after setListAdapter() calls I would like to execute the following code:

Android :: ListView And ListActivity
Jun 30, 2009I create a ListView in my activity and set its ChoiceMode to CHOICE_MODE_SINGLE, I also set its layout to simple_list_item_single_choice. But when i click on it onItemSelected() is never called and getCheckedItemPosition() returns -1. Why? the sample List10.java of ApiDemos uses ListActivity works well which just set the same as I done in my app. Any ideas?

Jan 13, 2010I want to create a custom list view in my application. I want it to lay over the top of the application screen, with portions of the screen not filled by the listview showing the underlying application. I've been reading about ListActivity, how it can be started to handle item selected callbacks. I've also read about people simply inserting onClick handlers into the listview as it is drawn. I'm trying to decide the best way to proceed. Is it "dirty" to attach onClick handlers to the rows of a listview? It doesn't seem like the best approach, for instance, it only handles Touch Mode, not the DPAD clicks. This approach doesn't seem like what the architects had in mind. On the other hand, I don't see a good way that I can start a list activity and still have access to all the application variables I need. Do I pass the application in the context and refer back to it from even handlers after casting the context back to it's original class?

Aug 13, 2009I have some problems when creating a ListActivity.
I have a listview and some other widgets and my listview is filled with a custom adapter.

Now the problem is. I have a scrollview and all the other views and widgets are placed inside of it. As you can see on the image, I don't see all of my 6 comments (that is the list). When i don't place the scrollview the height of the list is perfect (i have set android:layout_height to wrap_content (to my listview and parent LinearLayout). This is perfect but I have other widgets under the list and when the list reaches the bottom of the screen I can't to scroll to view my other widgets..
How can I fix this? I can set the height of the linearlayout manually but the problem is that the height doesnt has to be the same all the time (it loads the commens from my web service).. It has to fit the height of all the comments (like wrap_content normally does..)

Android :: Changing A Divider With SetDivider In A ListActivity Without A Custom ListView?
Oct 29, 2010I can't seem to get a customized divider, using a Drawable I've defined, to work when using a ListActivity and not creating a custom ListView. It almost seems like when the VM creates its own ListView for me, with the ListActivity, it uses a theme with the default divider provided; and if I try to provide one, no dividers appear in the ListView at all.
I know that I can create a custom ListView using XML and define android:divider on that ListView, and this does recognize my custom divider Drawable. But I would prefer to just let the ListActivity create its own ListView, if I can figure out how to get my own divider working on it.

It seems the simplest way to do things like this in Android is to reuse API components (widgets, layouts, etc) and the closest one I can find to this looks to be the ListPreference, which basically does exactly what I want (I can even work with storing the data in SharedPreferences). The problem is that I'm not launching this modal box from a PreferenceActivity, but rather will be launching it from either of two activities: a ListActivity and a MapActivity.

On a button click from the main layout I'd like to load a ListView. I think I understand how to use ListView and seed data into it. I have created a new layout which contains this ListView. I am confused, however, how I switch from a regular Activity to a ListActivity so I get the convenience methods like setListAdapter()? Should I be starting with a ListView, and then drawing the other view on top once the app starts by inflating the layout and using it? If not, how do I create a ListActivity object inside my app, and where should I create that? If you have a sample application or tutorial that shows how to do this, I would appreciate it.

Oct 12, 2010I'm having a problem with my ListView in a ListActivity with a Custom ArrayAdapter.
When the ListActivity becomes hidden (paused, whatever), the data that was present in the ArrayAdpater seems to go away. Rotation works fine, but I am only assigning the array in the ArrayAdapter in the onCreate(), nowhere else. The array is stored in a global static so the array itself should be fine. but the ListView seems to be pitching the array somewhere after the onCreate in the Activity Lifecycle.
I'm thinking the array should be re-assigned on one of the onResume(), onStart() or onRestart(), but I'm looking for a more concrete reason as this happens only rarely and never with my Cursor based Adapters.

Oct 4, 2010I currently have a tab layout with 2 tabs, one tab with a list view and one with the option make strings so I can add them in the list view. Both tabs have their own activity because this made the code much more structured, and I dont have to repeat my self later.
Lets say im in the tab that offer me to create an string, and i press the update list button, how do I update the list view without startActivity()? If i use startActivity(), it starts List.java, and instead of displaying the list in the list view tab, it takes full screen, which defies the purpose of the tab view. In other words, the startActivity() steals the focus from the tab view of the list, and sends it fulscreen.
I want to update the activity in my list view tab, without starting a new activity that goes to fullscreen, and doesnt update the one in the tab.
