Funny topic maybe, but I feel like I have a decent hold on app development, widget development, and even made a game. I'd like to tinker with creating a home screen replacement but havn't been able to dig up any examples or good places to start. Does anyone have any recommendations or links that might help out?

I cooked this up and wanted to share. By following the instructions here I was able to customize my N1 homescreen with the 3rd greatest British rock band; The Who! You will need ADW or LauncherPro and Desktop Visualizer and of course photo editing skills if you want to make a custom screen.

Any idea if this app is no longer available or do I have to download it elsewhere?

It'd be nice if they allowed you to change wallpapers, and/or the side color rainbow thing. But all in all I love it. And I am not complaining. Go to Slide Screen by Larva Labs. Or search it in the Market.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI tried Home++ yesterday and didn't like it too much although I may just have to try it again. I didn't care for that "power strip" in Home++ either (can you turn it off?). I wished it would import all the icons from my regular home screen into Home++ so I don't have to re-create everything. Does anyone else out there have a better home screen replacement program? I saw people talking about GDE but I couldn't find the actual application in the Market Place. I also looked at the Panda Home but from the screen shots, it looked weird. I like the plain-jane version that came with my phone. I don't want fancy skins or colors or bells and whistles.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI just found this on gizmodo this morning. Slide Screen is a new home replacement app that "creates a meaningful hierarchy out of a your information". It's really quite awesome. I went ahead and bought the pro version. I've only been using it for about 2 hours or so, but if you enjoy organized information, this is fantastic.

how to write a custom home-screen replacement application? Can any application be a home-screen by just registering it with a CATEGORY_HOME intent?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been working on a replacement for the stock Car Home app for a bit, and I am completely stumped on how to override the Home button so that my app will be brought back to the foreground whenever the phone is docked. This is the way that Car Home works, so there must be a way. It seems that BroadcastReceivers won't work, because the intent that is broadcast whenever the Home button is pressed will still cause the default homescreen app to launch; I cannot prevent it. I can override the Home button from within my app, but that does me no good since this needs to work when the user is outside my app. Car Home also does not do anything weird like set itself as the default homescreen app while it's running (I checked the logcat to make sure).
I've been really beating my head against the wall on this. Does anyone have any ideas, or can you at least point me in the right direction?
Has anyone been successful showing a notification, starting an activity, or loading the home screen *during* a call on the Droid? All three of these actions can be done with the emulator running 2.0, but will not run from the Droid. I don't receive any type of notification that these actions fail on the Droid. Although, every action works when a call is *not* active. Missed calls during a call *do* show up in the notification bar, so I am hoping there is a way.
I understand that the notification bar can not be accessed by users during calls, but it would be nice if a notification could at least be delivered. I also understand the security and usability concerns of displaying a window or action during phone calls. Although, there are a lot of users who would like actionable functionality based on calls.
Just downloaded this from the android market...new app is great...great interface...Has reflective type menu on the bottom that you can slde across to view different shortcuts, cannot customize menu yet but im sure it will be available in next update.

Today with my left hand (not primary for me) I'm tried to drop down notification bar and ... again Icons and Widgets start floating, constantly moving and whole my 5 home screens was compiled in one and I can scroll this summary screen.
How to do that again.Device is LT18i Android 4.0.4, stock .587 kernel, installed just this XPERIA Ultimate HD MOD[ver:1.3][ ICS.587/.431] but first time with floating widgets effects was w/o this mod.

When using a home replacment like Helix, Home++, etc. does the android home still run in the background and reduce performance? I had a lot of stuff on my stock home but just switched to Helix so how do i stop/disable stock home if it is running?

Now I can't close my application and I can't uninstall it . (This was what I wanted, but not now!! my application was still under development. ) How I can now uninstall it and return to the default home? What i really want is a home replacement that mimics the normal launcher on 2.1 but has extra screens. I don't need anything fancy, i just want more screens and perhaps an infinity scroll feature. is there anything like that? even a custom rom maybe? does cyanogen offer more screens?
Just relaying my usual FYI (might want to know) development... The group that was working on theming android has pretty much been a complete success... We now can change the animation along with the colors of the bar and other cool stuff...This requires a rooted moment tho so can not be applied to totally stock

View 15 Replies View Related(before question shout out to how great home ++ is) ok so i've tried ish some home replacements before(and by tried i mean installed didnt like look or quite get it and uninstall(when i first got phone)). i started to youtube home++ became very intrested and installed it and love it so far! great alternative i think everyone should try it out! ok now to question this is my first time posting so hello all! now that i have home++ installed i notice that my original "home screen" is always running in the background,so is there a way to "deactivate"(for lack of better terminology). doesnt it take up cpu/gpu resources and then new home screen does also in turn draining battery or slowing phone down? if no way to deactivate should i goto original and turn off stuff like live wallpapers and also remove any widgets that update regularly so i dont have it running twice?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an HTC Evo that hangs up on everyone that calls me.I keep the phone in my pocket and, in trying to pull it out to answer a call, my leg slides the bar.I could keep the phone in my pocket upside down and then I would answer every call but that isn't much of an alternative.I am looking for something that overrides the Sense's lockscreen/answer screen.I tried both GoTo and WidgetLocker.Both are great programs but neither addresses the incoming call issue.

It is by far the fastest most stable home replacement I have ever used. It is in the market so I suggest you check it out if you are looking for something different!
View 10 Replies View RelatedJust found this one on the market last night, its called PandaHero-Hero Style, by Honeybee apps. It is an actual full app that makes the phone almost exactly like a HTC-Hero. I love it so far, so easy to use and looks really good, it is pretty intuitive.
