Usually happens after a force close. Instead of showing the usual 30 lines or so of logs + scrollable history, it only shows a single line or a couple of lines. The only fix that I can find is to restart DDMS.

I think I must be missing something really basic here, but if my program dies, DDMS doesn't tell me which line it died on - all the stack references are inside the Android source code giving "source not found" errors.

From the command line:
An emulator is running. adb server is running. "adb devices" lists correctly and I can see my instance on an avd in the output.
However when I manually start DDMS from the command line it just keeps trying to connect. I can find no connection config issues. (yes, it works from within eclipse and ddms shows threads etc)
System : Debian Squeeze
I ran update-java-alternatives to be sure java was set up properly for "Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_20-b02)" . Not too much of a surprise to seasoned Debian users my Java is now worse ... When I run ddms from the command line I get :--

Sometimes the DDMS in the Eclipse not listing the process.
To do the debug in this condition,
1) Is their any way force the DDMS to list the process?
2) Any command to attach the process from the command line?
I have two phones, one running 1.5 and the other on 1.6. When I connect the 1.6 device via usb, DDMS recognizes it and in the top-left pane shows: HT842....... | Online | 1.6, debug
It then lists the individual processes, I can select them and use various tools like allocation tracker.
But when I connect the 1.5 device, DDMS recognizes it but shows: HT95A....... | Online | 1.5
But it does not show any of the processes on the device, so I am not able to do use allocation tracker and such. The sysinfo tab works, and I can monitor logcat with filter and such in the bottom pane.
What am I missing here? Obviously the 1.5 device has USB debugging enabled. Why does it not show 'debug' in DDMS? I'm using SDK 1.5_r2 on linux (Ubuntu 9.04), if that makes a difference.
I just upgraded from my old Droid X to a LG Spectrum.
Now whenever I connect it to USB, for some reason it won't show up in DDMS or Eclipse. I downloaded the USB driver from LG, and tried every kind of USB mode on the device. And yes I have USB debugging on.
I have created a custom ExpandableListAdapter and everything works properly. What I'd like to be able to do is in each of the groups add a different type of child to the end. I have tried adding 1 to the getChildrenCount() number and then testing isLastChild in the getChildView() method, but that doesn't seem to work.
If a group has three children what I have working looks like this:
Group
NormalChild
NormalChild
NormalChild
But I'd really like something like this:
Group
NormalChild
NormalChild
NormalChild
AlternateChild
The idea being that the AlternateChild could be a link to more info about the group.
ListView has addFooterView() which will allow you to add a footer to a whole ListView... wonder how to add them to the ExpandableListView's children, or if it's even possible
as an end user, can I surpress sms alerts in the notification bar on android 2.1 (alert - but not show the first line of text)? Is there a phone setting? Or an app out there that allows this choice?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to know whenever someone is called, calls, smsed or smses. I figured for the calls I'd use the phone state change to trigger when I should check the CallLog provider again. I couldn't see any direct way of getting broadcasts from the CallLog. Did I miss it?
For SMSes I'm having more trouble. I'd like to know whenever and SMS is sent or received. Being able to receive STATUS_ON_SIM_READ and STATUS_ON_SIM_SENT would be great, but from what I've read in the Sms Manager that would depend on the sending application. I can't seem to find any evidence of a default one that android places when it sends. I also couldn't find an sms log provider or anything similar.

ALWAYS logs that the drawing cache is null, and sets the bitmap to null? Do I have to actually draw the view before the cache is set?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI'm testing an android application with a long running service. I'm using Eclipse and have the usb cord hooked up with the phone sitting next to me. Since it's a long ongoing service, I do some other work while it runs and check the logcat logs every once in a while to make sure everything is going as expected.
A few minutes ago I noticed the phone rebooting. I think it's done this before as it would explain some weird application behavior. I quickly switched over to Eclipse to see what happened and found that the logcat log was (it seems) cleared during the reboot. So there's no log of whether my app crashed (and took down the phone?!) or if there was some other problem that took down the phone and my app.
Is there anyway I can find out what happened? This is a development phone, so I don't know if it reboots/crashes often on its own, or only while my app is running. It's a Motorola Droid running Firmware version 2.1-update1.
I have a simple app that I am building to get the hang of android's development environment - and things like click events, etc..
The app loads, and I am able to change the text in a textfield using a button handler. However, when I import the location class, and try to do a simple GPS call, the application crashes.
The problem is, everything looks good in Eclipse (error console) - and I'm not seeing any exceptions in the android emulator (DevTools). I have the logcat window open, but I haven't done anything in eclipse/code to send logcat anything (do I need to?)
Is there a better way to troubleshoot?

Ok, so I wonder how to troubleshoot Android phone crashes, freezes, reboots, etc.
Maybe there are ways to troubleshoot these kind of events by looking at loggings to pinpoint the problem (like does a particular app cause this, or a hardware event, etc).
I see my HTC notices it recovered from an abnormal reset for instance, and asks to send logging to HTC HQ, so there seems to be ways that could tell more what is causing trouble?
I want to let the users send me the logs from the device i wonder how do i extract the logs in to a file on the device ?

We are trying to create a listview exactly similar to 'call log listview' of 'contact' application (which is a default one). There is one listview item but two clickable controls.
1. Left one - for viewing call log details
2. Right one - for calling that person
