my app downloads a zip with about 350 files. A mix of JPG and HTML files. The function i wrote to do it works just fine but the unzipping takes for ever. At first i thought the reason might be that writing to the sd-card is slow. but when i unzip the same zip with an other app on my phone it works much faster. is there anything that i could do to optimize it?

I just switched from i Phone 4 to Droid X. Very exciting, since not only I have to learn how to use it but also I need to optimize the phone as well. (So much to do, I was bored with i Phone 4 ) So far battery life is not that great, drops 10 % every hour or 2 without heavy duty. (is this normal?) But yeah my question is every time I unlock the screen,(so when the screen wakes up) the notification light blinks with blue/red color. Is that normal? I checked Motorola, it wasn't on the manual.

In the past, after I flashed a stock .sbf file I would be prompted for the Froyo OTA update. I just did it again last night. I was wondering, can you flash your phone too many times where you start to cause problems? And, does Verizon keep a check on how many times you've downloaded an update? Or, is it just not popping up because FRG22D is out?

I looked through the forums to see if there's an easier way of accomplishing this than rooting my whole phone. Well, i dont have any problems with the apps on my phone because they dont even show up. Does that drain my battery even more? I have a rooted phone and in all my apps that have ads only show some white circle showing that something is loading but no ads show. My battery only lasts 8-12 hours of use. And it sucks.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is another "should I root" question, and I apologize in advance. I know this is basic stuff for some of you guys, but I'm on the fence and there are still some things I don't understand about rooting (I'm not a programmer, and while I've run Linux, I've never written anything for it). So I wasn't planning to root. I have no desire to change my notification bar to black, or overly customize my OS. Plus I don't want to brick my phone. That said, at some point I will run out of RAM, and I'll want to save apps to my sd card. I also realize that within months apps may play to 1gz+ phones, and down the line I might want to OC my droid. Finally, tethering might be nice in the future.
The point is, none of these things are necessary now. However after the 2.1 update will rooting be impossible? From what I've read here root was gained by exploiting something in 2.0.1. When that is fixed is it likely root will be gained again? Or should one root now if they want root in 6 months? Are there non-root workarounds to saving apps to sd cards? What about overclocking (I assume not). And if I do root, do I have to choose bugless beast or some other ROM, or can I just stick with what I have?
Just got the DROID X from Verizon and have the small 150Mb plan. I am looking to stop all unnecessary data usage unless I specifically want to use it. I have removed the news and weather widgets from my home screen and turned off "data enabled" and "background data" in settings/data delivery. I am around wifi all day so I can enable that if I want to download an app.Is there anything else anyone can recommend or will that stop the majority of back and forth data transfer from the phone?

The over-the-air update for the Motorola CLIQ has been delayed to the week of February 22. An updated article will be available once a date has been determined.
On February 18, Motorola will begin sending over-the-air (OTA) software updates to Motorola CLIQ customers. The software update will improve device performance and resolve several known issues.

Decreased Force Close error messages
New Manage SIM Card application
Support of .WMA and .WAV media files
Removal of the imeem mobile application
Known Issues Resolved:
Accessories & Bluetooth
Error: 'Unable to pair' or 'Unable to connect to device'
Call functions
Can activate other functions while listening to visual voicemail
Call not ended by pressing the End key
Speakerphone turns on unexpectedly when answer incoming call
Plays ringtone or vibrates while on an active call
Unable to answer incoming call using �Slide to answer� feature
Accidentally opens Dialer or makes outbound while holding device
Device hardware (battery, keys, power, screen)
Battery indicator may not display accurate battery power
Call not eded by pressing the End key
Touch screen issues
Cannot answer incoming call using the Slide to answer feature

Advise customers that the issue will be resolved by a software update on February 18.
Important Rebate Changes

Astro - I have this on a folder, must this always stay running?
Bluetooth share - when Bluetooth is Off, can this be ended?
Facebook - used when connected with wifi, can this be ended when not connected/wifi or when not using?
Facebook for HTC Sense - used when connected with wifi, can this be ended when not connected/wifi? widget not used
Flickr - not used (maybe when connected with wifi)
FM Radio - not using but app running
Footprints - widget not used, not using but app is running
Friend Stream - not using but app running, widget not used
LED Light - widget used
Peep - not using but app running
Photoshop.com mobile - on a folder, can this be ended when not used?
YouTube - widget used
I'm not using an app to end these, just the Settings/Applications/Manage applications.
I know how difficult and confusing It can be to root your phone, or put a custom ROM. If you need help, I will be more than willing to answer your questions.
View 20 Replies View RelatedI have found that the AD Community ROM acts as if it is a brand new phone, never activated, and runs you through the set up of all your settings - and then proceeds to DL all your apps that you had installed previously.I posted a comment about it at AllDroid - View topic - [Rom] AllDroid Community Beta 0.3 release and got a reply that when someone went back to un-rooted and what not, the OEM ROM did the same thing.So, this led me to believe that there is some particular setting that allows for this to occur, where the ROM being installed is installed in a certain state so as to make the phone think it has never been activated before.This being said, I wondered if other ROMs could be tricked into thinking the same thing - and I hit upon an idea- what if, after installing a new ROM, you go into settings and do the factory reset that is there? Since I don't have anything installed except for this custom ROM and SPRecovery and such, I am not really gonna lose anything by doing this, so why no give it a whirl
