Android :: Bluetooth Microphone Activation
May 20, 2009
I have a bluetooth headset that works fine with android 1.5 for listening music or calling people. My problem is that microphone is only active when I call someone, but I would like it to be activated anytime, for dictation. Is there any way to activate bluetooth microphone with sdk or is there some special headsets that would be ok for that?

Since two weeks, I am the happy owner of a HTC Desire. Great phone and I love Android! One issue though...
The microphone volume of my Bluetooth headset is on the low side. It's the same headset I used with my previous Windows Mobile phone and in that configuration I had no problems. I paired a different Bluetooth headset with the Desire, but no luck... the volume is still to low. The volume of the build-in mic is ok.
Does anybody know what I can do to increase the mic volume? Settings? App?

I would like to have a Bluetooth headset with inbuilt Microphone to take calls. I bought a Nokia headset, but noticed immediately that it dropped music quiet quickly and after a while it was impossible to make it work at all. Anyone has a model that works (as in WORKS) with the I7500?

I've got the Google dev phone from USA and I'm trying to activate it on Telenor in Norway. I've tried a whole bunch of different APN settings but nothing seems to be working. After filling in my username and password it tries to connect to google servers for activation a couple of minutes before it reports an error "There is a problem communicating with the Google servers." I've tried to delete all APNs and adding a new one. The settings I'm using now is: Name: telenor APN: telenor MCC: 242 MNC: 01 The rest is unset. I've also tried with username/password "dj/dj" and "wap/wap". And also changing the APN value to "internet".

I've been looking for someone with a similar problem but I haven't found anything yet. My phone boots up OK then it goes to the activation screen but after a couple of seconds (10 - 30, seems random) the phone hangs. When it's at the activation screen it seem to connect to the cell service (Fido) but R in the status bar would indicates that it's roaming (clue?). I have to take out the battery to reboot. It's a T-Mobile G1 that I'm trying to get working with Fido (Canada). It's a phone I bought used (activated but locked) but then I reseted it to factory default which deactivated it. I unlocked it. I tried to activate it through wifi. Followed the instruction and downgraded it to rc29. I've tried different rc, different roms, same thing.

I have to activate android's system key lock (the one you get when you press the power off/*hang up* button). See here:
I already browsed the docs but everything I found was PowerManager and KeyguardManager. Both seem not to be the solution. So, does everyone know how to achieve that from a android application? (If special permissions are required, that is no problem but changing the device's settings is not a solution)

I got a Android Dev Phone 1 from U.S and now staying in China with China Mobile. I don't plan to use any GPRS connection and only want to use the voice and wifi feature of the phone for development work. I wonder if I can by-pass annoying APN setting screen? I don't understand why this is mandatory?

For example, firstly download the app "ABC", "Open" button and "Uninstall" button will be displayed at the bottom of the screen when the installing is completed. Secondly, activate "ABC" by tapping this "Open", and tap HOME key when the app is running. After that, restart the same app from the Launcher on the Home screen, and finish the restarted one from BACK key. Then, despite having closed the restarted one, the same app is displayed. (I forecast the cause, it is maybe the multiple activation of the app.)
Q1. Is it the problem as the specific of Android Market that multiple activation occurs when the app is activated with above process? If it's no problem, is the cause the app "ABC" which I downloaded? Q2. Is there any way to avoid the multiple activation in designing of apps?

So, I just called Sprint and told them I was told I could get my Activation Fee waived, the guy who answered said he couldn't waive the whole fee but he gave me 50% off. Better than nothing. Anyone have any luck getting it completely waived?FYI, Sprint charges $5 extra to your monthly bill if you don't use Auto-Pay I just figured that out. So before you pay your bill you can set up Auto-Pay online.

My audio analysis application needs a microphone sample rate of greater than 8000 Hz.At least 11025 Hz is required. It seems that some phones support a higher rate and some are limited to 8000 Hz.Does anyone know what percentage of Android phones will support the higher sample rate? And if I do develop this app, how can a potential customer determine whether or not his particular phone supports the higher sampling rate?

How to detect "blowing in to the microphone"? I saw an iPhone app which simulate flute instrument. You blow through the mic and use your fingers to play. Can Android do that?I've looked at the voice recognition in the API demos but it seems that is not the case.

I've read a lot of posts in this group regarding raw audio processing. Most of them include references by Mr. Sparks about support for this in "future releases". I hope maybe he was referring to Android 2.0? To be clear, all I want to do is obtain audio data from the microphone in as high a fidelity as possible to perform DSP against it. This is blissfully outside the realm of any DRM-laden audio output issues (I hope).
So, in short, can we get raw audio off the microphone using Android 2.0 and a Droid, for example?

I have been searching for quite some time now, and I haven't been able to find a way to actually get an SPL/db value from a microphone on android. The few threads and articles that I have found that discussed it treated it like something SO obvious that anyone should be able to do it, and were more concerned with getting their conversion algorithms correct. Does anyone know how to do this?

I would like to detect if microphone in the device or in a headset is mute during a call. Currently I've taken the following approach (unfortunately - it does not work): 1) register PhoneStateListener to detect when a call is started/ finished 2) when call is started then I start a thread that periodically calls audioManager.isMicrophoneMute() method to discover a microphone status. (audioManager is obtained by calling getSystemService (AUDIO_SERVICE) ) 3) when call is finished I stop a thread started in bullet 2
Unfortunately audioManager.isMicrophoneMute() always returns 'true', does not matter if I select or deselect the 'Mute' option in the menu during a call. Does anybody know if it is possible to detect the state of a microphone during a call?

I'm working on an app that uses AudioRecord class to get input data from the phone mic. For some reason I'm unable to mute the mic. I have tried with different AudioSources (DEFAULT, MIC and VOICE_UPLINK) when creating the AudioRecord object, but there's no difference in the muting behaviour.

I purchased MyBackup Pro and tried to transfer my contacts, apps, etc from one HTC incredible to another. I activated the new phone, instealled MyBackupPro on it, and restored. Only problem is, my contacts came through corrupted, so didn't transfer. Now I need to go back to my old phone and get the contacts off of it using MYBackup Pro. But the phone won't let me past the activation screen. I don't want to reactivate it, I just want to use the app to download the contact information to the SD card. Why is it requiring activation to transfer information? How do I fix?
