Android :: Optimize Android App Code Based On Function Call Stack
May 28, 2010
I've been told that Android OS stores all function calls in a stack. This can lead to many problems and cause the 'hiccups' during runtime, even if a program is functionalized properly, correct?
So the question is, how can we prevent this from happening? The obvious solution is to functionalize less, along with other sensible acts such as refraining from excessively/needlessly creating objects, performing static calls to functions that don't access fields, etc...
Is there another way though? Or can this only be done through careful code writing on the programmers' part? Does the JVM/JIT automatically optimize the bytecode during compile time to account for this?

Here my application "com.android.hello" calls a core library "libvt.so" through JNI call. There is a segmentation fault in "libvt.so". When executed I get the following log What I see is some Hex value followed by a library name. #00 pc afe0d24c /system/lib/libc.so
Also there is a Stack section 01-01 00:02:57.800: INFO/DEBUG(1600): stack: 01-01 00:02:57.800: INFO/DEBUG(1600):bef2e570 bef2e604 [stack] 01-01 00:02:57.810: INFO/DEBUG(1600):bef2e574 afe0a333 /system/ lib/libc.so
This too gives similar information. I am looking for little more informations rather than Hex values. Like the backtrace feature where the stack hex values is mapped to the function names and function names are visible.
Please provide information how to see the function names in stack rather than Hex values. Is ther any compiler options needs to be updated? Any makefile to be updated to enable backtrace?

I've implemented an onSaveInstanceState function in the main activity of my TabHost-based application. I need to save the state of various objects I am keeping in memory that I have all marked as serializable, as well as some basic int and string values. I have stepped through my application and watched it call the onSaveInstanceState function and presumably save everything without any manner of exception or problem. The issue is that my onCreate function is being called with a null Bundle value every time after I start the application again. I'm really at a loss and unsure why it would call the save but not pass anything into the create.

Had a few days of use without issues, go to make a call yesterday and it takes ages to connect, but instead of connecting I get a beep and then it returns me to my contact list. Tried putting the phone in and out of flight mode by holding down the power button and selecting the flight mode option, the option turns grey after I press it, won't allow me to press it again and seemingly does nothing. Press the off option and turn the phone back on and it's fine. Now I reckon I had suffered this with earlier firmwares.

I am writing an android game that involves some c++. I have a fairly repeatable crash that seems to be due to my c++ code
Looking at the page:
http://source.android.com/porting/debugging_native.html#Debug_Scenarios (right at the end)
it says to run the output through the "stack tool" - which I can find no trace of.. nor aproto.

I have placed an icon on the status bar. I would like to run a method of another class whenever the user selects that icon. I've seen similar functionality used in volume icons that sit on the status bar that allow a user to raise or lower the volume when the icon is clicked. However, these icons are on the right side of the status bar, and from what I've seen, I'm not allowed to put an icon there. I don't know if that kind of functionality is available to left side icons. So basically, I'm looking for how to run a function when a status bar icon is clicked. I don't want to open an activity, I just want to run a function.

say for example I have this code in my activity:
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.main);
Thread cThread = new Thread(new Runner());
cThread.start();
}
private NotifyMe(){
//do something here
}
and this is my Runner class:
public class TCPClient implements Runnable {
public void run(){

I would like to compile a list of Android phones that either
1) Comes with native call recording functionality.
2) Support call recording with 3rd party applications.
It would be great if you can lend a hand.Please note that phone/apps that require using speakerphone to record the calls do *not* count. That's a ugly hack I consider marginally useful.Please don't bring legality discussions here as well.Models that have this function built-in.Samsung Galaxy S (South Korean version SHW-M110S, with firmware DH09 or newer).Models that don't have this function built-in but can use 3rd party app to record calls in both ways without turning on speakerphone.HTC Magic (a.k.a. G2); requires root and custom kernel; with rViox

I used PhoneAlarm to do my call forwarding when I was on the "other" platform. It dialed my call forwarding number based on time of day. I know Locale has the capability but there is no plugin to do it. Does ANYONE have an App or know how I can call forward based on location or time of day or to at least call any number based on this criteria? I do not, or I should say, cannot use Google Voice since I have no account and they are not taking any more users.

I'm a proud owner of a HTC-Hero and I really loves it. Best phone ever.I have managed to find pretty all applications I need but there is one I really missing.When arrive home I am always redirect all incomg calls to my landline and do so by All call forwarding.It happens quite often that I forgets to inactivate this feature when leaving for work and all calls will then be redirected to my home and ofcourse none will answer.I'm looking for an application that identifies my WLAN and then automaticly redirects all calls to my landline and then when signal is lost, remove the redirect. It would also work for me if the application use the radio tower as a reference or via GPS-tracker.

It's possible to specify a particular function to be called when button is clicked by setting its onClick attribute in xml:
android:onClick="function_name"
I want to do something similar for FocusChange of buttons, is this possible?
Specifically, I wish to increase my button's size when it has focus and make it normal sized when not focussed. To apply this to all my buttons, I hoped to call a specific function which does this and then specify this function name in my style.xml. But there is no onFocusChange attribute in android.
It works when I add overriden onSetFocusChangeListener for each of my buttons separately in the code. But is there any other solution?

My point is to be able to call a 2.1 API if it exists, while the application should be able to run in 1.5
Specifically, I am making a GPS application which would like to call android.location.LocationManager.addNmeaListener if available. My problem is that this call takes as parameter an abstract class (GpsStatus.NmeaListener) which I cannot pass directly to Class.GetMethod (or my application won't work in 1.5). What I am currently trying is a) to create a wrapper class for GpsStatus.NmeaListener:......................
