I tried E-mailing the staff of Phandroid about this, and didn't get a response about posting it on the site. However, I thought that it may be of interest to Android fans/developers looking for some viable statistics. The sales data are estimates, and we'd like feedback from developers on accuracy via our methodology.If you do have an app on the Android market place, we'd love to see how your stats compare to what we have in our data base - from what we've seen, most of our stats are within +/- 10% of actuals, but we're always looking for feedback!

The OpenAPI program enables developers to access Sony Ericsson's APIs and content from the company and content partners and build rich features and capabilities into their own applications.
Commencing with the TrackID Charts API, the program will extend to cover more innovations and content including the recently announced Creations service.
We have created a developer portal for the OpenAPI program at api.developer.sonyericsson.com. The portal provides a rich set of services for developers, including documentation, case studies, and reports on how SEMC APIs are being used in developers' applications.
To use our OpenAPIs, including the TrackID Charts API, simply:
1. Go to api.developer.sonyericsson.com and register
2. Get the API documentation you need right there on the portal
3. Follow the procedure to get up and running

I'd like to include a simple draw feature on my app. A friend told me I can't use canvas because I need to control the frame buffer and not redraw the entire screen every for every frame.He suggested I find a openGL 2d engine.I've searched around and I've only found Rokon which doesn't have any documentation and the examples aren't quite what I need.Any suggestions?

I'm in the process of making a site called droidsforlife.com (haven't purchased domain yet, and using free hosting right now) And also going to run a youtube channel located at YouTube - droidforlife's Channel.The point of this thread is to ask if anyone in the future would be interested in writing for the blog, once it gets going im sure we could create revenue, and what not.The site will have app reviews, tutorials, unboxings, and reviews of accessories.

I've searched the entire internet trying to find a way to take the pictures I've made for a Better Keyboard skin and convert them into an .apk file, but no luck.
I don't want to send them to someone to do it for me, because I like to test it every so often to see what needs to be worked on.
So if anyone could tell meskins (clock and weather) not change after selecting and applying them?,

I'm not really sure what tools I should be using to create a desired outcome...At the bottom of the screen I would like to have three buttons, something like what is at the bottom of this screen except only using text instead of icons, and only having three options, not four. Is this a tab view? I don't need a tab view because I don't need the tabs to stay on screen after one is clicked.

I would like to make a very simple Android app, with no UI. Kind of a shortcut. I tried searching the web, and I didn't find what I was looking for.
The question is: Can I make a simple app, that only launches an activity?
I want to make an app to launch the following activity : "com.cyanogenmod.trebuchet.preference.Preferences" . Kind of how the app "QuickShortcutMaker" works.

I am trying to create something similar to Blackberry Messengers "PING" function. I want certain people to be able to make my phone vibrate even if I have placed the phone on silent mode. I have tried to use Setting Profiles to do this, by creating a profile (let's call it "Profile1") that turns on notification vibrations. I also created a rule that would activate Profile1 if I received a text message from someone containing the phrase "PING".
But when I test this out, the Profile1 never activates. As I've messed around with the rule, I've also tried having the rule activate based on the receipt of any text message (i.e., leaving the "*" in the contents field), and that does not work either. Any suggestions for those of you familiar with setting profiles, or if you know of another application? I have an EVO 4G.

It seems like more and more mainstream retailers are making apps for the iPhone, whether it be Starbucks, Pizza Hut, UPS, etc. When do they start making these apps available to Android users. The Droid has sold almost 1,000,000 units in a little over a month. With several phones slated for 10' do you think that this will happen?

I'm following an example where the author hard coded a paddingTop to 370px. How do I make that paddingTop dynamic? When I run this in 2 AVDs with HVGA and WVGA80 I get the frame floating at different heights. I'd like to say something like paddingTop=80%, but that doesn't work.

I've created this set of 4 Tabs named "HOme" "COTD" "Uvtv" and "feeds" for part of the UI of my application. I now need to create a set of sub-tabs for the COTD tab, and they need to be at the bottom of the screen.
I have 8 java classes, 4 that are the tabs, 3 that are supposed to be the Subtabs for COTD, and 1 which is the main class that retrieves and displays the tabs shapes and such
My main file extend to TabActivity and Implements OnTabChangeListener,
CODE:..............
I though that maybe extending the COTD class to TabActivity would've done it, but once I ran it and clicked on the tab it would automatically shut down.
Is there any way to create, as I would say "Sub"-tabs on the COTD file? am I supposed to create another main file for the COTD tab?

I am trying to make a terminal type app that is wider than the actual android screen. A listview is great except that I don't want the text to wrap. If the text is wider than the screen I want it to print the full text and then the user can scroll over horizontally if they want to see what was printed off the screen. Just FYI this is for ascii type tables. I have followed this example:
It works great as far as horizontal text goes it does exactly what I want but I am unable to get the ListView inside the custom LinearLayout to actually scroll veritcally. I have tried passing the Y coordinates from the onScroll method to mListView such as: mListView.scrollBy(0, distanceY); but that seems to move the custom LinearLayout window instead of just scrolling the ListView. I can tell that the ListView is not scrolling because the window moves without the vertical scroll bar of the ListView moving.

I am attempting to create a wrapper class for Google Android's Text-To-Speech functionality. However, I'm having trouble finding a way to have the system pause until after the onInit function has finished. Attached at the bottom is something of a solution I created based on what I found here: http://stackoverflow.com /questions/ 1160876/android-speech-how-can-you-read-text-in-android However, this solution does not seem to work. Any thoughts on why this might not be working, or what would be a good idea in order to make sure that any Speak() calls happen after my onInit() call? public class SpeechSynth implements OnInitListener
{private TextToSpeech tts;
static final int TTS_CHECK_CODE = 0;
private int ready = 0;
private ReentrantLock waitForInitLock = new ReentrantLock();
SpeechSynth( Activity screen )
{ ready = 0;
tts = new TextToSpeech( screen, this );
waitForInitLock.lock();
public void onInit(int status)
{ if (status == TextToSpeech.SUCCESS)
{ready = 1;
} waitForInitLock.unlock();
}public int Speak( String text )
{ if( ready == 1 )
{tts.speak(text, TextToSpeech.QUEUE_ADD, null);
return 1;
} else
{ return 0;
} I have been able to make it so that I can pass a string of text through the constructor, then have it played in the onInit() function. However, I would really like to avoid having to destroy and re-create the whole text-to-speech engine every time I need to have my program say something different.

i have an EditText and a Button in my LinearLayout and i want to align them closely together so they see seem to belong together (edittext + micButton for speech input). Now they don't have the same height and they aren't really aligned well (button seems to be a little lower than the EditText). I know I can apply a negative margin like -5dip to make them come closer together, but is there perhaps a better way to do this? Set them in a specific container/layout so that they will automatically have the same height and no margin between them?
