HTC Incredible :: Bypassing Activation Screen With No Service Available

Jun 22, 2010

I'm a soldier stationed in Afghanistan and I received an INC in the mail today that I ordered a week ago. Charged the battery, powered it on and discovered that it requires service activation in order to use it. I ordered it to use the WI FI capability here until I reactivate my Verizon service when I get home this fall.

I have read several threads in different forums discussing procedures to bypass the activation screen and I've tried them all. Tapping the corners in a clockwise motion or canceling the (*228) activation call and rebooting 3 times. I even contacted Verison and HTC technical support and they couldn't figure it out either. They think it's because I have no cell phone service here so cancelling the activation call method doesn't work.

Does anyone know how to bypass the activation screen from the ##778 command on the emergency dialer. I have read where it's possible to bypass using the A-KEY command.

Android :: Creating A Service That Survives Application That Started It?

Nov 10, 2010

I'm developing an Android application that consists of:

a lightweight background service that logs events to a DB
a heavier GUI application that summarizes these events and displays graphs.

I'm having trouble creating the service part, though. The graphic application can use quite some RAM, and when it goes to the background, the OS closes it after some time of not being used.

The problem is, when the application gets shut down, so does the service. This is bad because this keeps me from recording further events. I don't care if the application gets terminated, but the service needs to keep on running.

I have tried numerous ways to keep the service alive, like having it use threads or a differently named process than the main app. Nothing has worked, and I have found no help on any of the android developer pages or forums.

Android :: Keep Broadcast Receiver Process Alive / By Creating Service That Stays Around?

Sep 16, 2009

The app widget documentation indicates that the "widget provider"being a receiver of a broadcast service may not exist (the process) beyond the completion of the call.If I want to maintain state between two broadcast events, such as say widgetProvider.onUpdate(), can I start a local service and leave it hanging there until my widgets are disabled? If I didn't explicitly stop that service will it be loaded again and resumed when the device wakes up.

Android :: Creating An Android Service That Cannot Be Killed

Sep 10, 2010

I am trying to write an app that cannot be killed by a user or another application. I understand this goes against what Android has designed for its platform, this is more of a proof of concept. The plan is two have two apps, app1 and app2. When app1 starts it will start app2 and then bind onto app2, when app2 starts it will make sure app1 is started if not, then start it and bind onto app1. The point of app1 binding on app2 and app2 binding on app1 is so when one of them gets killed a method will be called that the binding has been disconnected and the app can then be restarted. I currently have the apps starting each other when they start up but I cannot seem to get them to restart when I force close one of them.

For App1 service I have and app2 very similar:

CODE:..............

And for my class that implements ServiceConnection I have:

CODE:............

I think the issue I am having is that onServiceDisconnected never gets called when app1 or app2 is killed. I think this may be because I am not correctly binding to a service.

W/JavaBinder( 884): ibinderForJavaObject: 0x436274a0 is not a Binder object
W/JavaBinder( 891): ibinderForJavaObject: 0x43621d30 is not a Binder object

How can I bind services together so when one gets force closed that I will get a notice on the other?

Android :: Phone Registered As A Bluetooth HID Service

Apr 12, 2010

I'm trying to register the phone as a HID device through bluetooth. So far I did the following - Created a BluetoothServerSocket with bluetoothAdapter.listenUsingRfcommWithServiceRecord("Any name", "00001124-0000-1000-8000-00805f9b34fb"). The UUID is the standard one for HID devices. - Paired the phone with a Windows PC - The phone is recognized as "Bluetooth HID device, but I get the error "Device driver software was not successfully installed"

Does anyone know what steps can be taken next to make it work? I think I should register a SDP service record, but I'm not sure if Android Bluetooth API has support for this.

Android :: Google Dev Phone G1 Activation

Feb 18, 2009

I've got the Google dev phone from USA and I'm trying to activate it on Telenor in Norway. I've tried a whole bunch of different APN settings but nothing seems to be working. After filling in my username and password it tries to connect to google servers for activation a couple of minutes before it reports an error "There is a problem communicating with the Google servers." I've tried to delete all APNs and adding a new one. The settings I'm using now is: Name: telenor APN: telenor MCC: 242 MNC: 01 The rest is unset. I've also tried with username/password "dj/dj" and "wap/wap". And also changing the APN value to "internet".

Android :: G1 Freeze At Activation Screen

Mar 10, 2010

I've been looking for someone with a similar problem but I haven't found anything yet. My phone boots up OK then it goes to the activation screen but after a couple of seconds (10 - 30, seems random) the phone hangs. When it's at the activation screen it seem to connect to the cell service (Fido) but R in the status bar would indicates that it's roaming (clue?). I have to take out the battery to reboot. It's a T-Mobile G1 that I'm trying to get working with Fido (Canada). It's a phone I bought used (activated but locked) but then I reseted it to factory default which deactivated it. I unlocked it. I tried to activate it through wifi. Followed the instruction and downgraded it to rc29. I've tried different rc, different roms, same thing.

Android :: Process Of App's Activation - Copy Protection Of Market?

May 25, 2010

For example, firstly download the app "ABC", "Open" button and "Uninstall" button will be displayed at the bottom of the screen when the installing is completed. Secondly, activate "ABC" by tapping this "Open", and tap HOME key when the app is running. After that, restart the same app from the Launcher on the Home screen, and finish the restarted one from BACK key. Then, despite having closed the restarted one, the same app is displayed. (I forecast the cause, it is maybe the multiple activation of the app.)

Q1. Is it the problem as the specific of Android Market that multiple activation occurs when the app is activated with above process? If it's no problem, is the cause the app "ABC" which I downloaded? Q2. Is there any way to avoid the multiple activation in designing of apps?

HTC Incredible :: Bypass The Activation Screen

Nov 14, 2010

I honestly thought that activation was a skippable step, but apparently it's not. So, does anyone know how to do this on a Droid Incredible with the latest OTA? Anyone got a contact at Verizon they could ask? I just want to use it for wifi and games.

Ok, so why would I want/need to do this? Simple, I'm deployed to Iraq and my cell phone service is on a military suspense. I did a reset after the last update, and now cannot use the device until it's activated, or I find a way to bypass the activation.

What I've tried so far (thanks to Google):
-tried tapping the 4 corners, starting top left, going clockwise. Doesn't apply to this phone, but was still worth a shot.
-"end call" on activation 4-5 times
-reboot 3-4 times
