Android :: When Is Good Time To Require 1.5?

Apr 30, 2009

I'd like to add widget support to my app, but I suppose that it'll take quite a while until 1.5 is globally rolled out. I assume that widget support means that I need to compile against 1.5 and set up the minSdkVersion to 3, so I'll effectively lock out anybody with 1.1. Other than adding a second version of the same app for 1.5, what's the best way to approach this? Wait a couple of months until 1.5 is globally spread? (Assuming that all carriers even decide to roll it out in the first place.)

Samsung I7500 :: Good Time For Big Thanks

Nov 9, 2009

Looking in the forum there it seems to be non-stop issues and problems that continuously quickly get sorted out, and I thought this would be a good time to quickly thank everyone on here who is helping all the time, literally answering the same questions over and over!

Particularly devan and rastaman who in the last 2days have made my phone go from a crap slow h8 to speedy fast hero-look-a-like that can finally play speedforge! But those are just two of the many that I wont list for fear of leaving someone out, but you know who you are.

HTC Incredible :: A Good Time To Upgrade?

Sep 7, 2010

Ok so after messing around with both the X and Incredible and literally WAY too much time spent researching, Ive pretty much made my decision with the Incredible. But now it has me thinking again. Is it really a good time to upgrade? I feel like the Incredible is starting to phase out a little (Or thats the feeling I get from some people) and I wonder if maybe I should just wait for the next HTC phone, or if this is the perfect time to upgrade.Im still unsure if I can do a 1 year plan(I need to talk to a VZN rep) instead of a 2 year plan, but if I can I would be a little more comfortable upgrading from my dinky LG Dare right now. Again, do you personally think it is a good time to upgrade to my first smartphone or simply waiting a little while for something else to come along?PS. I also keep hearing about an Incredible 2.any news on that?

General :: Moving Good For Enterprise App Between Roms Without Activating Each Time

Jul 3, 2012

Moving Good for Enterprise around from rom to rom?

I have a Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) and was looking to test out Jelly Bean, or at least move to the stock image once available.

Problem is with Good for Enterprise..it's no longer hosted by my company and as an IT admin I used to be able to root, rom, reset my activation pin, etc.

Currently the parent company has a 1 and done activation (very annoying); so if I flash I have to wait for another activation?

Anyhow, was wondering if I were to take a backup of it and all its glory with Titanium backup, move to another rom and restore it, would it allow me to preserve my activation? I sort of tried it once, but it would never get any new email upon restore, so I was wondering if its really possible or if I am out of luck there?

Android :: Why Do Screenshots Require Rooted Phone?

Sep 3, 2010

What's the reason that a phone needs to be rooted in order to take screenshots? I'm almost in disbelief that something as simple as a screenshot app isn't available (or built-in!) for an unrooted phone. It just seems like such a normal thing to do.Is it possible that in the future an unrooted phone can have an app to do this, or is there something about Android itself that doesn't allow it?

Android : Why Do Screenshot Utilities Require Rooting?

Oct 18, 2009

Why do Android screenshot utilities only work on rooted devices? Linux distributions and desktop environments provide user-space screen capture tools. Why can't Android? I wonder what are the technical issues, if any, that prevent this. The only user-space procedure I am aware of, i.e. installing about 1 GB worth of development tools on a PC, hooking it to an Android device via USB, and disabling some of its funzionality (e.g. SD card access), is not user-friendly.

Android : Why Does Sensor Manager.registerListener Require A Handler

Oct 4, 2010

(sensor Manager is a SensorManager) I'm trying to implement an orientation listener for my program. I declare the listener as a SensorEventListener. The API says I need to pass registerListener a SensorEventListener, Sensor, rate, and handler. What is the handler for?

Also, when I mouse over the error, it insists I use the deprecated version of the method for a SensorListener instead of a SensorEventListener. And this deprecated version doesn't require a handler. Anyone know why?

Android : Open ID For Apps That Require Sign In / Supporting Framework?

Jul 25, 2010

I am a fresh developer on Googles Android Platform - my HTC Desire arrived last week. Now i need a way to sign in to my existing application (Java, currently running on jetty). The server Application is developed using spring security 3.0.2

In my case, i want to support the following: If a user has set up his Android phone with a googlemail/google-Account (and most users do) i want to use this account credentials to automagically log in to my server app.

Is there any Android framework supporting that use-case? Or are there any alternatives? I read: http code.google.com intl/de-DE/apis/accounts/docs/OpenID.html

How we do sign in with an app on google AppEnging is described here: http://blog.notdot.net/2010/05/Authenticating-against-App-Engine-from-an-Android-app
