View 2 RepliesI'm about to buy a used HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1), but I'd like to know more about what MSN/WLM clients are available before I do.My ideal client would be a complete straight port of Pidgin. (I understand that porting isn't a straightforward task due to the vastly different environments.) The primary features of Pidgin that I would like to see are WLM connectivity and the ability to keep logs of every conversation locally.I've tried a number of WLM clients by downloading the apks and running them in the development emulator, but they're not suitable for a number of reasons:
- Meebo isn't suitable as my firewall is reporting that it tries to access meebo.com upon sign in. Does this mean that it acts as a thin client (and therefore I would be sending my password to this unknown company)? Also, I can't figure out if Meebo allows you to keep logs.
- Both MSN Talk and MSN Droid have adverts.
- Nimbuzz requires me to create some sort of meta-account, which I assume would allow me to sign into multiple different IM networks using only my Nimbuzz name and password. I'm not interested in anything like that. (Which rules out Trillian, if I recall.)
I want something that runs purely on the phone with no adverts: exactly like Pidgin. This rules out web based services such as Microsoft's own WLM web client and ebuddy (unless there's a native Android ebuddy WLM client that I'm not aware of).Can anybody recommend a suitable WLM/MSN app?
I recently got my moto droid phone. Anyone know how to get windows live email updates and notifications? I tried adding the pop and smtp addresses listed in this website elsewhere but to no avail.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIt's hard to believe that Android would be lacking the following features from its own creator:

Just wondering if Google mentioned they would be making one.
I'm a new HTC Desire user and was wondering if any of you could recommend the best app to use for Windows live messenger. I was going to download meebo from the market, but just before installing I read a warning that the app could prevent the phone from sleeping. Obviously this would then cause the battery to die faster, which is a concern for me. Does Meebo actually prevent the phone from sleeping? I want a decent messenger app that closes when I log out of my windows live messenger account and doesn't prevent the phone from sleeping and run down the battery.

I am hesitant to have the link sent to my phone because I don't want to receive any spam texts, etc.Right now it's faster just to go to the hotmail website and login there, although I can't view any attachments at all and never could.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI wonder if anyone is having the same issues I am with Windows Live Messenger? My company and all employees with computers or smartphones uses this as a constant communication tool.On BlackBerry it works really well. If you lose signal and re-gain it, it will auto sign back in.With the Hero, it works fine initially but then after an unknown amount of inactivity, it signs out or whatever. When this happens, it does not sign itself back in until you do it manually or soft reset.Very annoying problem since everyone at the office reminds me that my "little green man" isn't working.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed VirtualBox on top of my Gentoo Linux install. Then I opened a virtual machine that was generated for me with the VMWare.
When I plug-in my Android HTC phone it is visible in VM and it is visible in Eclipse. However when I try to run the application I see the dialog that asks to select the device to run the program on and there the phone is "offline".
The phone is connected with the "Charge Only" settings. If I use the same VM image on Windows with WMPlayer I don't have this problem.
I cant load the hotmail mobile website onto my default web browser in android 1.6. Is their a way to fix this

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to setup a perfect development and testing environment for:
1. 1st attemp
I installed Android (android-x86-4.0-RC2-eeepc.iso) on Virtualbox but run into these problems:
* No Wi-fi, but Ethernet instead (a Wired Android... duh!)
* "adb remount" not working, even with "su"
* I had to run this every time I start the device (8.8.8.8 is Google DNS)
Code:
# dhcpcd; setprope net.dns1 8.8.8.8
* Google apps not responding
2. 2nd Attemp
I used Buidroid (buildroid_vbox86p_4.0.3_r1-20120518.ova) and run into these problems:
* ALT F1 does nothing, I know I can use a terminal emulator but I like ALT F1
* I had to run this every time I start the device (8.8.8.8 is Google DNS)
Code:

my laptop has the operating system GNU/Linux (Debian Testing) and I installed Windows XP Professional on VirtualBox. Virtualized XP recognizes USB devices mounted on the host. After, I installed the drivers for my smartphone Star S7589 and it is recognized by XP.
The problem begins with Flash Tools. When I want to start the process, after giving the button "Download" and I insert the phone without battery, then VirtualBox not recognize it and It doesn't start the installation of the ROM.
How could you recognize the phone connected to USB when it's turned off?
Can Android OS that is installed on actual devices be emulated in VMWare or VirtualBox. Are there any such distros or images available?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi cant wait to get my Xperia upgraded to 2.1! i have one issue though. i only have access to a work PC with XP but no admin account (big corp, so no chance of getting it temporarily) or my housemates Mac. my girlfriend has a laptop but she wont be home until next weekend are there any non-windows/non-admin methods of upgrading?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have had DC 2.08.1 installed for about 2 weeks with no issues. I decided to go ahead and partition the SD to utilized apps2SD as I was having memory issues. That process, while not smooth, went through okay and the SD card is working with the partition and apps2SD. However, ever since that was completed, my Windows 7 box no longer recognizes the phone either as a phone or as a drive. My Linux laptop recognizes the drive without issue.
Any suggestions on how I can reintroduce my phone to the Windows box, at least as a drive?
Any suggestion for live stream for android. In my app i need to stream live video from Live Stream..Is there any api or example to do it? If so, please provide it.

I cannot get windows to install the SDK drivers instead of its preloaded disk drivers. I have tried to do a manual update from the device manager, but windows believes it knows better and says the best drivers are already installed. I also tried to shut of the automatic driver installation through the system settings but it still installs its own drivers. This is getting extremely frustrating, when i run adb it says that there is no device connected.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Evo 4G and I'm eventually trying to root it (the right way). I'm trying to install the SDK (for Windows XP) and I'm having an issue. I installed the Sun Java JRE, HTC Sync and I downloaded the SDK. I re-booted my PC, then enabled USB debugging on my Evo and plugged it in to a high speed USB port and then let Windows find the drivers. Now I did a test to make sure the SDK was installed correctly. I went to "android-sdk/tools", then opened a command prompt and entered "adb devices" to make sure that I can see the device's serial number...but I keep getting this...'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file".
I keep getting this error message even after I prompt to the tools directory. I tried re-installing drivers, I tried deleting and re-installing all software and nothing seems to do the trick. I still keep getting "...is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file".
I want to modify the usb_windows.c in /system/core/adb and recompile a new adb.exe to test our platform. but, when i use "make HOST_OS=windows", it failed. i use ubuntu 8.04 and i can build with "make HOST_OS=linux". does anyone know how to build my adb.exe?

View 7 Replies View RelatedLooking to do iphone, android, and possibly windows phone development on a Mac Pro. What are the pluses and minuses of using a Mac Pro and a dual boot. Unlike most, Windows 7 will be the primary OS since most supporting software will be done with Visual Studio 08/10 over the next year. I have found driver issues from a few years ago. Do any of these issues still exist?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I start setup I get this message: XML verification failed for http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/repository.xml. Error: cvc-elt.1: Cannot find the declaration of element 'sdk:sdk-repository'.Failed to fetch URL reason: Unknown
Even when I force the download to use http nothing happens. I get no downloads etc for the SDK.
The short version of my issue at hand.
Windows 7 Professional x64
Java JDK 1.6.0_17 x64
Eclipse Galileo wADT Plugin installed
Android SDKtools r04
Since the Android SDK download now only includes the tools, you have to run the included SDK Manager application (SDK Setup) through which you can download the platforms, additional tools, docs, etc.
Under my current configuration SDK Setup bombs on launch, so, I can't do anything since I do not have a single platform to start writing against...I've read a few places that the fix is "just install the 32 bit JDK and all will be well" that seems surprising and disappointing option for a work around(downloading it now to try).
My question is this, anyone else run into this same issue and how did you get past it? Is there a place I can "download by hand" the components I need that I missed on the Android SDK site?
Odds are pretty good that the 32 bit "fix" will work, but that seems wrong that I'll have to install a secondary version of the same SDK/JRE just to run this tool and to download the actual Android SDK components
UPDATE: Well, the work around that requires you to also install 32 bit java and referencing that as your JAVA_HOME worked, either by calling the SDK setup manually or through eclipse. I'm not particularly happy with that, so I'll leave this one open for the time being in case there are other ways to get this done that people may know about.
UPDATE 2: Not directly related since it is Linux centric, but there are troubleshooting steps if trying to run the SDK/Eclipse under Linux 64bit where they reference the need to be able to run 32 bit, but nothing similar under windows x64
FINAL UPDATE (?) Taking the info Seth's answer gave me, and running the bat manually(once I knew what file SDK Setup was running) the answer for me was simply adding ANDROID_SWT path variable that pointed to a valid location with the x86_64 swt.jar....the android sdk directory had one, seemingly in the right place, but it couldn't find it until I added that to my path.
