Android :: Vlingo - Cannot Minimize Keyboard?

Aug 23, 2010

Installed Vlingo and am absolutely loving it so far. One thing that is a minor annoyance though is that I'm not finding a way to minimize the keyobard at all. On the default keyboard for the HTC Hero there is a button that minimizes the keyboard. Is this not an option at all with the Vlingo keyboard or am I just missing it?

HTC Desire :: Froyo With SenseUI / How To Minimize Keyboard?

Jul 13, 2010

I've flashed with the new froyo ROM with senseUI and am finding it brill. One quirk though is that when typing out a text message, there's no key in the bottom left to minimize/esc from the keyboard. If I use the Back key it exits the app (chomp). It's still beta!)

HTC Droid Eris :: Minimize Keyboard Button In Landscape Mode?

May 26, 2010

So the "minimize keyboard" button in the lower left of the landscape qwerty keyboard works maybe every 5th time. I only started noticing this after the 2.1 OTA. However my wife has the 2.1 on her Eris as well and hers works perfectly. If I make sure to push the very top edge of the button, it works fine, but just pressing it normally in the middle rarely works. Perhaps there is something wrong with that corner if the screen.

Android :: Is There Vlingo-like App?

Android :: Vlingo In Car Beta

Nov 16, 2010

First of all, I swear I did a search, but I can't come up with an answer. I am using the Vlingo in car beta, and it actually listens to me most of the time. The only thing I can't do is get it to answer a call. I thought you could say "answer" and the call would pick up. Am I wrong? Is it because I'm still running 2.1 (Tmo Vibrant)? Does this work in 2.2? Any tips you have would be appreciated.

Android :: How Can I Minimize Stuttering Of Graphics?

Dec 31, 2009

How can I minimize the stuttering of my graphics?I am using MANY ImageView's in my program (and JUST ImageView's). I change their positions directly, when I need to change them without using "onDraw" to redraw everything. Is it ok, If I do not overwrite onDraw? I have in average 10 objects which I added to the mainscreen-layout.These 10 objects are 5 trees and 5 flowers. The trees and flowers have 5 different states and therefore 5 different ImageViews which I all added to the layout, whose just are invisible. So I have about 50 ImageViews added to my main screen When one of these objects changes its state, I just make its ImageView invisible and the ImageView of the new state visible. Is it ok to do it like that?I realized that if I just use one ImageView for every object and change the ressource of it when its state changes, all objects, which are currently added to the mainscreen-layout, change their position to (0;0). That was the reason, I have so many ImageView's added to the mainscreen-layout.Is there a better solution for that?

Android :: Vlingo Vs Google Voice Search - Actions

Aug 13, 2010

Whats everyones take on both these applications? I've just started using the new google voice actions and think its amazing, and actually interprets my speech quite well! Voice actions I think provide a bit more robust actions over vlingo, as they can be used to get directions, navigate you somewhere, call certain businesses etc.

I do like the idea of Vlingo's, text to speech, reading who's calling you or a new email or message. I use handcent and that has text to speech although its extremely quiet even if i turn it up completely. I also can't understand it most of the time as it speaks too fast in its funny computer voice!

Another plus, Vlingo is now FREE! I haven't downloaded it yet as I'm just enjoying Googles new voice actions, but I would be interested in a comparison with accuracy and speed in both these applications!

Android :: Vlingo Superior To New Gooogle Voice Search

Aug 25, 2010

I've loaded both Vlingo and the new Google Voice search on my Droid X with the leaked Froyo OS and Vlingo is significantly superior. Vlingo typically nails the request the first time while Voice Search isn't even close most of the times. Voice search is particularly weak with my contacts which are saved Last, First. While it may behave decently searching for "Jones Bob" it fails dismally when searching for "Bob Jones". Vlingo executes flawlessly with either.

Android : Minimize Battery Drain In A Heavy Service

Jan 5, 2010

I will create a service to do something when some hot situation occurs.

By hot situation I mean:

the GPS/cell coordinates are in known zone;
known Bluetooth device detected;
known Wi-Fi network detected;
weather info has change;
considerable movement speed change detected: eg. from walking to travel by car.

As you see these tasks are heavy, and will be run frequently. 15 mins, but sometimes even more, when I have to detect the movement speed of the device.

The question I have, will this drain the battery heavily?

If so, what recommendations do you have to minimize battery drain with the above tasks?

Android :: Weird VLINGO Bug - Resetting Phone (Incredible + Bluetooth)

I was wondering if this was happening to anyone else consistently.

Turn on Vlingo In-Car.
Turn on Bluetooth headset and pair it w/ your phone.
Make a phone call and then hang up.
TURN OFF YOUR BLUETOOTH HEADSET.

WHen I do that, my phone RESETS. I think it's only w/ Vlingo in car on, regular bluetooth doesn't do that. (ALTHOUGH, my phone resets if I use gps, charge, use bluetooth, and talk at the same time....) Let me know if it's only an Incredible thing, or HTC thing, or all android thing...

General :: How To Install Vlingo App On ICS

Feb 28, 2014

I have a rooted HTC that is running ICS flawlessly. But I really need Vlingo or something as good so I can use voice commands and a car dash setting so I can access my music from Google Music Player in the car (from the my library cloud)

But unbelievably, Vlingo does not show up in the market for ICS? Or is this just HTC? How stupid is it that the millions of people who can't have Google Now on ICS ALSO can't have VLINGO that came out over 3 years ago?

Is there an .apk file for rooted phones to install Vlingo without the market? I know Google Now is completely killed for ICS and no one is trying to make that work anymore.

Or, if I can't get Vlingo, is there a voice activated app like Vlingo for a dash type application to play my music?

Did Google pay off Vlingo to not allow it on ICS so that we have no choice but to buy Jelly Bean phones? (since there is no equal in voice command to Google Now and Vllingo)

I'm getting sick of how Google sold us out. You can have Google Now on the freaking iphone, but not ICS?

who can tell me how to force install Vlingo on ICS?

General :: How To Minimize Data Over WiFi Hotspot

What I'd like to be able to do is:

if I'm connected to a specific wifi AP (my prepaid hotspot),

1) turn off autoupdates from the Google Play app

2) turn off data for all apps except the foreground app

3) or let me decided which apps I want to allow to transfer data when connecting via that hotspot

This is to minimize costs associated with using that prepaid hotspot, but the same concept could apply for people who have limited data bandwidth per month.I'm using Android 4.1 on a Samsung S3 if it matters.

General :: How To Minimize / Hide Incoming Calls

Jan 26, 2012

Often I'll be busy browsing or writing a message or whatever and I'll be interrupted by the full-screen incoming call display.

I'm looking for something that automatically puts incoming calls in the background, ideally just in the notification bar or something without interrupting the current app.

It's particularly annoying when I'm writing a message in Opera for example and an incoming call wipes the message because Opera doesn't have a proper restore state.

I don't want to block calls all together, just make them less intrusive.

I found a program called backgrounder, but it didn't seem to work, and from the youtube video I saw of it, a full screen still appears to pop up on an incoming call.

Motorola Droid :: Minimize Brightness Button That Dims Screen Further?

So I'm using NexBeast v1.1 on my Droid and noticed in the clock app there is a brightness button that dims the screen even further (similar to the bedside app I'm guessing). Unfortunately the screen dimness only lasts while in that app. I was wondering: is there a way to set the overall phone brightness itself that low or keep the screen that dim outside of the app? The lowest brightness in the Droid settings is still a bit too bright for me.

Motorola Droid X :: APP - ROOT - Keyboard - Keyboard Manager - Dual Keyboard - Portrait - Landscape Switch

Nov 10, 2010

I tried it and it works so far.

Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.

From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers

Verbage:

Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.

Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.

To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer

The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'

Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion

Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.

The app is still in development.

Android :: How To Develop A Soft Keyboard - HTTP Connections To Synchronize Keyboard Data With A Cloud DB And Other Phones

I would like to play around with some ideas and develop a soft keyboard for Android to replace the default one.

Is there any general information about soft keyboard development for Android out there?

Any best practices or guidelines?

Can I do with my keyboard application pretty much anything I could do with a normal Android application?
Can I do HTTP connections to synchronize keyboard data with a cloud DB and other phones I have?
Can I open other windows/screens from a key press, e.g. to display a custom input interface different to a normal QWERTY one. If that doesn't work, can I use a pop-up dialog instead?
