Android :: Build Droid Without Phone Application?

Jul 5, 2010

I'm trying to get android running on a gumstix overo system.
since i'm not planning to use the final "product" as a phone, i asked my self if it is possible to exclude applications like the phone/dialer-app from the kernel build-process (any config parameter probably?)=

How To Build A Basic Android Application

Oct 3, 2011

I am a complete novice to the field of Android applications. I want to build a basic Android application of an "website alert and post service".

Eg: Lets take FACEBOOK or TWITTER as the website. The application which I design should intimate me about the new posts or tweets of my friends. At the same time I must be able to post or tweet just by opening a text box in the application and writing in it. As soon as I write, the message should get posted or tweeted on the website.

I am not sure about the complexity of the above application but I feel this would reduce the trouble of opening a browser, typing the website name and then logging in by putting the username and password.

Android :: Not Accurate - Build Compass For My Application

May 4, 2010

I need to build compass for my application.

From reading the documentation it seems there are two reasonable ways of doing this:

Sensor.TYPE_ORIENTATION method: This is the easy way of doing it. The problem with this is it is not accurate. When I compare my reading with Snaptic Compass it is about 10-15 degress off which for my purposes is unacceptable.

Sensor.TYPE_ACCELEROMETER, Sensor.TYPE_MAGNETIC_FIELD and getRotationMatrix() in conjunction with remapCoordinateSystem() and getOrientation() method: The documentation says this "is usually more accurate". The problem is regardless of the delay I register with listener the compass goes crazy even when the device is stationary on flat surface.

Android :: WikiNote - Application Build Compilation Error

Sep 26, 2009

Has anyone got the WikiNote from
http://code.google.com/p/apps-for-android/

What I did was:
1) Checkedout the project via apps-for-android instructions
[svn checkout http://apps-for-android.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ apps-for-android-read-only]
2) Opened a new Android project using existing source dir [per the WikiNote direction]
3) Cleaned the project and let it rebuild

It won't build the APK though and reports compilation errors (the top level dir is flagged red in eclipse but nothing else is so I can't track down where the error supposedly is)

Motorola Droid X : Attempted To Use The New Build.prop File To Fix - Phone No Longer Boots

Aug 21, 2010

I attempted to use the new build.prop file to fix the market issue where some paid apps were not found for download.

Here is the process I used:

Download build.prop, place it on SD card. Use Root Explorer to copy build.prop into system/Deleted old build.prop file from system/ (I made a copy of the original and placed it in a folder on my SD card as a backup) Turned phone off. Turned phone back on and got to the Motorola logo, then the screen is black (backlight is still working, the screen is technically on, there just isn't anything on it).

Phone never gets to the boot animation and will not boot back up. Anyone know how I can fix this without having to flash the SBF 2.1 file again and re-root, install 2.2 update.zip, and download/setup all of my apps?

Android :: Build Error Build/core/java.mk:20 On 2.2

Jun 24, 2010

I downloaded the Android 2.2 source code and try to build it. When I executed the make command, I got an error here like this build/core/java.mk:20: *** frameworks/ex/common: Invalid LOCAL_SDK_VERSION '8' Choices are: current 4 5 6 7. Stop. Then I changed the frameworks/ex/common/Android.mk to LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 8 from LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 7. Next place, build/core/java.mk:20: *** external/jsr305: Invalid LOCAL_SDK_VERSION '8' Choices are: current 4 5 6 7. Stop. I changed the external/jsr305/Android.mk to LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 8 from LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 7

Last one, build/core/java.mk:20: *** external/guava: Invalid LOCAL_SDK_VERSION '8' Choices are: current 4 5 6 7. Stop. I changed the external/guava/Android.mk to LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 8 from LOCAL_SDK_VERSION = 7
By these changes the code started the compilation.

1. Why the error occured?
2. Changes which I did is correct or not?

Android :: ADT Causing CDT To Build All C Projects On Android Application Launch?

Aug 27, 2010

I doubt there are too many people who run CDT in eclipse for native apps also with ADT installed for Android, but in the off-chance that someone here knows anything about this, my problem is that any time I run any android app, my C builder kicks in for projects totally unrelated. I have no idea why and have been digging through settings on everything, unable to find out why. All I can think is that the ADT pre-launch process triggers it via a refresh or some kind of catch- all type call in eclipse API land that I'm unaware of. Does anyone know anything about this? It's very annoying to have a C builder run for a different project than the one you're working on every time you launch the app.

Android : How To Build Droid Project?

Oct 26, 2009

I am trying to build android source code (specifically the applications such as the alarm clock, calendar) and when I do this using eclipse, there are 1000+ errrors being thrown possibly due to mismatch of class path and other environmental settings. Can somebody please help in terms of any said steps to follow for building the application projects under android using eclipse? This is important since I need to debug certain issues and due to failure of compiling I am unable to debug via Eclipse as debug requires an open project compiled successfully to be present. FYI- I have installed the DDMS plugin and ADT successfully and am able to communicate with the target successfully using eclipse, but unfortunately not able to debug due to the above said reasons.

Android :: Change Target Build On Droid Project?

Jul 27, 2010

I currently have an Android project in Eclipse.

I created it with a target build of 1.5 (sdk 3).

Now I want to change it so that it has a minSdk of 3 and targetSdk of 8.

To do this I see that I must build against the newest SDK (2.2)

To do this in Eclipse I right click on my project, go to properties, click on Android and change the project build target to Android 2.2 and click apply and then ok.

However this appears to have no affect and when I try it again the target build is set back at Android 1.5.

Am I missing a step or something?

Android :: Determine Revision Number Of Droid Build?

May 25, 2010

I know how to get the API level, android.os.Build.VERSION.SDK_INT, but there are also several revisions of each level release, e.g. for 2.1 there's rev 1 and 2. How do I determine the revision of a build?

The reason i'd like to know this is that I have a workaround for a bug in Android 2.1 (and 2.2), and this workaround will break the moment the corresponding bug is fixed. So right now i'm in the odd position of hoping that the bug won't be fixed (at least not until I can find an answer to above question).
