Android :: Zoom In And Out On A Custom Overlay And Enlarge Image?
Nov 17, 2010
Does anybody knows if it is possible to zoom in and out on a custom overlay and enlarge the image? I'd like to do something like that: http://geoserver.nima.puc-rio.br/puc-rio/
If you zoom in, you'll notice that the image gets bigger.

I have done my fair share of google searches for this and have come up empty.
I have a set of marker(25) that are being displayed on a MapView. I would love to be able to have it zoom to a reasonable level to make the markers readable.

I created a custom OverlayItem class so that I could essentially have one kind of OverlayItem whose Drawable marker would set itself depending on the state of some data that I pass into it. I have attempted to accomplish this by, on my first attempt, utilizing the setMarker method within the OverlayItem class. Once that did not work I attempt to override the getMarker method and have it return the appropriate marker to represent the data. Both of these attempts ended with nothing being drawn on the map...however if they are commented out the markers draw just fine (except they of course use the default marker, which isn't what I want). Here is my code for my custom OverlayItem class (the commented out methods I have tried and they have not worked):
private class MyOverlayItem extends OverlayItem {
private Context mContext; private MyData mData;
public MyOverlayItem(GeoPoint point, MyData data, Context context) {
super(point, data.getWhat(), data.getWhere()); this.mContext = context; this.mData = data;
/*if(data.getTemp() > 200) this.setMarker(res.getDrawable(R.drawable.icon_data_hot_l));
else if(data.getTemp() > 100) this.setMarker(res.getDrawable(R.drawable.icon_data_neutral_l));
else this.setMarker(res.getDrawable(R.drawable.icon_data_frozen_l));*/ }
/*@Override public Drawable getMarker(int stateBitset) {
Resources res = this.mContext.getResources(); if(this.mData.getTemp() > 200)
return res.getDrawable(R.drawable.icon_data_hot_l); else if(this.mData.getTemp() > 100)
return res.getDrawable(R.drawable.icon_data_neutral_l);
return res.getDrawable(R.drawable.icon_data_frozen_l);
}*/ }
Is there a way to do what I am attempting to do or do I need to make a unique OverlayItem class corresponding to each state of my data?

I've been stuck for ages now trying to implement threading or background image loading for a custom tile overlay class I've been working on. I'm pretty useless when it comes to Java so threading isn't something I've had any experience with. Basically I have extended an ItemizedOverlay and in the draw() method calculate the tiles I need to display over the standard google tiles then fetch those images with a URLConnection and using BitmapFactory decode them and draw them to the canvas at the correct position on the screen so that the images are on top of the google tiles with about 50% opacity (the custom tiles are cellphone network coverage png's which are used for our web app). I initially got this all working with the tiles loading in the correct places but hit issues with memory and "freezing" while panning so implemented some basic caching and memory management to only store the tiles that are displayed on the map in memory and when downloading a tile store it to SD card.
Then I figured the freezing while panning is due to the blocking nature of downloading the images so, have been trying to implement threading. I created a class that extends AsyncTask to download the images in the background and store them to SD, in the onPostExecute method I then try to draw all the tiles. But onPostExecute never seems to fire, now I know that the AsyncTask has to be called in the main ui thread so tried to debug the execution with Thread.currentThread().getId() calls through out the code. The thread Ids through out is 1 and then 10 for the doInBackground method for the AsyncTask. Now I'm not sure if 1 is the main UI thread or not. In the extended MapActivity class I have, the onCreate method's Thread.currentThread().getId() returns 1 but I'm not sure if the MapActivity class is executed in the main ui thread? Here Romain Guy mentions that the onPostExecute method should have @Override but when I do that eclipse flags it as an error
"The method onPostExecute(Boolean...) of type TileCache.ImageLoadTask must override or implement a supertype method"
So I guess something is wrong there but the only fix eclipse offers is to remove the @Override
So I guess with out post all my source code, the question's I have are:
Is the MapActivity onCreate method called in the main ui thread?
What does the @Override error mean? or why does it show that error
Does anyone have an example of a custom tile overlay implementation with background image loading and tile caching?

I'm using the stock Android 2.1 gallery to view images. I have a large JPG image (approx 7000x7000 pixels) of bicycle route map for my city. I tried zooming and scrolling with the gallery image viewer, but it cannot zoom in close enough to read the map detail.
Is there a better image viewer app out there that is good for zooming and scrolling large JPG images?
I would like to use Google maps, but the bicycle route mode still does not work in the Android app.

Is there an easy way to use a custom image for a checkbox? I'm looking to duplicate the "starred" behavior of gmail. So I want to have a checkbox that, when checked, is a filled in star. And when unchecked is an empty star. Do I have to use an imageview and do my own logic myself?

Is it possible to create a layout based on (background) images? For example, there is well know app called Appie that uses this picture as a homescreen:
I might be able to recreate the layout with a TableLayout, but this will be difficult to get it perfectly aligned with the buttons in the image. The default layout options make it very difficult, or maybe impossible, to allow for selection of the buttons on the image (especially when the buttons are in an arc-path). Can anyone tell me how this is done?

I am using a ListView to display my custom item layout, which may contain some TextViews and an ImageView.
This is the item layout I made (post_item.xml):
CODE:........................
I don't put the ImageView initially in the xml layout, but I will insert it when I need to the FrameLayout programmatically (I also put another views in it when needed). So, there will be some items which has ImageView in it and which don't.
I get the image to fill the ImageView from the Internet (through URL), decode it as Bitmap, and keep it as a Bitmap variable in a class represents the custom item layout (class PostItem).
When the activity shows for the first time it looks fine, but as I scrolled through the items then a problem showed up, the items which shouldn't show any image show the image from the other item which should, although they don't have any ImageView (because I didn't insert it).
I am using SDK 1.6 and the emulator. Haven't tried it in real device because I don't have it.
Here is my code for the Adapter:
CODE:..............
And this is the code to prepare the items:
CODE:.........................
Is this the bug in the emulator or there is some mistake in my code (probably memory problem for the Bitmap)?

I have a class that extends View. I override the onDraw method and allow the user to draw on the screen. I am at the point where I want to save this view as an image. I Can use buildDrawingCache and getDrawingCache to create a bitmap that I can write to the SD card. However, the image is not good quality at a large size, it has jagged edges. Since I have a View and I use Paths I can transform all by drawing to a bigger size. I just don't know how to make the Canvas bigger so when I call getDrawingCache it doesn't crop all the paths I am just transformed. What is happening is I transform all my paths but when I write the Bitmap to file I am only getting the "viewport" of the actual screen size. I want something much bigger.
