Android :: Home Replacements Similar To DxTop?
May 12, 2010
i've been using dxTop pretty much since i got my Droid, but it's starting to fall behind in aesthetics, performance, and features.the thing is the single-swipe access to each home screen is such a great feature i can't bring myself to use other home replacements. are there any other, better supported home replacements that replicate single-swipe access to at least 4 home screens? can sweeter home do this?

There's nothing wrong with downloading the file of a paid app and installing it on your phone, right? Because I did that for a few. Also, what's everyone's opinion on Open Home vs. DxTop?

I like switching between the stock home and Launcher Pro and ADW. Since the 2.2 update, when I use a home switcher to use one of the replacements, my phone defaults back to the stock home screen when I hit the hardware home button on the bottom of my Moto Droid. Is there a setting I am missing to change this. Even when I select the replacement as "default" using the Home Switcher, it still reverts back to the stock one when I hit that home button.

Because, unlike some, I actually like the HTC widgets that come with the phone and home replacements don't allow HTC widgets. Any others with me?

Are you planning on dumping your home replacement when 2.2 Froyo comes out? Or will you still use them on top of Froyo?I've gotten so used to the Home ++ bar at the bottom I don't know if I could get rid of it.

I'm having some serious indecision. I have a Moto Droid running 2.1. I have DxTop installed and love it However, I find that screens space is becoming a little cramped, and the expanding it to a 5 screen set up basically gets rid of the functionality that attracted me to DxTop in the first place (the quick navigation diamond shaped desk top set up).Yesterday I decided to test drive HelixLauncher2. I found the program to give me much of the functionality I had lost with DxTop, as my widget use increased. Instead of 5 screen ins a cross set up, now I have 7 screens side by side, but with a quick jump that allows me to go from one to any other in one move. Right off the bat I was able to organize my widgets and shortcuts in a way that made more sense. The program also added the really cool 2.1 app drawer from the Nexus 1, which I enjoy. The downside is that screen rotation doesn't seem as responsive as in DxTop (it works but has lag), the App drawer cannot be organized by categories (it's only alphabetical), and the program (though smaller an leaner) is not perfectly stable (It has already closed on me once, but when it crashes it just reverts back to itself). So my question is, should I stay with DxTop which is no longer as functional as I would like, but is far more stable and responsive, and allows me to organize my app drawer by categories; or should I go with HelixLauncher2, which is much more configurable, is easy to navigate, demands less of my system, but is also not as stable, lags a little, and does not allow me to organize my apps in the drawer. What I wouldn't give for a snappy and stable version of HelixLauncher2 with an option to organize the app drawer.

I have the Droid, Android's just released 2.1, and I downloaded dxtop, which in itself seems to work fine.
However, when I install dxtop themes, they seem to download and install OK from the Market screens and the pulldown status bar, but when I go to install them they are nowhere to be found.
The documentation I have found, even by dxtop itself, is nebulous about (finding and) installing the themes.

DXTOP crashed on me, I dont know why, because when I turned the phone off it was fine! However, it gives me a black screen when i turn the phone on and says "if your seeing this message DXTOP did not shut down gracefully" It also gives me the following 3 options:
1-Continue using DXTOP
2-Send diagnostic log and launch DXTOP
3-Launch default home interface
None of the 3 option will boot the phone up, they all go to an error message saying DXTOP stopped unexpectedly! I also tried removing the battery, sim and memory cards, plugging them back in and turning the phone off and I get the same problem.

Does anyone know of a good replacement for HTC Sense UI that can be run on the 2.1 v3 leak? I currently have beautiful widgets and I would like to keep them which is something that I don't think I can do with aHome lite.

I realize this is all information that can be searched and found, but I thought it would be nice to have something centralized.A lot of the default apps that come on the Droid well suck. I'd love to hear everyone's opinion on which apps to replace with what, and why.

So about 2 weeks ago I was sent a replacement evo from Sprint customer service. In the replacement order it said a9292 replacement phone. Well to make a long story short it ended up going to a wrong address and a new order was made... this time though the order details shows a "phone kit" was sent. Well I got it today and it is a brand new in retail package complete with charger and manuals. Am I lucky or is this normal?

I love Friendstream. I like being able to view my Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr all in one place. But it seems to eat up all my batter power. After I stopped using it my battery lasted a lot longer. Are there any other good battery friendly replacements for Friendstream?

I've seen lots of comments about the default font that comes on the Captivate, and many have said they are using 3rd party fonts as replacements. Which one does everyone seem to think is the best, for readability (is that even a word?)?

On the car dock the "Car Home" was default to the home key on the Droid. If I backed out of Car Home to get to an app or something, I would just touch the Home key and it would get me back to car home.

I am currently using Gtasks and I like being able to add a task that will allow an audible alert but lately for some reason the program has been buggy and its starting to frustrate me. I was wondering if anyone knows of an app that will do something similar All I want something that has a widget so I can see upcoming events or tasks and it must also be able to alert me audibly - the built in calendar on my Captivate is terrible. A calendar type app would be fine as well. I saw this in the market Pure Calendar Widget - anyone out there that can recommend this app? I would appreciate any info on an app I should try.

I used to have sense but rooted and went to a senseless ROM. The only thing I liked about sense was Facebook for HTC Sense. Every app I have found to sync facebook profiles only does the pictures. Is there an app that will sync birthdays to the calendar and pictures to my contacts, and allow me to choose which syncs where? I have some friends with Facebook names that I do NOT want to be as my phone contacts.

I am planning to purchase a DroidX on launch day and am switching from a BB Storm2. There are a few apps that I love on my Storm2 that I would like to have on the new phone. Wondering if you guys (and gals) can point me towards similar apps for the Android platform. 1. BerryBuzz - Customizes LED light for different notifications (I.E. can set light to Orange for SMS, Disco light for missed calls, etc.) 2. BerryWeather - Awesome weather app 3. Later Dude - Can set a reminder (calendar, task, call, e-mail, etc.) based on an incoming message/phone call 4. Pocket Informant - Great PIM app.

With the news of such apps such as astrid (sharing data without using user notification), I just want to know if everyone who has/had astrid has decided uninstall or keep astrid? Is it advisable to uninstall this app now after this news?
Like many other users, I found this a really useful app, and if it means having to uninstall can anyone else a similar app to astrid?
