Android :: Creating JAR In Eclipse
Nov 23, 2010I have a "thirdparty.jar" which I have to add into my Eclipse project and make one combined JAR for my entire package. I have added the thirdparty.jar into my pproject using "Java Build Path" Libraries settings in eclipse. But when I try to make jar for my entire project, the jar creation for my project is success but the "thirdparty.jar" is not getting included in my project.jar.

Jun 1, 2009Just a few days working on Android, but... I don't see this to be "normal" (well, the Dalvik isn't but that's another subject... xD)
when i try to create a new XML file (for a layout) from eclipse, using the android plugin, it shows up a window saying "Problem Opening Wizard - The selected wizard could not be started", and the error comes to show:
"The selected wizard could not be started. Plug-in com.android.ide.eclipse.adt was unable to load class com.android.ide.eclipse.editors.wizards.NewXmlFileWizard. com.android.ide.eclipse.editors.wizards.NewXmlFileWizard"
Ok, I see the error is something missing (or failing) in the plugin...

Jun 14, 2009When I make a new project the .java file is not generated. I can run the project, but it does not run in the emulator or anything. It did use to work before then it stop working. I tried deleting the folder and all project files. After that I reinstalled everything but I am still having problems.

Android :: Creating A Service That Survives Application That Started It?
Nov 10, 2010I'm developing an Android application that consists of:
a lightweight background service that logs events to a DB
a heavier GUI application that summarizes these events and displays graphs.
I'm having trouble creating the service part, though. The graphic application can use quite some RAM, and when it goes to the background, the OS closes it after some time of not being used.
The problem is, when the application gets shut down, so does the service. This is bad because this keeps me from recording further events. I don't care if the application gets terminated, but the service needs to keep on running.
I have tried numerous ways to keep the service alive, like having it use threads or a differently named process than the main app. Nothing has worked, and I have found no help on any of the android developer pages or forums.

If I didn't explicitly stop that service will it be loaded again and resumed when the device wakes up.

Android :: Creating An Android Service That Cannot Be Killed
Sep 10, 2010I am trying to write an app that cannot be killed by a user or another application. I understand this goes against what Android has designed for its platform, this is more of a proof of concept. The plan is two have two apps, app1 and app2. When app1 starts it will start app2 and then bind onto app2, when app2 starts it will make sure app1 is started if not, then start it and bind onto app1. The point of app1 binding on app2 and app2 binding on app1 is so when one of them gets killed a method will be called that the binding has been disconnected and the app can then be restarted. I currently have the apps starting each other when they start up but I cannot seem to get them to restart when I force close one of them.
For App1 service I have and app2 very similar:

I think the issue I am having is that onServiceDisconnected never gets called when app1 or app2 is killed. I think this may be because I am not correctly binding to a service.

I have put a couple of breakpoints, at the statements indicated by the comments.
This is what happens: the debugger first stops at the breakpoint1, for a few seconds. But then the service restarts. For the life of me I can't figure out what makes the service to restart.

Mar 1, 2009My service works exactly the way i want as long as i use start and stop and communicate using intents. However my activity needs to change the state of my service as well as retrieving state information.So i thought it would be nice to broadcast some kind of state_changed event from my service and use a binder interface to pull information from the service or change the services state based on user input.This works fine too. The only problem is that my service gets killed when i unbind it just as the documentation says.Is there any way to keep the service alive but still get an interface to control it directly. My activity offers the user a way to stop the service and the service kills itself anyway after it's work is done but i don't want the service to stop every time the activity is destroyed.

Android :: Tips On Making An Android Service / Which Polls Web Service Handle Bad Connectivity
Jul 16, 2010I am developing an Android app which needs to poll a specific webpage in time intervals. I've got it to the point where it does indeed poll the page on a specific interval, and that interval is specified in a SharedPreference which can be changed by the user in the settings page of the app. But complications arise when network connectivity is flaky.For example, how do I ensure that the Service "wakes up" the network adapter and gives it ample time to connect before polling the page, in the case that the phone was sleeping to save power? This polling action can happen as little as once every 24 hours, so I don't want to miss one action just because the network was out (but turned on a few seconds, minutes, or even hours later).
Or there are times when the web service doesn't respond, or DNS doesn't respond, or what have you, and for any reason it doesn't get a response even though the phone is technically connected. What sort of rule do I put in place to make this retry later, so that I'm not retrying repeatedly when the user specifically turned off their internet but I'm retrying soon enough that if it was just a hiccup, the data can be received soon after the first try?Are there any examples for this type of situation? What is the logic to best handle this?

So I decide to develop a remote service with AIDL.This wasn't a big problem but now it's always running into the methods of the interface and not into those of my service class. Maybe someone could help me?If i now try to call a method from an activity for example start(trackId) nothing happens. The binding is OK. When debugging it always runs into the startTracking() in the generated ITrackingServiceRemote.java file and not into my TrackingService class. Where is the problem? I can't find anything wrong.
