How can I start an activity from a servlet? I have an i-Jetty server installed and a servlet that responds to HTTP request. I would like to start an activity from the servlet, does any body have any idea on how to do this?

I am making an app for Android, in my Activity I need to load an array of about 10000 strings. Loading it from database was slow, so I decided to put it directly into one .java file (as a private field). I have about 20 of these classes containing string arrays and my question is, are all the classes loaded into memory after my application is started? If so the Activity in which I need these strings would be loaded quickly, but the application as a whole would have a slow start...
Is there other way, how to very quickly load an 10000 string array from a file?

Why I need these strings? My Android app allows you to find "journeys" in Prague's public transit - you choose departure stop, arrival stop and it finds your journey (have a look here). My app has a suggestions feature - you enter leter "c" as your departure stop and a suggestions ListView appears with stops starting with "c". For these suggestions I need the strings. Fetching the suggestions from database is slow (about 400ms on G1).

View 3 Replies View RelatedFor example, I have an activity that uses a utility class. I would like to be able to start an activity from the utility class and have the activity result sent back to the utility class.
The only way I could think of starting the activity was to pass the original activity to the utility class, so that the utility class could use the original activity to start the activity. The problem with this is that the activity is sent to the original activity, rather than the utility class.
I also thought of actually making the utility class an activity itself, but that would make using the utility class much more complicated.
I am trying to display a dialog box in a simple Java class that is called from my main Activity but not successful. Please help me to figure it out.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI wrote an android app and so far it works perfect except for on one phone. It is the exact phone that I have with 2.2 on both phones and mine works perfect. The other phone is getting force close all the time but only when opening an activity that queries my image DB and tries to show a gallery. Every activity crashes in the same place, the viewimages. At first I thought it was the intent that was doing it but one of the activitys does not have the intent, it opens the images below the gallery. This works on the emulator, on my moto droid and on a few other different droids. Here is the code for the gallery and my bitmap decoder.

I'm just getting into Android development, and I have a question about communicating between a receiver class and an activity class. I'm very new to JAVA and Android so I hope I don't sound too stupid. I'm developing an application where I intercept an SMS message and then based on various elements of that SMS I might delete it once it's been saved to the inbox. I have a receiver class that intercepts the txt message, and I am also able to delete messages from my inbox with code in the activity class using a button at the moment. The problem I have is communicating between the receiver class and the activity class where the code to delete a message resides. I tried putting that code directly into the receiver class but as I'm sure most of you already know the BroadcastReceiver class doesn't seem to support what I need to delete messages. I've been searching for an answer to this for a while, but haven't been able to find anything. Honestly I'm not sure I know enough about JAVA and Android to even recognize a solution if I saw it.

Ive inherited some code which started out as an Android project but really is just an API to be used by other applications. Hence, the 'build' process usually just produces a JAR file. The problem I am having is that I get errors from the Android build tools in my console which seem to fire everytime I make a change to some files.

I have an application with contains multiple activities. The main activity will start the others ( use startActivity() ) depends on user event, when an activity close, it calls finish() and return back to main activity. It appears to behavior like that.
However, the "problem" I see is main activity's onCreate function is called every time. I think the the main activity should be placed in the activity stack and simply push to front when others exit, therefore only onResume, onStart are called. Is there some flag I need to set or I misunderstand the activity behaviro?
In child activity, besides calling finish() or startActivity for main activity, what is other way to move main activity to front?
I created an application which enables the user to set whether he wants to receive notification while the application runs in background mode. If the notifications are enabled an activity should be started (the dialog should appear on the screen).
I tried to enabled it the following way:

This is the method from main activity. When onPause() is executed isRunningInBackground is set true.
When I tried to debug it when the main application was running in the background the line
startActivity(intent) had no effect (the activity didn't appear).
Does anyone know how to midify the logic in order to start an activity from the main activity when the main activity is running in the background (after onPause() is called)?
if the inner UpdateService class is not static, it cannot start the service. The ActivityManager complains "Unable to start service Intent"...

I have created an interface for java.awt.Point and put import java.awt.Point in my code. But when I do Point pos = new Point.
I get an error: cannot instantiate Point. Also if I do pos. I don't get x or y member variables. I could code my own Point class but I need to learn how to import stuff.
If I delete the interface for Point I get an error on import java.awt.Point. It says the import cannot be resolved.
When I try to edit project/res/main.xml using android layout editor in eclipse I get the error "Could not initialize class java.awt.font".
