i build application....and i want to back up my database when user click "clear data" in manage application... because data is lost...some data is very critical for process in my application...how can i solved this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working on some sample programs, where i have to take the value from the user and store it in the database. I have used DroidDraw to create the XML code for UI.For now, I have just started with a textbox. So, I have to take the value from this textbox and store it in a database. I am using SQlite browser to create tables. I read in some forums, that one way of doing this.
1. Copy the db file in the asset folder of the android project and use the AssetManager class. But i am not able to figure out how to use the asset manager class here. Or if I could get some simpler suggestions on how to store the value from user into the database, it would be great.
I am trying to design a sqlite database that will store notes. Each of these notes will have common fields like title, due date, details, priority, and completed.
In addition though, I would like to add data for more specialized notes like price for shopping list items and author/publisher data for books.
I also want to have a few general purpose fields that users can fill with whatever text data they want. How can I design my database table in this case?
I could just have a field for each piece of data for every note, but that would waste a lot of fields and I'd like to have other options and suggestions.
Is there a way for an Android user to browse the SQLite databases on his/her phone and view the data in the databases?
I use the SoftTrace beta program a lot. It's great but has no way that I can find to download the data it tracks to a PC.

Finally got Velocity installed and setup the way I like it. It's a tremendous improvement in overall performance compared to the stock. Kudos to Trident for taking the time to put this together for all of us. I only have one problem with it that I hope I can do something about or I may end up back on the stock ROM. Velocity comes with the latest Google maps version, which I hate because you can't clear the data so over time the app builds up more and more used space. Since I use the Google Maps Navigation pretty much everyday for work, that's going to be a small problem. Does anyone know if there is an app out there that allows you to clear the map data periodically? Or is there a way I can push the stock Map app into Velocity and do what I did before and simply ignore the update notices? I know I can just keep uninstalling it and reinstalling it periodically and i may end up doing that if there is no way to clear the data because I would really like to keep Velocity. I hope this doesn't come across as a knock on Velocity because it's not meant to be. I think it's a tremendous upgrade to the Ally and if it wasn't for my unique situation of using Google Maps so much, I wouldn't even be asking.

1. The ContentProvider class is registered in the kernel when the application is installed and then what? Or how do the other applications exactly manage to access the application data?
2. When is actually onCreate called? The documentation is pretty vague...
3. What happens if two applications register the same provider class? (I have more applications that must communicate between eachother. The content provider must be registered, of course, along with the first application installed on the system. The problem here is that I don't know which one will be, so I want to deliver the ContentProvider with all the applications)

Situation is, i have a listview that when an item is clicked, it creates an intent and calls startActivityForResult() to another activity, to be able to edit the entries in the row. and that other activity after editing the required values, returns back to the calling activity, when the user clicks on a save button. The activity then uses the row Id to update the item.My problem now is that, if the user presses the BACK button instead, the application crashes. i have been looking around and see solutions like using Shared Preferences or onSavedInstanceState(), but i don't know where exactly i should be putting the code?

I can get back to the top (Parent activity) by using the Back button, which can take a while. Is there a way to "POP" back to the Parent activity and dismiss all previously allocated activities, and not have to go back through all the activities previously created?
I export my application to .apk file, sign it then install it. But when I run my App, it displays an error because there's no data in my database. What exactly does HTC Sense Clear Data actually clear? That may be a solution to reverting back to 5 homescreen pages instead of 7 without having to do a factory reset. I have a widget that displays an analog clock. What I would like is for the the widget to write to a database the time when a user clicks on the widget. I've already got the databaseHelper class and have an Activity that displays a screen showing the current date and time and writes the time to a database.The AskTheTime class extends activity and logs to the database in onCreate(). But this means that it displays only the time when the widget was started - not when it was clicked. (I guess this is because I'm starting a pendingIntent) I'm not sure If I should put the database write in another method or if I should be using Intents to do this sort of thing from widgets. Any pointers would be great! I've look at several tutorials for intents but none of them seem very clear to me.
