Can we do a grid view not just with ImageView but with a custom view.
I am trying to make a grid view of a view composed of an ImageView and a TextView.
I know that everything happens in my Adapter getView's function but I can't figure out how to do it.

My view has an id of R.id.fileUnitLayout. Let's say my inner TextView has an id of A and my inner ImageView has an id of B. How can I fill them ?

May 21, 2010I need to create a home screen (menu) with four to six items arranged in a grid view, each item needs to have an icon and a text below the icon. I googled and everything I could find were adapterView examples, with dynamic menu loading, and I want to make it with static xml, this view will not change so no need for dynamic code.

Aug 18, 2010I have a WebView inside the ScrollView. The content of WebView dyanamically changes when it displays different html page. I have the following issue: For example I have A.html, and B.html. The content of B.html is larger than A.html, so the page is longer. When WebView load B.html, the ScrollView stretches its size to enable itself scroll for B.html, then if I go back to A.html, ScrollView doesn't resize itself. (The scroll area is exceed the content of A.html) What I want to have, is dynamic change the scroll area of scroll view to fit the webview's content.

Feb 7, 2010I have a GridView, using a custom adapter (myAdapter extends BaseAdapter), where each item in the grid holds an ImageButton. getView() is working fine.
However, from elsewhere in my code, how can I update the image (setImageResource) for one particular item in the grid based on its position in the GridView?
So far, I've added this to my adapter class:

Upon clicking the mouse button I would like to replace the existing views with new views. Where I currently have an imageview for example could be replaced with a TextView.
I have tried various calls which suggest they delete these objects and the code does compile but then when I run it it crashes.

Mar 5, 2009I'm trying to create a listview containing conversations in chat bubbles, and each chat bubbles are rows in the list view. So what I have is an avatar on the left, and a chat bubble on the right. Then in the chat bubble, I have a textview for name, a textview for content, and a textview for time. The problem is, I cannot adjust the height of the chat bubble such that the bottom edge is just below the textview for time. In the chatBubble, I have this line that does not work android:layout_alignBottom="@+id/timeLabel" because timeLabel is a textview created after chatBubble. If I place chatBubble tags right below timeLabel, the height of chatBubble will be just right because lf the layout_alignBottom, but chatBubble covers all the text created before it.
Is there a way I can create the chatBubble last, and bring the view to the background? Or is there a better way to do this?....................

Nov 3, 2009I've got a tab host activity started from a home screen shortcut. When my application starts it downloads information from a server using an AsyncTask. In the onPostExecute method of the AsyncTask I call setContentView to display the TabHost.When I start the homescreen shortcut by tapping on the shortcut using my finger everything works as expected, I download the information from the server and display the TabHost with the information in the tabs. However starting the application by navigating to the shortcut with the mouse wheel and then clicking on the shortcut with the mouse wheel leads to a trap in the framework code as soon as my application starts. This looks like a simple fix since mCurrentView is null at the time that this method is called - can this issue be addressed? Does anyone know of any workarounds?

Android : ListActivity - View Content Is "disappearing"
Oct 12, 2010I'm having a problem with my ListView in a ListActivity with a Custom ArrayAdapter.
When the ListActivity becomes hidden (paused, whatever), the data that was present in the ArrayAdpater seems to go away. Rotation works fine, but I am only assigning the array in the ArrayAdapter in the onCreate(), nowhere else. The array is stored in a global static so the array itself should be fine. but the ListView seems to be pitching the array somewhere after the onCreate in the Activity Lifecycle.
I'm thinking the array should be re-assigned on one of the onResume(), onStart() or onRestart(), but I'm looking for a more concrete reason as this happens only rarely and never with my Cursor based Adapters.

I was wondering if it was possible to pro-grammatically change the Content Provider used when making a query given a Content URI. The reason being I need to know if it's possible to force the Calendar/Contacts applications to read from a different database via a different Content Provider temporarily while my application is running, so that I can reuse those applications to display my own data. Since the Content URI s are hard coded in each of these applications the only way it might be possible is if we could somehow temporarily change the Content Provider used for a given URI. I know this probably isn't possible, I just need to show it isn't. Could someone confirm this can't be done?

Mar 1, 2010I am having a hard time understanding content providers. In the notepad example and others, the content provider never even declares its CONTENT_URI anywhere inside itself, yet the docs say to publicly declare this. It's declared in a different class. So when an activity queries a content provider with a CONTENT_URI, how does Android know which one I want. I see no link between a content provider and its CONTENT_URI declared in another class.
I also don't how to think about intents and content providers. I know that you don't call an intent on a content provider. But an activity queries a content provider without an intent, and an activity has a mimetype attribute in the manifest that would seem to tie it to a content provider.

Android :: Getting A Button Along With Gridview?
Aug 22, 2010I have a gridview that is inflated by multiple buttons. I used just a gridview and it worked fine. The grid was in correct order and was centered. Although, I wanted to add a button below the grid of buttons that was different and centered. To do this I decided to section off the gridview and then add the button (therefore it wouldn't be affected by the gridview).
I tried the following code to seperate the views:

The problem is that this code smushes the gridview to the left and oddly it flips it (Position 0 is ont he bottom right and the last button is on the top left pushed off screen). The following image shows what is the result:
Any idea why its pushed to the left and flipped? Or maybe how I could have just the Gridview with the button on the bottom?

Aug 24, 2010I'm trying to use a custom listSelector on a GridView. When I use the default listSelector, I see that it modifies the size of my items so the listSelector display correctly. The list Selector is bigger than my items:
See how when using the default selecto, it make grid items to be resized. Above the gridview I have a LinearLayout with 4 of the same images(ImageView) the GridView contains. http://twitpic.com/2hxkjh
I wanted a custom listSelector, not as bigger as the default (that makes my items smaller), but bigger enough to simulate a border on them without overlap my items content. I'm, not sure if this is an expected behavior, but when I set the listSelector with my own image, I see the selector being fit to my items size. At least my items won't get resized. [url]
Any ideas of how to set a selector that doesn't get resized?

Mar 3, 2010I have a GridView that displays images, which are, unfortunately, of different sizes. They are shown in between two lines of text:

If IMAGE1 is the same height as IMAGE2, everything is fine, but if IMAGE1 is longer than IMAGE2, text2.1 will run into text3.1 (padding doesn't seem to help much, as there's too much of it when images are of the same height).
I know there's a way to stretch the images in the ImageView so they are the same height, but is it possible to keep images as is and set the row height somehow?

So far every view I set up worked fine, but now I am trying to create a ListView (including single_choice_mode) within a child view of the ViewFlipper, but my attempt only let to a NullPointerException. As I only discovered ViewFlipper today, I am not yet familiar with it and may not have understood it completely. if someone could give me a hand and help me find out what I have done wrong, that would be great.
