there anyway to get the music player that came with the phone to play those formats, or is there some other player that reads all the data AND plays those formats.

I've been trying some music players and went through the threads we have here on the subject. I'm trying to figure out if some players will drain the battery faster than others. I've tried the TW Player, Winamp, MusicMod. I like MusicMod the best (I believe its a modification of the Froyo AOSP player) but it seems to drain the battery pretty fast. I've been using it for about 4 hours and went from 100% to 38%. What are your experiences with battery drain and music players?

As far as I understand, immersive mode can be implemented in two ways in 4.4 KitKat Feature Spotlight: Apps Can Now Go Truly Full-Screen, Hide The Navigation Bar
the user has to swipe down to bring back the navigation bar (the book readers, games example) or touch the screen (the video players example). Is there a way (even if it involves a custom rom) to make video players use the swipe down implementation? The reason I ask is that I have a toddler who I often let watch cartoons on youtube (ie while waiting for food at a restaurant...). He constantly touches buttons on the navigation bar on accident which stops the video and then I have to take the phone from him, restart the app, restart the video, and give it back. I would love to be able to use the swipe-down implementation in this scenario.

how can i make my songs (.mp3) to have recognizable characters at every android media player. Let me make clear to you that non-english characters (greek letters) at my songs are nearly unreadable at players. Media players play such songs normally but i can not read their IDE tags (for example: individual artist's name, album's name, e.t.c....) Every android file explorer can identify their name, (so windows 7 do) but not the android players ( i have tested almost every media player available in market, now i am using miui player with the same problem). I have HTC magic with CM7.2 and the problem is with greek letters in songs which they appear to me as chinese ones and therefore i am not able to make playlists, choose a specific song from my list...
