Android :: Wallet App That Uses Phone's Camera To Scan Cards For Backup?
Sep 1, 2010
Is anyone aware of a wallet app that uses the phone's camera to scan cards for backup? i don't really relish the idea of manually entering all my card nos. and info when the camera scanner function works so well recognizing business cards.
you know, I'd like to slap my credit card on the table, open the app and scan the card. the app should recognize the cc logo (mc, visa, discover, etc), card no., exp. date and prompt me for the verification no. on the back.
the app should be able to recognize most of the card types that people typically keep in the wallets: drivers license, library card, health ins, auto ins., loyalty cards. for those that it doesn't recognize by scan, the user should be able to select from a list or enter a "custom" type.
i haven't found anything like this. does one exist?

This application allows you to scan a Sudoku puzzle with the camera and then solve the puzzle instantly. Free download on Android Market. Major update coming soon with game play. Version 1.2.2 just released. This aims to resolve a problem with the camera preview on the Nexus One and Droid. Screenshots at Sudoku Capture.

What is the best "Wallet", "Password Protector" type program out there for the Android OS? I would prefer one that has a desktop application as well. I was reading the forums on "Splash ID" but it is getting ripped because it cannot tether to phone, you have to use WIFI to sync it with desktop application. I sent them an email and asked if they were looking into a tethering solution and they have yet to replay and it has been a while!
Any thoughts, a good "wallet" application anyone?

Is it possible to develop an application which can have a read access to all the files of the phone. We plan to develop an antivirus application. I know that APK applications have for example a limited access to the /data directory.

I released an app on the Android market that I've since had to take down because approximately half of the comments were people complaining of damaged SD cards. I've gone over the code a few times and can't find anything that could damage an SD card. All that happens that involves external storage is the saving of streams as images, which then get read into ImageView's.

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this. Have a droid. But am traveling to europe lots. Would like to have a phone that I can just put a pre paid Sim card in. Must be a GSM quad band phone, and I need to have it unlocked to take a pre paid sim card. Am only used to VZW as that is what I have had. Would the google phone do this, or can I unlock a TMO phone. If so, how do I do this. Also, would it be able to get data as well as voice if I purchased a sim with those capabilities.

I wrote an android application to request a scan for available WiFi signals around, using the WifiManager, then dump the results to a file. The program works fine, but this weird bug occurs. Initially I was requesting a scan every 30 seconds, and everything worked fine. I then tried to request a scan every two seconds, I get this strange bug. Everything will work fine for a few minutes, then the time between two scan requests jumps from 2 seconds to 50 seconds for no reason.
Then, for four more scans, it will scan at 2-second intervals, then skip to a 50-second interval, and it continues to do this consistently. With larger time intervals this bug does not appear. Has anyone experienced this bug before? Is there a way to prevent it? Or does Android automatically cancel scan requests if they are too frequent?

First post. so here goes.
I've searched around the forum and couldn't find anything.
So heres the issue. I've been dying to get myself an android phone for a while now, but no carriers in my country (Ireland) have any affordable ones. So I've been shopping around online. I've found a faulty one on ebay. Its fine except it keeps saying "No Sim Card"
So I was wondering, has anyone had this issue before? And is it something I could repair, or should I keep looking?

We created a free app - VIN Barcode Scanner. I would like to know your opinion and your feedback. We are interested in a collaboration. We could offer integration to developers who has an app for search of information by VIN in Autocheck and other bases. Users would love that.
With application it is possible to scan VIN code quickly using your phone or tablet cam and then send a recieved code via sms or email. In case of integration, it is possible to search for information on the resources mentioned above. I think it is very convenient.
We are happy to offer you the following: SDK which will allow you to add VIN codes scanning into your app very easily. Many developers are using our SDK. Our SDK has a demo-mode so you can try it for free.URL....

I have been a Windows mobile user for over 10 years, and am slowly converting over to Android.I say slowly because what I'm doing right now is running a version of Android on my HTC Touch Pro2, off the storage card.I intend on switching over to a full-blown device soon, but right now, this method is allowing me to explore the OS and learn about Android before switching over. One of my biggest concerns is the transition from apps that I have used for years, and rely on every day.For example, I've seen several wallet apps in the Android Market, but I've not found one yet that appears to have a version for the device as well as the PC Desktop.I use Spb Wallet daily, and have hundreds of things stored in there. Half of the time, I'm using it via my device, and the other half of the time, I am using it while sitting at my PC at home. Are there some apps available that offer Desktop-to-device synchronization?

Looking for a program that will allow me to store information about my bank accounts, credit cards, software registration numbers. Needs to be password protected. I was using eWallet by illium software with my Windows Mobile Smartphone and would like something like that. Have downloaded the demo version of Wallet Pro from Market and it seems to be something that might work. Anyone out there in Android Land know of anything else that might do the trick?

I'm running rubix focused .5 and its been great, I installed the camera-search-voice fix and didnt have any problems along with having full camera functionality. Eventually I decided to try the Incognito theme since it had a "blurless" version. I noticed it changed my camera icon obviously but I didnt actually open it. I decided I didnt like it, so I restored my nandroid I made immediately before putting the theme on. Next thing I notice, my camera shortcuts are the generic green apk icon. And they dont work, at all.
I nandroid restore to an even earlier back-up (from right after applying rubix) and still no camera functionality. It doesnt appear in my apps under manage applications, the blurcamera.apk is in the system folder, and I tried deleting/replacing that again, and installing it right from the apk and I get an install failed. I don't understand how I could lose my camera app when I restore to a back-up that had it working fine.

Is there a different way to automatically purchase apps from the Market than using Google Wallet? I have had a "problem" with Google Wallet using inactive credit/debit cards for payment and if it does not get resolved I may have to close my Google Wallet account to solve the issue.

I may be purchasing a Droid soon. One thing that worries me a little is the GPS/Dock function that "activates" when you dock it in the media or car dock. From what I understand this triggers due to magnets that the Droid senses.
I use a leather money clip that holds like 10 cards then has a clip with a magnet in it to hold bills. (See picture).
My concern is that if I keep the Dtoid in my right pocket with my wallet it's going to activate and start draining the battery like crazy. As the phone would be too big to fit in the small "change" pocket on jeans that I used to use for my LG Voyager and previous phones it has me a little worried how I'm going to tote it around. I may buy one of those glasses cleaning clothes and wrap it in that, but the magnetic portion could still be an issue.

I know that the stuff regarding the secure element inside certain phones is kept on a strictly need-to-know basis and Google only lets certain people have access, but how about the apps that are running on the phone, such as Google Wallet?
What I mean is, is it possible to write an App that communicates with something like Google Wallet (not necessarily this app specifically) instead of an NFC device? At its simplest, when you pass your phone over a credit card terminal, it communicates via the NFC chip to the wallet application. What I'm looking to do is bypass that terminal and just communicate directly with the app via another app, sending the necessary commands directly. Is this possible? (If so, I'm not looking for a how-to, just if it's doable or not).
I know it might be complicated and there's a lot to learn, APDU commands and all that - that's fine.
