Samsung Behold 2 :: Dxtop Crash And Can't Shut Down
Apr 18, 2010
DXTOP crashed on me, I dont know why, because when I turned the phone off it was fine! However, it gives me a black screen when i turn the phone on and says "if your seeing this message DXTOP did not shut down gracefully" It also gives me the following 3 options:
1-Continue using DXTOP
2-Send diagnostic log and launch DXTOP
3-Launch default home interface
None of the 3 option will boot the phone up, they all go to an error message saying DXTOP stopped unexpectedly! I also tried removing the battery, sim and memory cards, plugging them back in and turning the phone off and I get the same problem.

There's nothing wrong with downloading the file of a paid app and installing it on your phone, right? Because I did that for a few. Also, what's everyone's opinion on Open Home vs. DxTop?

Alright whats up people I was recently searching through and through for a way to get mobile internet without paying that ridiculous android price so as I was searching I stumbled across a regular behold forum at Samsung Behold Forum - New Proxy (TMobileX (Free Internet!)) - UPDATE: Analysis 01.07.10 -> 1500 Users because someone said free internet for it and I gave it a run to see if it would work with our behold 2 and surely enough it does.
Instructions on how to use proxy:
Open up the (default) browser on your Samsung Behold.
Type in the following address into the : tmo-x.co.cc/tmobilex/
Type in the address you want to visit in the form on the page and select whether or not you want to use my HTML trick (free; allows you to see sites in full HTML not 'WAP-stripped').

After many attempts to try and use the terminal emulator that is already preloaded onto the behold 2 , and many failures..After trying out different Terminal Em.'s and always having my phone lag because they wernt made for it...i have finally found a way to get terminal emulator working with no lag or no slow down in performance... First you must have root,of course, Next, Use an app called root explorer or something similar and goto the folder /system/app/ and find the two files Term.apk and Term.odex, and MOVE them to your sd card from your phone, you want them gone from your system/app folder After that simply goto the market and search for Terminal Emulator , re-download and there you have it, Working term. em. on the behold 2.Peace Ladz.

I have just recently bought a Behold 2 with the price drop. I like the phone except that it is very slow.
So i would like to root it and run a factory1.6 no twiz rom on it, but I'm having issues while doing it!....
I was succesfully able to get adb to detect my phone serial. but whenever I type in: adb shell /data/local/try3 /system/bin/sh
in the CMD, it returns with "permission denied"

I'm having some serious indecision. I have a Moto Droid running 2.1. I have DxTop installed and love it However, I find that screens space is becoming a little cramped, and the expanding it to a 5 screen set up basically gets rid of the functionality that attracted me to DxTop in the first place (the quick navigation diamond shaped desk top set up).Yesterday I decided to test drive HelixLauncher2. I found the program to give me much of the functionality I had lost with DxTop, as my widget use increased. Instead of 5 screen ins a cross set up, now I have 7 screens side by side, but with a quick jump that allows me to go from one to any other in one move. Right off the bat I was able to organize my widgets and shortcuts in a way that made more sense. The program also added the really cool 2.1 app drawer from the Nexus 1, which I enjoy. The downside is that screen rotation doesn't seem as responsive as in DxTop (it works but has lag), the App drawer cannot be organized by categories (it's only alphabetical), and the program (though smaller an leaner) is not perfectly stable (It has already closed on me once, but when it crashes it just reverts back to itself). So my question is, should I stay with DxTop which is no longer as functional as I would like, but is far more stable and responsive, and allows me to organize my app drawer by categories; or should I go with HelixLauncher2, which is much more configurable, is easy to navigate, demands less of my system, but is also not as stable, lags a little, and does not allow me to organize my apps in the drawer. What I wouldn't give for a snappy and stable version of HelixLauncher2 with an option to organize the app drawer.

This phone has the WORST idea for an sd slot. When trying to take out my sd card, i took off the cover that holds the sd card.I could use some pictures on how its supposed to look when connected. I have been trying to put it back on and all I ended up doing was bending it.I got my hands on an HTC Leo Windows mobile 6.5. Best implementation of an SD card slot ever.

I have the Droid, Android's just released 2.1, and I downloaded dxtop, which in itself seems to work fine.
However, when I install dxtop themes, they seem to download and install OK from the Market screens and the pulldown status bar, but when I go to install them they are nowhere to be found.
The documentation I have found, even by dxtop itself, is nebulous about (finding and) installing the themes.

i've been using dxTop pretty much since i got my Droid, but it's starting to fall behind in aesthetics, performance, and features.the thing is the single-swipe access to each home screen is such a great feature i can't bring myself to use other home replacements. are there any other, better supported home replacements that replicate single-swipe access to at least 4 home screens? can sweeter home do this?

Looks like samsung is getting tired of all the tweets asking about android updates for the behold 2 they just posted this on the samsung mobile twitter page:"Samsung Behold II users: At this time, we don't have information on an Android update for the Samsung Behold II.If we receive information on an update for the Behold II, we will be sure to keep everyone posted.
this was posted by samsung and is NOT in response to a question, they're just "keeping us posted." guess they are sick of us asking all the time, well...just give us a godd**n update then Sammy!!!!!

G1 and my Behold 2 her phone had good reception and the behold had nearly none. Half the time I don't get phone calls. They go straight to VM. My roommate's BB pearl gets double the reception mine does. My other roommate's Nokia gets even better reception. All on the T-mo network. Another friend who has a G1 same thing, he has reception I don't. Not to mention the other problems I have had. This is my 3rd Behold II by the way. Been replaced twice and back to Samsung for 3 weeks once.

What possible reason could there be for you to code your apps so that they switch on in the background when the phone is turned on and use up precious battery life?
Or, why would you code your apps to stay on after I, the user, have hit the back button because I no longer want your app to run?
I mean, REALLY! Yes, I own up to being a newbie Android user, and what I don't know could fill the Library of Congress. Still, this is common sense we're talking about here. I've done some industrial app development and Enter/Exit, On/Off are basic pieces of logic in the main loop of an program in any language.
The only reason that we phone users need task killer apps is because you developers insist on creating apps that don't know when the f**k to turn themselves off.
And, it seems to me like you, the app developers, are one of the main reason why these phones have such crappy battery life. I mean, my Samsung Instinct, as bad as it was, got 18 to 24 hours of life off of one charge. With the Hero, I'm lucky if I can get 10 hours, and that's even with configuring my email download to only three times per day!
This is not hard, people. You code the app to stay off until, I, the user, manually turn it on. AND, you also code it to turn off when I, the user, hit the back button.
Yes, I understand that there are certain apps that it is advantageous to keep running in the background. So, fine, make it so those keep running. BUT, there is no possible reason for apps like Flashlight, or BBC News, or Camera, or SprintTV to have to run all the time in the background!
I am so tempted to just trash the lot of you. If I did, maybe I might not have as much functionality, but my teenager would be able to reach me late in the day because my phone battery would still have juice.

Does the virtual keyboard on the Moment have bigger keys than the HTC Hero? I ask this because looking at the display for the moment it appears to be wider than that of the Hero. Also, does the screen shut off when not in use? I have heard people say this as well as their face hits stuff on the screen when they are talking on it.

I just traded my Palm Pre for a Samsung Moment today (made the deal off of Craigs List). The phone worked great all afternoon after I got it but 30 minutes ago I pulled it out to enter something into my calendar and it was off. I tried to turn it on but it seems dead. The battery has at least 40% remaining last time I looked and it is charging right now just in case. Anybody else have this happen? Is there some special way to turn this on that I don't know about? I held down the hang up button to turn it on and it is not working.Any ideas? (The Sprint rep at the store where I swapped with the other person said the warranty sticks to where ever the ESID is active - meaning on my account so I do have the warranty for it).

When I try to close out of my music player, the only way to fully shut it off is to go into the task manager and close it out there. Does anyone know of another way to do this?

I cant get my music player to shut down. This happens periodically and it gets really annoying (and embarrassing when Im in class). I searched and read the only way to shut it down is to use the exit/return at the full screen music player and then go to your app killer. Even if I follow these steps and then unplug my headphones the music player will usually 'turn back on' and start playing music at full blast out of my speaker..How can I kill this thing once and for good? btw im using advanced task killer.

Bought the Captivate on launch day. I had problems with the battery, phone restarting by itself, buttons at the bottom would not register when pushed. Took that Captivate back yesterday and exchanged it for a new one. The new one I got works much better. Little to no lag, buttons are working properly, and the battery is much better. Used it until about 3% of battery was left then put the charger in. Fully charged by midnight, unplugged it and went to sleep. Woke up this morning to find out the phone shut itself off last night. I woke up and tried to check my emails but the screen would not turn on. Held the power button and the phone turned on as if it was just starting it up. I bought my phone from a authorized AT&T reseller so I'm hoping they'll let me exchange it for another one again.
I called Samsung tech support but they weren't much of a help. They said I can send it in for repair or take it back to where I got it for another exchange. My phone is not rooted and not tampered with in anyway. I downloaded all the same apps for it which were only about 6 so far. The only new one I did download was one of those Sense Digital Clock ones and put the widget on my home screen. Other than that the phone is set up just like my previous one. I deleted the Sense Digital Clock app so maybe that was the culprit? I really do not want to take this one back again as the one shut down is the only problem. I'm going to wait a couple days to see what happens. My 30 days are up on the 17th so if it keeps on shutting down I'm taking this one back.

when you put the phone up to your face while talking i know it has the sensor that shuts off the screen, my question is does anyone else seem like it hesistates a while after you take the phone off your ear? If i call a number that requires me to enter numbers it seems like it takes a good 3 or 4 seconds for the screen to turn back on. I know it doesnt seem like a lot but some of these calls if you dont enter the number right away they start asking questions over then i do hit a number and its the wrong one so its a pain in the a$$. I came from a palm pre which was virtually instantaneous once i took the phone off my ear. So i guess im wondering if this is a problem with just my phone or all moments and is there a fix for it?
