Samsung Vibrant :: Considered Low End By Holiday Season Meaning No Gingerbread 3.0?

Jul 2, 2010

So, just reading around the forums and online sites, I guess Android 3.0 or gingerbread might be out around the holidays.Although the vibrant does meet the minimum requirements, google seems to want 3.0 only to run on superphones. If 1ghz, 4 inch screen, and 512 are min requirements.. This leads me to believe, that by the holidays, this phone will no longer be considered a superphone, there probably will be a 2 ghz. 4.3 inch, 1gb phone out. Why do I bring this up? Well I'm asking because, for those people who do not wish to root, and are depending on t-mobile/samsung updates to 3.0, what if samsung never releases a 3.0 update for the vibrant. This is the only reason I'm thinking about this phone.Just reading various sights, seems like google has made it clear, gingerbread 3.0 will be for superphones, and all other phones will stick to 2.2/2.1. I'm thinking by holiday season, samsung is going to put this phone in the "I'm sorry, you are stuck with 2.1/2.2 cateogry" because they probably will have a superphone out by then.If you can't get 3.0 on this phone via a true update, is it worth it? How can anyone find out, what Samsung has planned?I guess I don't want the behold II issue to happen on this phone.

Android : Way To Schedule Events To Recur Every Other Week On Phone?

Aug 31, 2010

I am currently using the calendar that came on my Captivate. I like that it syncs with Google. The problem I am having is in scheduling repeating events. If I create an event in Google calendar on the desktop, I can schedule it to repeat every other week. I cannot find this choice if I create an event on the android calendar. On my Captivate, I only see weekly, monthly, etc. Is there a way to schedule events to recur every other week on the Android? Maybe I'm just missing it. I learn new things on this phone every day.

Android :: Best Way To Schedule An Event That Will Wake Up Phone / Goes Into Sleep Mode?

Mar 2, 2010

I was investigating the issue of setting up a delayed activity/event, that will occur and trigger even if the phone is in sleep mode (wake up, do what you need to do, go back to sleep). I was thinking of the following methods: 1. sendMessageDelayed 2. Timer 3. AlarmManager. The basic requirement is to be able to set a triger in the future, and be sure that this trigger wakes up the system if it is sleeping, perform the task, and go back to sleep.A partial wakup is required (no screen flickering). Currently i'm using the sendMessageDelayed, and i keep a wake lock held for the timeout period (bad practice).

Samsung Behold 2 :: Upcoming Software Changes

Feb 15, 2010

Take this for what it's worth since you're hearing it from me, and not an official link. I understand I could be completely making this up, but I only come here to hopefully give you, my fellow BH2 owners out there something to look forward to. While in TMobile today, I was chatting with the manager who helped me decide on the BH2. It just so happened that his Samsung rep had just left and gave him some good news.

Originally, I thought he had told me the BH2 would be going from 1.5 to 2.x, however, the BH2 has two upcoming changes.

First, we will be getting a minor change to fix the battery issues. The battery indicator will be more accurate, and they will be adjusting some software issues to increase the battery life. Great news. This should be very soon since the reps recently got the email.

Second, and no later than two months away, we will be getting 1.6. Not 2.0 or 2.1. 1.6 is apparently the most stable Android software out there at the moment, which is why 2.1 is still a ways out. Don't expect to ever see 2.0 on your BH2 because 2.0 is terrible software and Tmobile has no intentions of pushing that on their phones. 2.1 will most likely come after 1.6.

This is according to a Samsung rep who received an email from his superiors. Take it for what it's worth, but I am looking forward to the BH2 future. Now BH2 owners will have the best Android phone with stable software. Can't wait!

Will I have to wait for a custom ROM to be made or will i be able to update as normal?

General :: Can Reject Upcoming JB Upgrade In Order To Keep FoxFi

On FoxFi's (now PDANet) site it states that Android version 4.1 and later is NOT SUPPORTED on Motorola. Their recommendation is "Do not update to Jelly Bean." I understand that this update is going to be pushed to us sometime soon. In the past, my updates have installed automatically without any approval required. I cannot find a setting anywhere to make it stop and ask first. Is there such a setting? Is there a way I can refuse to accept the Jelly Bean upgrade?

Android :: Battery - Wifi 3g Gps Schedule?

Sep 20, 2010

Is there any app's out there that you can put your wifi 3g gps etc on a schedule. Mainly to turn off like 12:00 AM to save battery, and turn back on at whatever time you set? I know there are some that will turn your wifi and 3g (user set) off if your battery gets below a certain point (user set) but these are like $3.00. To me it seems like a rip off, since its such a simple app... Anyways does anyone know of an app like this, if not would anyone be interested in developing it? Seems simple for someone who knows how to create app's. The reason I think this would be better than the battery manager's that just shut your data wifi and gps off after your battery hits a certain % is because sometimes your battery will be just charged but you will go to sleep at night leaving your wifi/3g on and your battery will drain until it hits whatever %, then the manager will turn your data off. Meanwhile you just lost a whole lot of battery that you didnt need to.
