Android :: What Does HTC Sense Clear Data Actually Clear?
Jun 24, 2010
What exactly does HTC Sense Clear Data actually clear? That may be a solution to reverting back to 5 homescreen pages instead of 7 without having to do a factory reset. Just curious as to what I am going to mess up? Will i just have to personalize the homescreen again, put widgets up, reconnect to fb, twitter, myfaves, etc. It's not going remove any 3rd party apps, just make me create new widgets, etc..?

I'm developing an app that is a shell in which a user will purchase and load business information from 29 separate, purchasable regions in the US. These regions are database driven, and I'm still modifying the database for 2014 data. This is a test environment. The problem I'm having is that once I've simulated the purchase of a region (let's say, Chicago), my device apparently caches that data, so that when I update the database, the updates don't push through. I've tried clearing the cache on the app, erasing all the app data, and disabling the Backup & Restore feature on the device, then completely uninstalling the APK. But when I reinstall a the APK from scratch, it installs with the Chicago region already showing as having been purchased, still showing the old database data.
how can I get the APK to reinstall as if for the very first time, with no previous purchases or downloads, so that it pulls fresh data from the DB?

I really need to free up some space for future downloads. Before I just go ahead and clear data for random apps there are a few I'm quite sceptical about doing this to in-case it deletes certain things that can take a while to get back to the way it was before, if at all.
*HTC SENSE 2.42MB I don't use sense I use LauncherPro and don't plan on going back to sense in the near future.
*Facebook 2.52MB
*Facebook for HTC Sense 9.08MB <- I don't use this, I only use the above Dloadable app from the market.
*Google Maps 1.48MB
*Contract storage 9.52MB really? HOW? if i was to remove all my contacts and save them to my sim instead would this sort out the issue? I've noticed over time that certain contacts I have like 10 duplicates for, I think this is because I had difficulty getting facebook profile pics as contact pics. Is there away for me to go through every contact and delete these unneeded, useless contacts?
Are the main ones id like to find out about.
The following few apps I'm guessing if I clear this data it will remove certain settings from my phone but I would still like some info on this if possible.
*Settings 14.74MB
*Astro File Manager 96.00KB Manage space? what will that do?
*FolderOrganizer 1.11MB im guessing that will remove folders & icons if i was to clear this data?

I have a Motorola XT626 (IronRock) its a dual sim (Iden/gsm-3g) with android 2.3.6.At first time, both SIMs, nextel and the other carrier, if putted from the beginning there is no problem. But when trying to change the SIM, to use an other phone number or upgrading the SIM model. It forces to erase private data.Message says: "A new SIM card is being used. All private data must be cleared before you can continue"If no option its selected it erases it, hate to do a backup to just change the SIM or imposible to change the SIM on the fly.Its Rooted, so looking forward to edit any file and line in the db files to fix this problem.

I did a search and didn't find anything recent...is there a program that works with 2.1 that will automatically clear the caches for you instead of having to go into the settings and do them one by one? Also, what does the "clear data" option do?

Finally got Velocity installed and setup the way I like it. It's a tremendous improvement in overall performance compared to the stock. Kudos to Trident for taking the time to put this together for all of us. I only have one problem with it that I hope I can do something about or I may end up back on the stock ROM. Velocity comes with the latest Google maps version, which I hate because you can't clear the data so over time the app builds up more and more used space. Since I use the Google Maps Navigation pretty much everyday for work, that's going to be a small problem. Does anyone know if there is an app out there that allows you to clear the map data periodically? Or is there a way I can push the stock Map app into Velocity and do what I did before and simply ignore the update notices? I know I can just keep uninstalling it and reinstalling it periodically and i may end up doing that if there is no way to clear the data because I would really like to keep Velocity. I hope this doesn't come across as a knock on Velocity because it's not meant to be. I think it's a tremendous upgrade to the Ally and if it wasn't for my unique situation of using Google Maps so much, I wouldn't even be asking.

I clear that will it delete everything out of my calendar (and then sync up to Google calendar wiping all my events? Or will it clear everything on the phone and then start to re-populate the phone calendar with my online Google calendar? Is there somewhere in android you tell it to only sync X number of weeks with the calendar - I vaguely remember seeing this before but I forget where.

If I clear the data in the "Contacts Storage" tab of "Manage Applications" will this only delete the data stored on the phone itself or will it also delete the contact on the exchange server as well? I have some contacts that are duplicates because they were put in the phone before I was able to get the exchange sync set up resulting in an entry for exchange and an entry for phone when in the "People" area.

So I did a factory reset and all of my downloaded applications were still there. I thought it clears all of your downloaded apps and it was supposed to clear all of my settings. Such as display and sound settings which it also didn't do. Is this the way its supposed to work or not.

Is there a way to clear our Activity stack? For example, a user in my app progresses through these activities, one is launched from the previous activity: ActivityA -> ActivityB -> ActivityC if the user is now looking at ActivityC, and they hit the back button, they will go back to ActivityB. Is it possible to add a menu to ActivityC where the user can clear their activity stack, and then launch a new instance of ActivityA? This would be so the user can jump to a particular activity in my application without getting confused with the back button + history,

I am having trouble popping all activities off the stack using ntent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP and android:launchMode="singleInstance". In my application activity A, launches activity B (via startActivity) which in turn launches activity C (via startActivity). On activity C the user presses a menu item to return to activity A. When they arrive at activity A, I want only A on the stack such that if they click the back button they return to the home screen (desktop). This is the code that I am currently using when the user presses a button to return to A: Intent i = new Intent(this, A.class); i.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ ACTIVITY_ CLEAR_TOP); startActivity(i); All activities are defined as android:launchMode ="single Instance" in the project manifest. My code doesn't seem to work though. Once I'm back on activity A if I click the back button I return to activity C. Am I misunderstanding how to use Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP?

I am wondering how you would cancel a notification when you are not the party executing the associated Intent. For example, think about an Intent like ACTION_VIEW and a data/url like http://google.com. This intent is then wrapped into a PendingNotification and used by a notification. So when the user clicks on the notification the intent is fired, the browser opens, but the notification is not cancelled. As my code is not the receiver of the Intent how should I cancel it?

I have read many examples of how to create notification messages. What i wanted to achieve, is because the notification will be executed by a widget, i would like the notification intent when clicked to clear it self when the user clicks on it.I do not have an activity to return to.The notification for my purposes will just plainly notify, nothing else.So what would be the code of an intent that just clear/cancel itself. The code below is an activity launched by a button(button code not included) the notification will be fired up by a background service.
