Android :: Sending - Alert - Notification - To Phone From Website
Sep 24, 2010
I was wondering if there was a way for a website to send an alert/notification to a cell phone (smart phone, android, iphone... stuff like that) where the notification will ask the user a question and they have to answer the question and the response is sent back to the website and their answer is logged in the database.
I would also like to know if this notification could have checkboxes? I am needing this for a project and would like to know if there is anything out there like this.

What is everyone using for notification, since Vibrant doesn't have LED, somewheres on here there was a post where it said someone made a app for this.
But I'd like to know what people are using and if its working good, the one thing I don't like about this phone is that, I know I can just use the side button to light it up to see, but I miss by led light off the Cliq.

This may be common knowledge, but whenever I get a notification alert (for a new email, text, etc.), I don't get another audible alert until I have checked the notification bar. What's up with that?
Maybe the first alert was an email that I don't care about, so I ignore the alert. But then if a text came in after that that I really wanted to know about, I wouldn't know about it until I actually checked the notification bar.

I know it's a standing issue with the androids not receiving email notifications from the regular email app but is there an APP that will just notify me of email? Doesn't have to view it or anything just alert me as I am satisfied with the original email app. I've tried K-9 and it closes unexpectedly all the time and I find it unreliable with my phone (Samsung Galaxy S). I've also tried Maildroid which I wasn't too impressed with.

Does anyone know of a way to have the Droid make an alert sound of your choice when the battery is fully charged? It would be awesome to hear when the battery is charged rather than have to keep checking visually at various intervals. I can't keep my hands off of the phone so I can get a little impatient during the charging process sometimes, I'd love to be able to "set it and forget it" until I hear the alert. If there isn't a way to do this, someone should figure out a way to make it so.

Whenever I get a text message Handcent plays a song from my MP3's. Even though I have set it to use a simple notification. The song plays all the way through too, the only way I can silence it is to turn off my ringer volume. But then I have no ringer.

Since I have updated to Froyo on Tuesday, via software update on phone, my evo 4g has picked up an annoying habit. I use the stock messenger app. If I receive a text message while on a call, it plays the text alert music in my earpiece and I can't even hear the person on the phone to save my life. If I were to turn on the speaker, it is alot worse.

as an end user, can I surpress sms alerts in the notification bar on android 2.1 (alert - but not show the first line of text)? Is there a phone setting? Or an app out there that allows this choice?

The new phone is great, but being alerted you have an unimportant e-mail at 3am is not. I found the option for LED notifications, letting you select each app, but when I looked for audible notifcations it gives me the option to select the sound and adjust the volume (in another tab). So, I turned the volume down for akk notifications for a quick fix, but now I cannot hear SMS alerts. It seems to be all or nothing.

I have just got an HTC Desire. I have paired it with the Bluetooth in my car and it works fine, but I now get a notification alert every minute or so when I'm in the car, which is really annoying. I have checked at my local Orange shop and they have no idea! Can anyone help me get rid of this irritation?

This is my first android phone coming from years of blackberries. I've noticed that when messages arrive and I don't clear/check them on my phone, all subsequent messages that come after are not alerting using notification sounds. Is there a way for notification sounds to play regardless?

I have a service running, and would like to send a notification. Too bad, the notification object requires a context, like an Activity, and not a service.
Do you know any way to by pass that ? I tried to create an Activity for each notification bu it seems ugly, and I can't find a way to launch an Activity without any view.

I downloaded a custom notification alert. I want to use it for my emails but not text messages. I found that I was only able to set it as the alert for one of my email accounts. If I try to set it up for the other one, it won't take. Like it's only allowed to be used for one or something. I wonder if I can use the same sound but name it differently maybe it will let me choose it...

My definition/expectation of a 'notification' is a graphic/text message with the option to enable/disable a sound to alert me that the notification came in per app.
I want to:
1- enable/disable graphic/text per app
2- enable/disable sound per app
For #1, it looks like I have to go Setting>App Manager>All>Uncheck 'show notifications'. But, apparently that will disable everything...ie, no graphic/text or sound. I've tried lock screen and notification apps without luck so far......

I have a server socket bound to a port and I want to send notifications using NotificationManager when a client connects. This all works well.
What I want to avoid is sending notifications if a specific activity is currently being used by the user. E.g., I'm trying to avoid something like GMail notification if I'm already reading email.

My wife and I both have HTC Hero's (Sprint) and recently have been having problems sending and receiving pictures in our text (from each other as well as other people) If I send a picture to her, her phone will vibrate and the notification light will blink, but nothing will show up.
Now if I send a second picture the first one will show up on her phone, and if I send a third, the second one shows up and on and on. It happens the same way if she tries to send me a picture. The phones worked fine when we bought them in December. This problem has just started in the last month.

I have an mp3 that I want to use as my notification and text message sound. It was on my computer. I have emailed it to myself and I am able to download it to my droid eris.
On my Eris, it appears in my music section. How do I set it as my notification sound? It is not appearing in the "sound" list for notifications.

I have placed it on the sd card under Audio/Notifications and I can play the sound file OK but when i go to the settings of the sms app (Handcent SMS) and choose Notification Setting and then Select Ringtone, it does not display the sound file. I have stored on the card, just the built-in ones, How do I make the app use the stored sound file.

When the X10 attached to a wire handsfree, the alert notification from the stock calendar, gmail, alarm clock etc would come though the handsfree and not the phone speaker itself. Is there anyway to stop this happening as I want the notification to come though the phone speaker. Or is this the bug of X10 that SE needs to sort out?? Is there any app on market that can make sure the alert notification comes through in the phone speaker, not via handsfree speaker when a wired handsfree attached to X10.

I have a song setup as the ringtone on my Xperia X10 mini and this works fine but when I receive a text message the phone is playing a random song. I have the phone set up to use one of the phones own short notifications but it isn't using it and I have to restart the phone to stop the song playing. I may have the settings wrong but I can't find anything in the instructions to put it right?

I have 2 questions though.
1 - how do I change the alert notification for my calendar? Originally it was just the standard alert. When I view the settings there was the option to use the standard droid alert of use a ringtone. So, playing around I cheeked use a ring tone. It brought me to a directory(?) or folder with 4 songs that I had downloaded using railio(sp) ringtones. Now that's the only place I can get to for ALL alerts and ringtones. Even for my contacts it goes to the 4 songs I downloaded from railio ringtones and I can't navigate anywhere else.
I have gone into manage applications and uninstalled the ringtone program, but still can't get out of that spot for my alerts and ringtones. It's driving me crazy!
2 - My contacts have multiple entries for one person.
How can I delete the multiple entries for a contact? When I edit the contact information for a person I see 3 - 5 duplicate entries for one contact. When I first got my droid I synced with 2 google accounts - I didn't know what I was doing --- so, the information under one contact is repeated many times.

Within the past week, I have gotten a "Sending..." notification at the bottom of my screen when I turn my phone on. Also, my phone gets a bit warm and the battery doesn't last a half a day. I use Handcent and have cleared the cache and the "unsent messages". I don't know what other program is sending things.

Does anybody know the name of this app and/or where I can get it?

I am looking into developing an App that will convert a website into more readable data for an android app. I am at university and have an online notice board which can be viewed on the web but if possible I would like to transfer this into an app on android to make it more easy to read on mobile devices.
What I thinking is that the app would go to the website where the notice board is held and read in the html code to display each notice in a list adapter view. Each notice is within its own div so I assume I could use that to split each notice up into its own button on the list adapter view. Is this possible and if so how I can go about doing this. I have tried google for an answer but I have not yet found a solution to this problem.

It turns out that if you are synching Outlook with a server, not all servers can handle Adroid phones. I don't know if an app like Touchdown would fix this, so if you need to synch with a server, check this out. Because I wanted to go with AT&T anyway for tethering reasons (a fairly unique situation), I went with an Iphone and have been quite happy with it, though the jury is still out on the touch keypad. An advantage of the Iphone is that the world has adapted to it. My Ford Escape synch system will not recognize all phones, but does recognize the Iphone, given how popular it is. This also may be an issue for some people, not for others.
