Android :: Yahoo IM Client That Handles Linked Accounts?
Jun 19, 2010
Does anyone know of a Yahoo IM client that handles linked (AKA Aliases) accounts? I have tried the following clients:
- Meebo
- Palringo
- IM +
- eBuddy
- Nimbuzz
- Hi Yahoo
- Yahoo Droid
They all have the same issue which is: I have linked yahoo accounts (a primary with other accounts linked). When I log into a yahoo account with the above clients and I receive an IM to a linked account, I receive the IM just fine, but when I respond to the IM, it will send from the primary (or logged in) account and NOT the account that IM was sent too. What SHOULD happen is the IM should be sent from the account that the IM was sent too just like the desktop app works.

I asked this in the other "Hero" subforum, but I thought I'd ask it here, too. I really like what I see from this phone, but I wonder how it handles multiple Gmail accounts. I have three Gmail accounts for different purposes. My iPhone 3G handles these with no problem. I don't see anything in the Hero manual that indicates that it will play well with multiple Gmail accounts.

So I've poked around a bit, and am mildly disappointed with what I've found so far in my search. I need a Twitter client that can actually reliably deal with two accounts, and not mix them up. I tweet for an organization as well as my own account, and cannot have it bugging up and switching accounts as I've heard that Twidroid does. FYI, I'm using the free version of Twidroid now, and have no complaints about it thus far, but I have not been wowed by it either. Does anyone have any experience with any other clients, or should I just suck it up and throw down for Twidroid? I don't mind paying for an app, as long as it functions solidly.

Surprised the phone doesn't have built in IM but I have tried a couple ebuddy and nimbuzz I think. Anyway I am looking for just a good client for yahoo messenger. I would like to be able to sign in as invisible and also have the option to switch to invisible once online. I have yet to find these features which I would think would be pretty standard. Was also looking for a program that would support webcam to a computer from the phone if that is even out there.

I've been having SMTP connection issues with Yahoo email for months. When I send an email via my yahoo account (using the native app), it fails to send perhaps 1/3 of the time. This is not a new problem, but seems to me to be getting worse. I simply get an "Unable to send mail" error notification. Usually, a couple at sync will make it successfully send. Or it will go out sooner or later if I wait. Tonight, it's not working at all.I've checked my settings, and they are all correct. And I do not have WiFi on. And as I said, it does work sometimes. But I did notice that if I try to re-confirm my settings using the setup wizard, it returns with a "server not responding" error for the SMTP settings tonight. I hadn't thought of doing this before, so I don't know if this is the usual issue, or "just tonight".Have others experienced this issue? I'm wondering if there is something broken locally, or whether Yahoo's servers are unreliable, or Note that all other network connectivity seems fine. And I have tried deleting and re-creating this account (on the handset), which has not helped - though I haven't tried it recently.

I have a Galaxy Nexus with Stock 4.0.4 ROM and a Transformer Prime also with the stock ASUS firmware (4.0.3), The company where I work has a mail server that supports exchange (Kerio Connect) At that server I have (because I need it that way) 2 different accounts, I need one of those accounts to synchronize everything; contacts, mail, calendar, and the other one to synchronize only calendar appointments.
If I configure the first account everything works just fine. But, when I configure the second account, I start receiving login errors for both accounts every certain time, the apps shows me the option to update my account credentials and when I do it works for the moment but after a while it fails again. If I delete whichever of the two accounts the other works fine.
I have not tested this scenario against other email servers, so I'm not sure if this a problem with my server or if this is an Android problem.
Both accounts are configured as Exchange accounts from Settings menu.

I've got working code that uses the gdata to retrieve feeds from my user's Google Finance portfolios, but I had to use setUserCredentials(username, password). What I'd like to do is avoid asking the user for their username/password since the Android device already has access to their Google account.
I believe I should be able to do this with setUserToken(String), but I can't figure out how to get the appropriate token from Android. I've tried AccountManager.get(context).blockingGetAuthToken() but that's either not the correct call or I'm passing it the wrong arguments. Has anyone gotten gdata working with the user's existing Google credentials on the phone?

I am just wondering about how android handles sms when it receives them. More precisely my question is when the android phone receives a sms message, which application saves the message to the mmssms database? Is this done by the OS or by the native sms application?

I have an issue with an application I'm writing for Android. Here's the problem: I need to create several EditText fields on the fly, while still maintaining some sort of handle to each individual one. For example: I create four EditText's, and I wish to submit the information from them to a server via an HTTP connection. How do I get the user-inputted data out of these EditText's after they have been created? (I guess what I'm asking is how exactly do I use the setId() method, because it doesn't seem to be working for me).

I have a HTC EVO 3D for months now and I've never experienced issues with it, but I aways have plenty of storage left and have done a system reset once so I don't know how it behaves. I'm very curious about this because I've explored some apps cache sizes and for example Facebook was about 50 MB. Is there a limit?
I'd like to know what happens when the internal storage runs out of space. Does Android (regardless of device / custom manufacturers "skins") automatically take care of deleting old cache files from apps?
I mean, if you run out of internal storage in a Nexus device, what happens?

Question about Gmail on the Eris Droid.
Has anyone noticed a difference in settings, functionality, or battery life by using the integrated Gmail client as compared to using the Other e-mail which uses an IMAP client??
You set this up at initial startup.

I have the following setup:
Desire
Aux Input (for music)
SuperTooth One BlueTooth Hands Free
When I drive, I use the HTC Desire to play the sat nav instructions and music out of the Aux to the stereo however, if I enable Bluetooth, all music and commands are sent through the Bluetooth receiver instead.
On the iPhone, you have the option to route audio through headphones socket or through the BT device - but cannot find out how to do it on the Desire.
Are there any applications that make it possible to route calls out via BT and everything else out over the Aux?

I'm writing an app which contains three tabs.. let's just call them TabA, TabB, and TabC.
In my main class which extends TabActivity I have a Bluetooth Adapter which handles sending and receiving messages. I initialize the BluetoothAdapter onStart. Part of the initialization tries to reference controls on the three tabs. But my problem is that only TabA (my default tab) has been initialized at this point so when it tries to access TabB and TabC, they're still null.. How can I initialize all 3 activities, and access controls on each of the tabs when receiving messages from the BluetoothAdapter? (Basically I want TabA to contain a TextView to log all messages, TabB will contain a few controls like sliders and checkboxes that will change based on the messages recieved, and TabC will just have an array of buttons that send specific data..)

I am pretty happy about that. The little summary pop up boxes come up and everything. There is no need for a app for that, just a bookmark for me.

I am trying to understand whether or not Android handles the phone conversation's audio stream or it is done outside Android's framework. Specifically, if, for example, Android controls a cellular processor that provides PCM interface for voice conversation and there is a need to send audio over Bluetooth instead of using mic/speakers, how this is handled? There are two ways here to the best of my understanding:
1. Route PCM from cellular to audio port on Android CPU, then let Android receive the stream and send it to BT stack for processing and eventually pushing to BT hardware over HCI 2. Have Android control a HW switch that will route PCM directly to BT HW using direct PCM interface Which one applies? Is there a preferable way (best usage of resources provided by Android)?

I've got the htc legend and its an awesome phone. I just wanted to ask to get an idea of how android works on relation to how it handles apps/processes etc. Using a task manager I see that tonnes of apps start when the phone boots. I see apps like app brain, msn talk,.radio, twitter app, stocks, footprints, maps and a whole plethora of others. What makes them start like this? What's the purpose? Do they have a negative impact on performance? It seems like all the apps listed see ones which have shortcuts on the home screen or related widgets. Is this how it works? Although they are listed date saree are they actually taking up system resources? And then there's ones like radio and stocks which I never use and don't have home screen shortcuts for, but they still start. Sometimes when mass kill apps (not processes) it sorta freezes for a while then has to reload the home screen. None of the apps I killed were essential ones, happens sometimes when I kill a bunch of third party apps. Would it be beneficial to kill most of the listed apps which apart on startup that I never use? I try to refrain from using the task manager but Coming from windows I'm just used to massacring all unnecessary processes and programs to keep everything clean.

I remembered from my G1 days a way to sync the E-Mail app up to Yahoo's free (not PoP3) servers so I gave it try on my new BH2 and it works just fine:Here are the steps:
1. Enter Yahoo ID and Password (hint, just use your "username", not the whole joeblow@yahoo.com
2. Select Manual Setup
3. Setup IMAP
4. Incoming server is imap.mail.yahoo.com
5. Port is 143
6. Security Type is "TLS (if available)"
7. Leave IMAP path prefix blank
8. Hit next
9. SMTP Server is smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
10. Port is 25
11. Security is again TLS (if available)
12. Check Require sign-in
13. Verify username and password
14. enjoy
To Sync up, you CANNOT be on WiFi (dunno why, maybe Yahoo has a deal with T-Mobile?).One other note: if after rechecking all your settings and it still says "invalid username/password" try going onto your Yahoo Account and change your "Location" to ASIA ! Weird I know, but for some reason, some people can't get this to work with US-English as their Yahoo Locale (not talking about your phone's settings here, all on Yahoo site end!).

Any thought on how the Marketplace handles the information related to the marketplace applications? I wonder if the request is posted to the marketplace every time client is started or if some of the available applications data is stored locally and refreshed by the background service.

Android AMF client library Aftek has extensive experience in developing enterprise Flex applications. We have used BlazeDS extensively and we believe that it would nice to provide all the benefits provided by AMF for Android applications as well. We have developed an Android AMF client library which would enable Android application developers use the same extensively. The Android AMF client library supports remoting and secured remoting. This will allow all android applications to use the existing backend like .NET, Java, or PHP. The implementation is asynchronous in nature providing success and failure callbacks. This allows application to perform other tasks without blocking the application. We are currently performing some performance benchmarking and plan to release our library very soon. We would also be incorporating the messaging feature as well.
Android RTMP client library:Aftek has extensive experience in developing voip and audio/video and media applications. Media applications has a huge market and there would be quite a few people eager to develop the medial applications on Android. We believe that it would nice to provide all the benefits provided by RTMP for Android applications as well. We are developing an Android RTMP client library which would enable Android application developers use the same extensively. Our Android RTMP client library would support some add-ons that would help developers to deliver robust media solutions.

Someone upgraded my app, and receive this message "The linked program is no longer installed on the phone" What did I do wrong to cause this? The app and the upgrade were signed with the same key as far as I know. Some of the builds were on a linux machine, and other were on Windows. Could that cause this message?
