I need to create a home screen (menu) with four to six items arranged in a grid view, each item needs to have an icon and a text below the icon. I googled and everything I could find were adapterView examples, with dynamic menu loading, and I want to make it with static xml, this view will not change so no need for dynamic code.

However, from elsewhere in my code, how can I update the image (setImageResource) for one particular item in the grid based on its position in the GridView?

Upon clicking the mouse button I would like to replace the existing views with new views. Where I currently have an imageview for example could be replaced with a TextView.
I have tried various calls which suggest they delete these objects and the code does compile but then when I run it it crashes.
I cant seem to open a new view from an options menu item. The program keeps crashing as it applies the intent and listener to the item. I am just beginning, so please be nice. My activity overrides onTouchEvent to detect motion, and if I use registerForContextMenu() it stops working. I'm detecting a long press, so I'd like to forward that request to a method that would build the menu for me, but don't know if it can work that way.
In Android, onContextItemSelected has a single MenuItem argument and so it isn't clear how to identify the view selected. MenuItem.getMenuInfo provides access to Contextmenu.ContextMenuInfo, but while both known subclasses provide access to the target view, there does not appear to be an accessor on the interface.One alternative is to save the View provided in onCreateContextMenu in a private class variable which relies on onCreateContextMenu not being called again in the activity before onContextItemSelected. I cleared defaults for all three apps but it's still choosing Dolphin to play. Now that wouldn't be a problem but what happens if I use Dolphin is that it completely messes up my Full screen settings and changes the browser to use full screen until i exit and go back into Dolphin.

I'm building an application with some items that must be landscape-oriented. Everything else (menu, view for editing the item, list of item...) should change orientation according to the orientation of the device. To do that I set android:screenOrientation="landscape" in the AndroidManifest.xml for the activity showing my items. Now, how can I create a portrait-oriented menu for that activity?
I'm also wondering if setting the screen orientation of the activity is the only way? Isn't it possible to set the screenOrientation for each view?

I have a gridview that is inflated by multiple buttons. I used just a gridview and it worked fine. The grid was in correct order and was centered. Although, I wanted to add a button below the grid of buttons that was different and centered. To do this I decided to section off the gridview and then add the button (therefore it wouldn't be affected by the gridview).
I tried the following code to seperate the views:

The problem is that this code smushes the gridview to the left and oddly it flips it (Position 0 is ont he bottom right and the last button is on the top left pushed off screen). The following image shows what is the result:
Any idea why its pushed to the left and flipped? Or maybe how I could have just the Gridview with the button on the bottom?
I'm trying to use a custom listSelector on a GridView. When I use the default listSelector, I see that it modifies the size of my items so the listSelector display correctly. The list Selector is bigger than my items:

I wanted a custom listSelector, not as bigger as the default (that makes my items smaller), but bigger enough to simulate a border on them without overlap my items content. I'm, not sure if this is an expected behavior, but when I set the listSelector with my own image, I see the selector being fit to my items size. At least my items won't get resized. [url]
Any ideas of how to set a selector that doesn't get resized?

If IMAGE1 is the same height as IMAGE2, everything is fine, but if IMAGE1 is longer than IMAGE2, text2.1 will run into text3.1 (padding doesn't seem to help much, as there's too much of it when images are of the same height).
I know there's a way to stretch the images in the ImageView so they are the same height, but is it possible to keep images as is and set the row height somehow?
My question is this: i was looking at the "Hello world view: gridview" example and was wondering, how do i load all my images dynamically. for example in the ImageAdapter.java file, at the end there is:

My application have three pages (three tabs) and I want to switch beetween two gridviews by moving finger horizontaly. The touch code works fine but I can't click anymore on the grid items! So far every view I set up worked fine, but now I am trying to create a ListView (including single_choice_mode) within a child view of the ViewFlipper, but my attempt only let to a NullPointerException. As I only discovered ViewFlipper today, I am not yet familiar with it and may not have understood it completely. if someone could give me a hand and help me find out what I have done wrong, that would be great.
