View 3 RepliesI've googled stuff about any IDE or at least an app for android that would be able to compile, but then I ended up with nothing. I've heard Surface Pro would support Visual Studio, so I thought, wouldn't the Android be able to handle that too? I would go for the Surface Pro but rumor has it that the starting price would be $900, and that hurts my pocket. Are there any Android apps or hacks that would enable me to compile even the simplest console applications? I was thinking of getting a tablet instead of a laptop for my programming classes.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd like to set up Android SDK with Netbeans or Visual Studio 2010. I am coming back to Windows programming after 3 months on Apple iMac (for iPhone programming).Would somebody be able to explain how to set up the NetBeans environment so I can compile and test Android Apps directly form NetBeans.I will be testing on a simulator, not a real device. My platform is Windows 7 Ultimate. It seems I can't use Eclipse even if I wanted to. It can't find the Java VM DLL.

If so how would you set the android SDK instead of .NET framework and are there any special settings or configuration?
I JUST saw a commercial for the X and they advertised it 07.2010 versus the 07.15.2010. What the hell does this mean?
View 17 Replies View RelatedDuring the Q & A for the N1 phone, they said that in a future release Android will natively support apps installed to the SD card! I know this has been a matter of importance to many of us, so I was glad to hear it was in the works. Hopefully in 2.2 or 2.1.1, sometime this year?!

I have always programmed in C++, Matlab, Javascript. I do not have so much experience in programming Java.
I have been gone for awhile with life stuff, sorry this wasn't updated. I wont be updating this as I don't have an Eris anymore, but if you want the best info head over to XDA Eris Android Development section. Or if your looking for Android News or other tech news head over to: Hope to see you all in the Incredible or Droid X section. Remember.... ?Never take a person's dignity: it is worth everything to them, and nothing to you.? 2.1 LEAKS & RELEASES & ROOT
I think it's getting confusing w/ all these releases. Let's summarize:Original root: Filename PB00IMG.zip. An "unofficial official" ROM that provides you with initial root. Can only be flashed from a phone running 1.5. Not to be confused with any of the "unofficial official" 2.1 leaks that don't have root.
2.1 leak: Filename PB00IMG.zip. Also an "unofficial official" ROM that upgrades your 1.5 phone to a 2.1 un-rooted OS. New 2.1 leak: Filename PB00IMG.zip. Another "unofficial official" ROM that upgrades your 1.2 or "2.1 leak" phone to the most recently available un-rooted version of Android 2.1.
** By "unofficial official" I mean that the ROM's are signed by HTC and must be installed from the phone's bootloader. We cannot edit and repack files to be loaded using the phone's stock bootloader, as we cannot sign these ROM's ourselves...........
Since I don't know (and I don't think anyone does) when the next version of the Android Developer Phone that will support Android 2.x be available, can I use the following unlocked Android phone available on Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Milestone-Unlocked-International-Warranty/dp/B0030G6HRQ/ref=sr_1_23?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1277232350&sr=8-23
To test my Android apps (that is after testing on simulators).
I'm planning to become android developer w/ Android 2.1 SDK For some reason I like to AT&T network. Since Motorola backflip is the only phone available on AT&T and reading recent reports that it only allows apps to be downloaded from Android Marketplace
I've a basic yet very important question:
Is it possible for a developer to write an app and upload to the device? If so my next doubt is how would I upgrade the OS from Android 1.5 to Android 2.1 on my backflip device?
I am developing my first Android App. I have an application already running on emulator (Eclipse + Android dev. tools) on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx - released in April 2010. I have already tryied the steps provided on Android Developers Portal on this link, but whenever I try to list my already connected device using ./adb devices
I get the following:
mmaia@mmaia-desktop:~/tools/android-sdk-linux_86/tools$ ./adb devices
List of devices attached
? no permissions
I have checked and when I run the virtual emulator the same command returns:
List of devices attached
? no permissions
emulator-5554 device
Also when I ask eclipse to run the emulator it finds the device(galaxy 5), see image below, but can't find serial, probably because of some permission, than I am only able to choose the virtual emulator.
How do I configure permission to use Galaxy 5 as a device while developing for Android under Ubuntu 10.04?
I want to test my android app on a phone. I do not have an android phone so I was going to purchase one. Question, I can get a phone on eBay etc without a contract will this work to test my app? Or must it be an unlocked or rooted phone? Can I install and test my apps on a phone that has not been unlocked and does not nave a contract?

The "best/easy to understand" "resource/tutorials/guides/book" wins the answer!
I'm really trying not be subjective here. Most guides I came up with on forums, etc., date back to 2007/2008 so I guess I want something more recent. (Some of them are reeeeeally outdated).

I have tried rebooting PC and rebooting device several times.I'm running Avast AntiTheft which has an option to prevent USB debugging, but that one is disabled.
I am about to start developing an android app and need to get an IDE. Eclipse and the android eclipse plugin appears to be the natural choice. However I am familiar with intelliJ and re-sharper so I would prefer use intelliJ.

Should I just bite the bullet and learn Eclipse?
I've done a few searches yesterday on the forum concerning an issue I'm having with the installation process of the Samsung New Pc Studio for my Samsung i7500. After I wish to upgrade my firmware from 1.5 to 1.6 or higher if possible. (Is it possible to upgrade to Froyo 2.2 ?) I have downloaded the following file from Samsung's web site to install the New Pc Studio: New_PC_Studio_1.5.1.10064_2.exe which seems to be a recent file (2010). At the end of the extraction the installation process begins and shows me this nice error message: PC Studio Issue Error Message on Twitpic. Whatever I press YES, NO or CANCEL, it cancels the installation process.

The 'new pc studio' software which is included sees the i7500 but says it is a not recognized device must be a usb driver missing. Hope samsung new studio software wil accept android phones soon, Kinda stupid to include a software cd which doesnt work with the included phone. Also transfering mp3's through the phone in solid disk option crashes all the time.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo what happens when a service provider (i.e. Verizon) feverishly releases multiple Android-powered devices without the resources or competence to properly support them?
How can an organization of their size and depth not conduct the due diligence to realize that marketing, selling, and supporting Android devices is not the same as selling new BlackBerry 8330s?
If we, as Android owners, were content with the shit OS that RIM offers, we would all be punching away on archaic devices with no HTML support.
Instead, we're punching away on state-of-the-art devices with no vendor support. I am not sure which is worse.
I predict a brewing storm for Verizon and, for that matter, Sprint and others who lackadaisically and sluggishly provide software and hardware support for these devices. Many Android devices are running 1GHz processors because we end users are not inherently patient and we like snappiness. Too bad the snappiness only exists in our phones.
Does anyone know of any applications that would easily allow me to follow the Masters? I looked for some golf apps and there didn't look like there was anything useful. I have SportsTap, but am unsure how good that will work out.
