Android :: Downloaded Applications Bigger Than What It Says On Android Market

Aug 5, 2010

Why do android applications double in size once you download them?

For example... in the Android market - Documents to Go says the application is only 3.59mb BUT once I download it and look under Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications to see what real size it is the application jumps to 8.05mb!

It seems like every single application is doing this. Why are these applications bigger than they actually are?

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: Downloaded Applications From Market But Cannot See Their Icons

Nov 29, 2010

Android :: Android Market / Applications Can Be Downloaded Without Publishing?

Apr 27, 2009

Suppose you upload a paid app and you want to test if it works correctly when downloaded from Android Market - do you pay for it? Are your own apps free to you? And to download it from the market, do you have to make it visible to the whole world? I tried to upload an app, the uploader accepts it, but when I try to download it from the phone it says "package file was not signed correctly".

It's unacceptable that the uploader checks to see if a file is signed, but it somehow performs *Different* tests than what the phone actually does when it downloads apps. I hope I can debug this further without having to publish my app to test it and make my app momentarily visible to everybody.

Android :: Best Practices For Developing Bigger Applications On Android

Nov 24, 2010

I've already written some small Android Applications, most of them in one Activity and nearly no data that should be persistent on the device.

Now I'm writing an application that needs more Activities and I'm a bit puzzled about how to organize all this. My app will download some data parse it show it to the user and then show other activities depending on the data and the user interaction. Some of that data could be cached, some of it has to be downloaded every time. Some of that data should not be downloaded freshly at the moment the orientation changes, but it should on the moment the activity is created...

Another thing I'm confused about are things like a httpClient. I now for example create a new httpclient for every activity, the same thing for locationlisteners.

Are there books, a blogs or documentations with patterns, examples and advice on organizing larger apps build on android? Everything I found until now are get startet tutorials leaving me alone after 60 lines of code...

Android :: No Sound With Downloaded Applications

Oct 17, 2009

I need some tech help please. I have checked the settings on my phone the volume is up for everything (i.e. ringer, notifications, media) The ringer works. The sounds work. But when I try to open a downloaded application from the market, it wont play the sound. One of the examples of this: I downloaded a silly piano application, and it wont play sound, but it will vibrate. That is one of many apps without sound. What do I do?

Android :: Is There Way For App Whether It Has Downloaded From Market?

Apr 6, 2009

Is there a way for an application to know whether it has been downloaded from Market? I'm thinking of distributing an application through Android Market as well as through a private web site, that contains both a free basic version and a paid Pro version. For simplicity of maintenance, I would like to distribute the exactly same apk both through Market and on my web site. After the user has downloaded the free basic application, and they want to upgrade to the Pro version, they should be presented one of the following: A) Present a link to Market to pay for and download a license apk to unlock Pro features. - or - B) Present a link to our homepage to purchase a license key to unlock Pro features. If the free basic application had been downloaded from Market, the user should be presented option A, otherwise they should be presented option B. Does anyone see a way how to achieve this?

Android :: Getting List Of Market-downloaded Apps

Feb 3, 2010

Does anyone know if there's a way to retrieve a list of apps currently installed on the phone?Perhaps through an Android service, or system content provider? And once this list is retrieved, is there a way to filter down the list to only apps that have been downloaded via the market? I suppose another way to phrase that last question is:Can my app access the Downloads list that's in the Android Market app?

Android :: Detect When App Downloaded From Droid Market?

Jun 12, 2009

I have an Android library that uploads data to a test server and production server. I'd like developers using this library to use the test server when developing, and production server when the app is downloaded from Android Market.

Is this possible for an app to tell where it came from (Market or non-Market?) I would imagine one could detect the presence of the signed JAR file.

When I upload the theme to the android market and then its downloaded from the market and installed it installs as a .zip file instead of an .apk file. I have several other themes that are working fine. I have tried rebuilding it from scratch and the issue is still there. I have attached the android manifest.xml for reference.

My Hero is going haywire. I was trying to download some apps from the market today and they don't want to start. So I rebooted my phone to see if it made any difference. Now when it starts up I get error messages that the com.android.phone and a few others are not working and have to force a close. I have no service either. All the installed apps and components are working but not phone itself. I am with Cellular South in Mississippi and my wife has a Hero also which is working normally so I know it's not a network issue.

Samsung Galaxy S :: Unable To See Downloaded / Installed Applications

Sep 13, 2010

I'm a newbie on smartfones and had spent a few days adding useful apps to my Galaxy S. File management and, file transfer applications to wireless link to my laptop followed by the transfer of all my work presentations (powerpoint) and lecture notes. All worked fine until today. Now, my device seems to have lost all the downloaded and installed apps (leaving gaps on the desktop). It has also discarded the image I had chosen for my screen background, and I can't see an icon to go to the Android store. Finally: on one of the screens I have the message "Problem loading widget". That might be connected to the problem that Android Market has completely disappeared. How do I get that back!! It's important. My transferred files are still sitting in folders in DCIM so that's good. but none of the special applications are visible. Can someone give an opinion on this. Has something taken place online with Samsung that has put my system back to its out-of-box state.

General :: Music Downloaded From Market Not Showing Up In PowerAMP

Nov 18, 2011

I can purchase music in the new Market tab, but even when it shows up as purchased I can't find it in PowerAMP. I don't want to use Google's music app because it's sorely lacking in comparison, and I'm really hoping it's not downloading to the "cloud" or whatever because I want it on my phone. I also don't want to have to sync my music every single time I buy something, or have music syncing on all the time because that would drain my battery faster.

I would think it would work like an app - you buy, it downloads. That seems logical. But it doesn't seem to be working like that.
