Android :: Optimize Android App Code Based On Function Call Stack

May 28, 2010

I've been told that Android OS stores all function calls in a stack. This can lead to many problems and cause the 'hiccups' during runtime, even if a program is functionalized properly, correct?

So the question is, how can we prevent this from happening? The obvious solution is to functionalize less, along with other sensible acts such as refraining from excessively/needlessly creating objects, performing static calls to functions that don't access fields, etc...

Is there another way though? Or can this only be done through careful code writing on the programmers' part? Does the JVM/JIT automatically optimize the bytecode during compile time to account for this?

Android :: Tools For Analyzing API Level Compatibility In Android Code

May 13, 2010

I have developed an app for my customer at API level 5 (2.0) and above, and set my minSDKVersion as 5. Now my customer would like to know if it can be made backward compatible with API level 4 (1.6). I have a vague idea which areas might not immediately be compatible without doing some conditional code, but...

Does anyone know if there are any tools that can do a simple analysis of my code and list for me any API calls I have that and their API levels (preferably sorted, though I can do this if I can export the info)?

This seems like a very useful tool if someone has it? (I'm not expecting a full static code analysis, just API levels of all API calls in a project)...

I'm especially interested in graphics related tasks. This obviously depends on both the machine running the emulator, and the specific device in question, but I'm talking rough numbers here. This question is a duplicate, but since that post is heavily outdated, I figured it's irrelevant by now.

(So much to do, I was bored with i Phone 4 ) So far battery life is not that great, drops 10 % every hour or 2 without heavy duty. (is this normal?) But yeah my question is every time I unlock the screen,(so when the screen wakes up) the notification light blinks with blue/red color. Is that normal? I checked Motorola, it wasn't on the manual.

Motorola Droid :: SDK Tools Not Working In CM 5.0.7/7.1?

May 27, 2010

Tried in CM forum and on IRC with no luck, so I'll try here....

Since loading Cyanogen 5.0.7 and now 5.0.7.1, I have been unable to get SDK tools working in order to push apps to my Droid....when I start with the usual "adb shell" I get an error message saying "adb server out of date....killing"...I then get a "device not found" message any time I try to connect again...

I downloaded the newest version of SDK tools thinking that would update the adb server, but that did nothing. I upgraded to the 5.0.7.1 Cyanogenmod ROM, but getting the same message...

USB debugging is connected. my Droid Sd card is not mounted worked fine before upgrading to CM 5.0.7 stable. worked fine on 5.0.7 test 1.

Android :: Ways To Manage Project?

But looking at me adding features, I realize I would be altering the original source, so if someone finds a bug, I need to either wait, or completely undo everything to fix it. What are some options for managing my source code and stuff?
