Despite everything I have read about the difficulty of making low latency audio apps in Android, I am giving it a shot. To start, I loaded each note in an octave into a SoundPool, and then looped through each note that was to be played on that beat and called play(). This didn't even come close to being accurate enough for me, and got especially bad if a lot of notes were being played at once.
From what I read, the only way to do something like this is to mix the audio yourself, though I am not entirely sure how to go about this. My initial thought is that for each beat, I could precompute the sound the sound that is to be played (i.e., combine the wav's), and then pass that stream to an AudioTrack when it is time to be played.
Are there any good examples out there for how to mix audio like this, or libraries I could use to do this for me? How have coders of other music apps dealt with this?

It seems like more and more mainstream retailers are making apps for the iPhone, whether it be Starbucks, Pizza Hut, UPS, etc. When do they start making these apps available to Android users. The Droid has sold almost 1,000,000 units in a little over a month. With several phones slated for 10' do you think that this will happen?

I would like to do a whole backup of the phone and messages, apps, music etc.
I see that on the phone there is an option to do Auto backup to the SD card, which I have just ticked. My question on is is that..how long does it take to backup, and when does this happen? As I have had no messages to tell me if this is working.
Also, is there a way to manually backup the same data, using an app or something like that?

Is it just me or are 99% of applications are very low resolution and all the pictures look very dull and fuzzy.
The new facebook update looks crisper, so the phone cleary has the capabilities but why aren't developers making apps to the highest resolution?

i'm looking for a way to make phonecalls with my computer+Logitech G230, through my android device (Jiayu G4 Advanced)
The Remotecall app in Playstore still requires me to pick up my phone in order to actually hear something..
its got all the other features i'd like to use: answer calls from my PC, make calls from pc (from , for example, the outlook contactlist), call Log capability; but i have to pick up my phone when i probably can just hear it through my headphone (connected to PC)
I think i should be looking for some sort of voip server on my phone and let my computer act as voip client, but i'm not entirely sure about that.

I am a total newbie in Android and want to develop an application which need to make phone call using the API. I googled around and find that the open SDK didn't support making phonecalls. All the function required to make phone call have been put inside com.android.internal.telephony, which is an internal APIs.I just wonder if there is any methods or alternatives API that I can make use of.

I've pulled and compiled the latest Android tree. Now I want to make changes to the Android's Browser application.
The environment in Eclipse is already set up. I tried creating the project by selecting "Build project from existing source", but it fails to build because it uses libraries not in the SDK.
Does anyone know how to import the missing source in order to build the Browser app, or even better, how to just copy the source into a separate project and use it like I was developing a regular application?

I am trying to create something similar to Blackberry Messengers "PING" function. I want certain people to be able to make my phone vibrate even if I have placed the phone on silent mode. I have tried to use Setting Profiles to do this, by creating a profile (let's call it "Profile1") that turns on notification vibrations. I also created a rule that would activate Profile1 if I received a text message from someone containing the phrase "PING".
But when I test this out, the Profile1 never activates. As I've messed around with the rule, I've also tried having the rule activate based on the receipt of any text message (i.e., leaving the "*" in the contents field), and that does not work either. Any suggestions for those of you familiar with setting profiles, or if you know of another application? I have an EVO 4G.

I got reports from some users that after making the phone silent with my application, sometimes, text messages or emails still make sounds. I don't have a phone so this is why I am asking. The application is making the phone silent this way:
final AudioManager am = (AudioManager) context.getSystemService (Context.AUDIO_SERVICE);
am.setRingerMode(AudioManager.RINGER_MODE_SILENT);

When I make a call everyone is telling me that they are hearing a loud shrill sound but I hear nothing so I went to Verizon to get an exchange since I have the insurance. They checked my phone out and said it should be exchanged but when they tried to exchange it they said there was none in the store and none even at their warehouse and they had no idea when they would get more. I'm wondering if that is because of the new Android phones coming out.
So if I have to get another phone I want to be prepared to make a decision. Any thoughts on another Android phone? I absolutely love my Droid and hope they will be able to get more in so I can exchange mine. But if I can't I would want one just like the Droid as far as a physical keyboard and also I like the amount of memory. And I want the freedom I have with the Droid to install anything I want. It's the first phone Verizon hasn't locked down.
Anyway hopefully I can keep my Droid but as I said I just want some ideas in case they don't get any more Droids in stock. Oh one last question, I was talking to an ex Verizon employee who insisted that the Droid won't accept a 32GB card. Is this correct?

I am looking for a phone book app which will help me stop making international calls. I want to be able to selectively pick the numbers I never want to dial as I have run a huge bill by mistake. I don't want to put international barring, as I won't be able to text abroad. I just want the app to stop me from calling abroad. Does anyone know of any app or know of a workaround? I currently use Phonebook and I don't know if this is possible with this app.

Okay my best friend and myself always have to have the latest phone.
So we both got Moto droids on it's first launch but the Camera sucked horirbly... as well as the keyboard was iffy and it was too heavy
2 weeks later we got Eris...but noticed a big difference in the eris and the droid. While the dorid, in my opinion, is big and ugly and too rectangular...it's faster vs a nice looking lighter eris but i understand the processor and fragmentation of the OS and all that Jazz
So then he told me about the Pre plus and we tried it and I love the concept of the OS however I want to come back to the eris because A)lack of apps, B)Call Quality sucks on the Pre plus 3)I love Android and all it's features
Yet when i came back to the eris it's still slow even after i did some update to it(idk what the update was for as it's still on 1.5). So are there any suggestions as to what I can do about making my phone lag less(5 seconds to open an app or load messages or emails is ridiculous) and the battery is horrible but i hear I have to "train" it. I don't understand why I would have to train something to not die but idk.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and please keep the bs & rude comments to yourselves
Sorry for any typos(TYPING SUPER FAST AND I DONT FEEL LIKE SPELL CHECKING) LOLZ.

So I'm at work (I'm in the Army), and someone who recently got a Droid was asking about not being able to browse the web while in the middle of a phone call. Someone else who had an iPhone said they could do this. But the person with the Droid tested it, made a phone call and was not able to bring the browser up.

I just got my droid last week and decided to root it and try to get a little crazy with it. However I'm very new, obviously, to the droid and to linux. I just got ubuntu for my computer yesterday and already have it on there and have been working with it a little trying to get things settled. So far I'm very happy with both, but I'm also having some trouble, hence the following...
Well I'm trying to put busybox on my droid. I've got it on there but I'm having problems with making a directory on my phone, which I need to do to continue.
Anyway, what's happening is, ill put in mkdir /system/xbin and it returns "mkdir failed. Read only filesystem." This is after Ive already launched busybox. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.
