Android :: WikiNote - Application Build Compilation Error

Has anyone got the WikiNote from
http://code.google.com/p/apps-for-android/
What I did was:
1) Checkedout the project via apps-for-android instructions
[svn checkout http://apps-for-android.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ apps-for-android-read-only]
2) Opened a new Android project using existing source dir [per the WikiNote direction]
3) Cleaned the project and let it rebuild
It won't build the APK though and reports compilation errors (the top level dir is flagged red in eclipse but nothing else is so I can't track down where the error supposedly is)

I am new to android. i am try to compile android kernel 3.4.0 for HTC device.After running cross compile command,

I decompile an apk (an ordinary TSF Shell theme) without any problem but when it comes to recompiling. Its always the same error. Trying this for a week with apktool, tickle my android and with apk multi tool. When I send my decompiled files to my friends they can compile it but on my computer at home or at work I get the same error forever. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installed. You can see installed java version on the code.

I downloaded the Android 2.2 source code and try to build it. When I executed the make command, I got an error here like this build/core/java.mk:20: *** frameworks/ex/common: Invalid LOCAL_SDK_VERSION '8' Choices are: current 4 5 6 7. Stop. Then I changed the frameworks/ex/common/Android.mk to LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 8 from LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 7. Next place, build/core/java.mk:20: *** external/jsr305: Invalid LOCAL_SDK_VERSION '8' Choices are: current 4 5 6 7. Stop. I changed the external/jsr305/Android.mk to LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 8 from LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 7
Last one, build/core/java.mk:20: *** external/guava: Invalid LOCAL_SDK_VERSION '8' Choices are: current 4 5 6 7. Stop. I changed the external/guava/Android.mk to LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 8 from LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 7
By these changes the code started the compilation.
1. Why the error occured?
2. Changes which I did is correct or not?

Currently I supply a user with a URL to click on to download my j2me application. This URL includes their user id as a parameter, a servlet takes this information and dynamically creates a jad file that includes this user id , thus making the user id available to the j2me app.
However, I am now using j2me polish to compile my program and thus have the compiled .apk for this same program. However, I cannot work out how to make this information accessible to the the compiled program as there is no jad / jar mechanism. The information is only available at the time of download.
Any suggestions gratefully received! (is this even possible in an android application?)

I'm attempting to test one of my applications in the SDK1.5 environment, but when it tries to build, I get this error:

If you go ahead and use "--core-library" but are in fact building an application, then please be aware that your build will still fail at some point; you will simply be denied the pleasure of reading this helpful error message.
But I've tested my other application in the environment, and it worked fine. I've looked through my imports, and none of my files import NumericShaper, so I'm confused as to why it seems to think that it is being referenced.

UPD: I found a discussion, that claims, that problem could be that I'm having 64bit libs on my 32bit system.

I've the latest 1.6 sdk. I would like to build the project on 1.5 as well as on 1.6. New 1.6 also comes with 1.5. My build succeeds, but I get a bunch of error --- Not sure if I screwed the java env setup?

I just switched the way my Android project is being built and non of my unit tests work any more...I get errors like WARN/dalvikvm(575): VFY: unable to resolve static field X in WARN/dalvikvm(575): VFY: unable to find class referenced in signature These errors only come from my Unit Tests, where classes defined in it can't even see other classes defined in the unit test. Before each project had it's own directory with copies of the 3rd party jar files. I've read around that Dex does weird things with references but haven't been able to figure out how to fix this problem. Is there a better way to do this? I would love to see an example of a large Android workspace where there are multiple projects, jar references, etc.Is it possible to fix this with an Order/Export tweak ?

I am in need of help to complete my application. I am trying to execute a project that uses and android library. Basically I am trying to execute the android facebook sdk to run the sample code provided at http://github.com/facebook/facebook-android-sdk 1. I have downloaded the sdk and extracted the zip file to a folder 2. I used Eclipse galileo import to create an android project from existing resource. I imported the sdk source code (facebook folder of the sdk) into my project explorer successfully. I can also run Build Project for this source code. 3. Whenever I do a Clean on my project, I get 2 errors:
1.) The project is missing gen folder.
2.) There is a build path error.
I go to "Configure build path" and uncheck "Android 1.6". It works. If I do this again, I go and this time check "Android 1.6". It again works.

This is more of an Eclipse error than an Android or Ant error. My Eclipse project won't build because when it sees the build.xml created from the Android command, it starts looking for the debug and release commands. Well, since they are dynamically generated from the <setup> task, they don't exist. So now Eclipse (Build id: 20100218-1602) locking the project from build/run based on these errors. kay.. so here is the weird part: It worked this morning. In fact it has been working for weeks with the build.xml file sitting there. All I did was edit the build.xml file in Eclipse (changed some constants). Ant thinks everything is peachy.

I am a complete novice to the field of Android applications. I want to build a basic Android application of an "website alert and post service".
Eg: Lets take FACEBOOK or TWITTER as the website.The application which I design should intimate me about the new posts or tweets of my friends. At the same time I must be able to post or tweet just by opening a text box in the application and writing in it. As soon as I write, the message should get posted or tweeted on the website.
I am not sure about the complexity of the above application but I feel this would reduce the trouble of opening a browser, typing the website name and then logging in by putting the username and password.

I need to build compass for my application.
From reading the documentation it seems there are two reasonable ways of doing this:
Sensor.TYPE_ORIENTATION method: This is the easy way of doing it. The problem with this is it is not accurate. When I compare my reading with Snaptic Compass it is about 10-15 degress off which for my purposes is unacceptable.
Sensor.TYPE_ACCELEROMETER, Sensor.TYPE_MAGNETIC_FIELD and getRotationMatrix() in conjunction with remapCoordinateSystem() and getOrientation() method: The documentation says this "is usually more accurate". The problem is regardless of the delay I register with listener the compass goes crazy even when the device is stationary on flat surface.

I am currently finding about how to build a XMPP client application on android 2.1.I came across this link which somewhat talks about the same problem.I am a newbie to android dev and thus found the solution given there to be difficult to digest.
The system currently has Active MQ as a JMS provider.My job is to fed the messages coming from JMS to the XMPP server and then develope XMPP client on android 2.1 which will listen and show notification to the events pushed by the server. I have following concerns(which might sound foolish)

On my Mac I installed Eclipse, the SDK and created a new project, then hit build expecting to see my first helloworld app.I got the error "the project cannot be built until build path errors are fixed".After going thru all the path-like options in Preferences, I noticed that on the tab "Java Build Path" the "Google APIs [Android 2.2]" option did not have its check box checked.Checking it made the problem go away.It works now and I can see the app in the Emulator Have I not set up my environment correctly? I used all the defaults in Eclipse and the Android SDK.
